She peeks up at me nervously from the curtain of her hair. “Even if I’m pregnant?”
My heart surges with shock and excitement. “Holy shit, baby! Are you serious?”
“I am. I took eight tests this morning. I’m just as surprised as you are.”
I push her onto her back and kiss her softly and deeply, gently laying my hand on her stomach, already in love with the third little life in there.
“Thank you,” I whisper against her lips. “That’s the best early anniversary present you could have given me.”
Before she passed away, Gram told me my unborn child would come back to me someday, and I would know immediately.
