Chapter Twelve
Hollis
Sheriff Tyler came the next morning to take another report and look at the photographs I’d taken. As I’d expected, he didn’t do anything.
“I’d really appreciate if you’d stop calling dispatch about this stuff, Hollis. We’re stretched pretty thin as it is,” Bran said.
“I’m sorry, I thought your job was to investigate crimes,” I said with a touch more snark than I’d intended.
That was when I noticed that Bran was no longer looking at me. He’d turned his body halfway so that he could watch Eddie. I recognized the leering look on his face, and I felt my blood boil when Bran mindlessly adjusted his cock.
“Do you mind not,” I said and took a step between him and Eddie.
“Aw, what’s the matter, Hollis? Everybody in town knows you’ve had the Omega bareback. Why don’t you give someone else a turn? You can’t share?”
My vision began to turn red and I had to take a few deep breaths to calm my thundering heart. A look of panic washed over Eddie’s face and he stepped between me and Bran.
“Stop,” Eddie said. “Hollis, it’s not worth it.”
I watched in horror as Bran spun Eddie around and pulled him close. I saw red, and there was nothing I could do to stop the rage that boiled to the surface. He’d put his hands on my Omega, and I had to get Eddie away from him. I gritted my teeth together and a low growl escaped my lips as I saw Bran’s hips move. He was grinding his erection against Eddie’s stomach.
My hand shot out and I pulled Eddie away from Bran as gently as I could in my current state. My other hand came forward and my fist connected with Bran’s nose. I heard the sickening crack and Bran let out a whimper.
“Hollis, no,” I heard Eddie cry out.
Even as blood ran down Bran’s face, he started to laugh. “Thank you,” he said.
The only thing that kept me from ripping him apart was that the shit stain coward pulled his gun. I couldn’t let Eddie see me get shot.
A minute later, I was in handcuffs. Bran was still laughing. There were tears streaming down his face, but I wasn’t sure if it was because he was laughing so hard or because of his nose.
“Take care of Jada,” I said as Bran shoved me into the back of his car. I wanted to tell Eddie that I loved him, but I figured that would have been a horrible time to say it the first time.
I was glad that Jada was up at the house. I’m sure she would have gotten herself shot trying to protect me, and then I really would have had to murder Bran.
The good sheriff made a call to a couple of his buddies, and the cowards met us on a back road to take turns beating me while I was still handcuffed.
I was in pretty bad shape when I finally got tossed into a cell. I’d played right into Bran’s hands. I couldn’t even sue them for beating me because he could just show his nose as evidence that I’d attacked him.
All I’d wanted was to defend Eddie, but I’d let my temper get the better of me. I’d left Eddie alone with no one to protect him.
