Flint
A few days later, the six of us were in Keegan’s nursery. We all stood around his crib as he slept. His little body tightly swaddled in a sleep sack.
I sighed. “I miss being pregnant.” I giggled. “That's four words I never thought I would string together.”
Leo put his arm around me and pulled me against his side. “Maybe let's get this one sleeping through the night before we think about another one, okay?”
“Okay,” I said, though I knew we wouldn’t be waiting long. I wanted a house full, and the estate had a lot of rooms we could fill.
“I’m glad that I'm on the complete opposite side of the house,” Broderick said. “How often was he up last night?”
“Every two hours,” Leo said.
“Damn,” Armant said. “Is that normal?”
I glared at him. “Yes,” I said. “It's perfectly normal. He's absolutely perfect and normal.” I stared down at my sleeping son. He looked so much like his father.
“Well, yeah, except for in a few years, he’ll transform into a dragon.” Gale laughed.
Keegan started to stir and we all held our breath, hoping he would remain asleep, since he obviously needed it.
“Let's leave him alone,” I whispered.
I grabbed the baby monitor and we all went to the kitchen.
“I spoke with Valerie,” Armant said. “She has no idea who the mystery man could be.”
“Damn,” Gale said. “I was kind of hoping she'd have a lead on that. I've started a list of who could be helping. And we might want to think about reaching out to the other sirens. Molpe made it sound like she wasn't working with them.”
“Or that's just what she wanted us to think,” Leo said.
“True. Either way we'll have to keep an eye on things. Merek, do you think you can up the security system around here?”
He nodded. “I’ve already been thinking about that and thinking about what we can do around the property as well.” He looked at me and Leo. “Eventually, if the two of you move out of here for any length of time, we'll set up a system at your home as well.”
I nodded. “It'll be a while,” I said. “After being kidnapped I might have a different outlook on what I want. Until Molpe is taken care of, I’m not going to risk having Keegan being anywhere but here.”
Leo pulled me on to his lap and kissed my temple. “It wasn't your fault,” he said.
“I know that,” I said.
“We'll have to have some more security measures in place for when the rest of us find our mates,” Broderick said.
I raised an eyebrow. “Oh, so you're planning for when you find your mate, hmm?”
“God, no,” he said. “The rest of you can find yours. The minute I see mine, I'm running the other way.”
I laughed. “Good luck with that.”
“I can't wait to meet mine,” Gale said.
“Yeah?” I said.
“It's pretty amazing.” Leo wrapped his arms around me and squeezed.
I kissed his cheek. I couldn’t agree more.
