“How is Andre and… the other one?” Isabella asked as she pulled the straps of her red dress over her creamy, slender shoulders.
“Brian. You know his name,” I said, feeling a bit defensive. She could be extremely testy when she wanted to be.
She looked at me over her shoulder and giggled. “Yes, him.”
“It hasn’t been easy, as you know. Both he and Andre had to reveal themselves. It’s still chaos out there, even my business has taken a hit,” I said as I buttoned my white shirt.
“Ugh, the public sector, such a common thing. I’d rather not have to be bothered with humans in such proximity,” she said, then she walked over to me, turning to reveal her exposed back. “Zip me up, please.” I smirked and obliged. “Thank you.” She smiled, and it was a smile that had lit my fire for over three hundred years.
“He has his calling,” I said, then reached over, picking my suit jacket up from the chair I’d tossed it on during the heat of passion. My hair was still damp from the shower, as was Isabella’s, there was only so much toweling one could do. Hotels served their purpose.
“You really do wear those well,” Isabella purred as she watched me adjust my jacket. “You know, that pesky ban our king has on you and your mates never applied to me. Which means you can visit me more than once a month.”
I chuckled. “Between tracking down Katashniel and his demons and satisfying my own mates, I’m plenty busy, my darling.”
“Yes, yes, I’m sure you are,” she said with a dismissive gesture. “At least they both know their places.”
I nodded. “After moving Andre in, things have been better.” Every once in a while, Andre would challenge me when it came to giving himself to me, but he always submitted. Soon, I was certain he would finally succumb to his desires to be dominated. It was obvious he enjoyed it when I fucked him. We had been living together for nearly three months, three hectic months, and finding solace in each other’s arms and pleasure was keeping us close.
“What are you doing when you leave me?” Isabella asked.
“I’m going to be hunting demons that don’t belong here. You?”
“The same.” She strapped on both red, six-inch heels.
“In those?” I asked, gesturing to her uncomfortable but fashionable footwear.
“Oh, darling… I love putting these up a demon’s ass.” She leaned back in the chair and lifted one of her long, curvaceous legs to prove her point.
“And Nasini and Ade?” I asked.
She sighed. “Nasini is busy tending to King Adriel’s needs. Ade has been searching for any information about Mahmet. As you know, they are far more powerful than I am.” She rolled her eyes. “I’ve been relegated to clearing out the trash and hopefully finding a trail that may lead to one of his knights or that traitorous Lord. When and if I find one, I’m to alert one of them.”
I frowned. “Surprising. I’m sure that doesn’t settle well with you.”
“It doesn’t. I can hold my own.”
“Oh, no doubt. So, why did Nasini put the hammer down?” I knew it had to be Nasini’s decision to partially bench Isabella.
She sighed. “She wants to protect me, why else? Never has anything like this happened before. The demons we face now are powerful and not loyal to Adriel. So, you should be careful with your own mates. Both are less than a year old, you will need to protect them.”
It was true. I’d been training both Brian and Andre harder since the Rising. That was what everyone was calling the incident that happened three months ago. I knew they would be out there fighting, and I wanted to make sure they could hold their own. I also realized that although Isabella didn’t agree with Nasini’s decision, she respected it. I had no intentions of benching Andre or Brian, but I would keep a close eye on them. I checked in on both often, which annoyed Andre more so than Brian, but I didn’t give a shit. They were my responsibility, and I never half-assed on taking care of my responsibilities.
I looked at my watch, it was after midnight and I knew Brian would either be at home or out on the streets. Andre had already called to tell me he was working late on a case. He was struggling to keep things as normal as he could. Apparently, the people in his office avoided him as much as they could and he wasn’t trusted in court. Therefore, he sent the new Assistant DA in his place. One of the few humans who wasn’t afraid of him. Mainly, because he’d been saved by Andre when one of Katashniel’s demons tried to kill him and his wife. Had Andre stayed in the private sector as a defense attorney, he wouldn’t have had to come out as a demon. But it was just his luck that he had switched tables in the courtroom and now wasn’t even allowed at them. I knew it pissed him off, but he was dealing with it as best as he could. I found that honorable.
As for Brian, he had his sister, Natalie, and Andre had Sheila, as she was his sister. Other officers feared Brian, they didn’t trust him, but I knew that would all change soon. I thought that Adriel was making moves to put more demons loyal to him to work alongside human law enforcement on federal, state, and local levels like it was in the Society. It was one of the reasons why he wanted some of us to come out. Either that, or he was going to make the Society the only police force out there. Honestly, I wasn’t sure. I was a member of the Society and had a human partner. Not my choice, but I followed my orders. I’d much rather things were the way they used to be. But life would never be the same after what had happened. I had to go with the flow.
I looked at Isabella and she was staring out the window. I was sure it was nothing but unrest down there. I could hear the sirens all over the city. I walked up behind her and kissed her shoulder. “Until next month, darling?” I asked, already knowing the answer.
She nodded and reached back, stroking my jaw. “Be careful.”
“I will.” I left it at that and teleported home just to see if Brian was there. As soon as I entered, I could sense his presence and I followed it to the bedroom. “Nice… very nice,” I said with a wide smile as I watched him stroking his cock while he fingered his hole. “You want me to contact Andre?” I asked.

“A little. Just preparing Philip for the court case next week.”
“Brian is quite horny tonight.”

“What’s new?” Andre joked.

“Give me a minute.” Andre ended the call. I tossed my cell on the chair and continued to get undressed.
