“By the time the cheque bounces, I’ll be out of here with Yvette,” he said as if talking an idiot. “Child’s play.”

“You’re sure she’s alive, then?”

He already had his hand on the door. I put my hand on top of his. “One last thing,” I said. “Whatever we find, whatever happens, you let me take the lead. Deal?”

He nodded. “I’m not going to mess with someone whose thighs can grip that tightly. You’re in charge.”

“Good,” I said, moving my hand away. “Now let’s go.”
