Chapter Eight
Alexa
I made sure Daniel was asleep before I slipped out of the bed and went to get my cell phone. Padding softly across the room to the open door I paused when Daniel moaned in his sleep, before shifting and rolling over.
I grabbed my phone off the bar and turned it on. I looked at the two messages. Sheila like I thought. I opened the texts from her.
Taking the shot Sheila was still awake, I called instead of replying to her text. I needed to talk to the other woman right now and I hoped she picked up.
“Hello?” Sheila answered, giggling.
“Sheila, I need advice. The plan isn’t working. Daniel is way too worried about how having a fling with me would affect his dealings with John.” I whispered into the phone.
“Alexa! Do you want this man? What’s honestly stopping you from jumping him? You’re not afraid, are you?” Sheila interrogated me.
“Fuck, Sheila, no, I’m not afraid of him or what this could end up being. Nothing but Daniel is keeping me from him. I want him, oh and believe me he wants me, but he’s afraid of what will happen to his business relationship with John. He doesn’t want John to hate him because he made me cry.”
“Then why are you on the phone with me instead of jumping him?”
“Because he’s asleep and I don’t want to wake him up honestly.”
“Alexa! Woman up and jump his ass. You will thank yourself for it in the morning and he may thank you for it too! I know your brother loves it when I jump him instead of him having to jump me. Now quit wasting time and go get him.” Sheila told me, laughing.
“But Sheila…”
“Dammit Alexa, this is your brother telling you if you want him then go get him. Jump him. Tell him I said it changes nothing if he has sex with you. Business is business and personal is personal. And if you would please excuse me, I have some personal business to attend to.” And John hung up on me.
I put the phone down and walked back into the bedroom. I looked at Daniel on his side of the bed.
I shook him gently as I sat down beside him. Groggily, he opened his eyes and looked at me, reaching out to me in his half-awake state, before pulling his arm back as though a snake had bitten him.
“Alexa, is everything okay?” He sat up and turned to face me in bed. I sighed as I looked at him. How was I going to do this? Well, I’d already kissed him twice. What was stopping really me from jumping him? Nothing. I understood his thought about my being untouchable because of John and their business. I could respect that, but when my brother had given me his blessing — even if it was just to get me off the phone — I had no reason not to take it. I took a deep breath and looked at Daniel.
“Alexa, seriously, whatever it is you can tell me. I want nothing but honesty between us.” He took one of my hands and absentmindedly rubbed the back of it with his thumb.
I sighed again and looked at Daniel. Then, I told him everything that was really bothering me about us.
“This.” I waved my hand around. “This whole damn thing. I get why you want to keep me at arm’s length, but what if you didn’t have to worry about losing the deal with my brother? Would you be keeping me so far away or would you jump me? We both know we want each other. I think it’s obvious after earlier.
“I called Sheila for advice and John gave me his okay, Daniel. He said to tell you personal and business is different. And dammit, Daniel, I am his employee, not yours. John knows I’m a big girl and can make my own decisions. He said if I wanted a fling to take it. I have never wanted a man this way before. Hell, I’ve only been with one man before, but I want you. I want to be with you. I want to feel your body on me, in me, around me and in whatever way we can be together. Even if it is only for a few days. We can make this work if we really want it.”
He stared at me. Was this what he had been dreaming about? Us? Could he believe John had really told me to go for it and he wouldn’t step in? I knew he could always just roll over and go back to sleep, but I also knew that he wanted me as bad as I wanted him. I watched and waited to see what he would decide.
“Alexa, I don’t know. We hardly know each other, we just met today.”
“Says the man who felt me up and pushed his cock against me multiple times today! You’re losing this argument and any reason to not sleep with me.” I cut him off exasperated. He knew how much I wanted him. Why was he making this so damn difficult? If he was going to keep objecting I was going to have to change his mind.
I was done talking so, I grabbed his head and brought his mouth down on mine. He wrapped his arms around me, laid me back, and took control of the kiss. I had caught him off guard. I could feel his resolve giving away as he deepened the kiss, running his hands over me. Breaking away from the kiss, he looked down at me.
“This isn’t smart Alexa. Can’t you see I don’t want to use you as a rebound?” He moaned against me, our lips barely separated. I placed mine back against his. I knew I had won. There was no conviction in his voice when he spoke to me. There was nothing but want and need in his voice. Breaking away, I looked at him.
“I. Don’t. Care.” I ground, kissing him again.
“I don’t have any protection,” Daniel pushed back, he laid his last chip on the table.
“I’m on the pill.” I had been since Sean had made me lose the baby. I honestly hadn’t needed to keep taking them. It had been fourteen months. I’d only needed to take them for four months. I’d kept taking them just in case I met someone. Now I was glad I’d stayed on the pill. Because I’d met Daniel, and it took away the only excuse left.
He pulled back to look at me. “Please Alexa, this is your last chance to change your mind and tell me to go back to sleep. I won’t be able to stop once I start.” He begged as he looked at me. I giggled as I looked at him.
“No,” I kissed him again, bringing him back down with me as I lowered myself back onto the bed. I took his hand and placed it back on the breast he had been teasing and groaned as he deepened our kiss, moving his hand to the hem of my nightgown and pulled it up so he could caress my bare breast. I moaned into his mouth, arching, bringing my breast more firmly into his hand.
