Hidden Dreams: River Town, Book 3 by Grant C. Holland (18)

Forever

Ross thought that he should consider moving in with Puck. It would save them both a lot of money on monthly rent. They followed a weekly pattern. On weekdays, Ross spent the night at Puck’s house, and on the weekend, Puck and Addie bundled up to spend Friday and Saturday night at Ross’s apartment. They bought a second crib and set it up in Ross’s bedroom. Sunday was the one night of the week they slept separately.

Lying in bed on a Tuesday morning trying to stop himself from hitting the alarm clock’s snooze button, Puck rolled over and asked, “Are you awake.”

Ross moaned. “No, you’re dreaming.”

“Good try. Open your eyes for a sec.”

Ross opened one eye and asked, “Is this good enough?”

“Sure. Remember when I said I had a stupid question that weekend in Minneapolis?”

“Puck, it’s way too early in the morning for this.” Ross rolled over and pulled his pillow over his head.

Puck reached out and tugged on his shoulder. “It’s almost time for us to get up, and I’ll be quick about it.”

Ross lifted one corner of the pillow so that his one open eye was visible. “You’re not going to let me sleep, are you?”

Puck shook his head no.

“Damn.” Ross pulled the pillow back. “So yeah, I remember the stupid question. You’re not still wondering if you’re good in bed, are you? If you are, I can fuck you hard and let you figure it out for yourself.”

“No, no, it’s not that. This is probably a stupid question, too, but are you happy?”

Ross said, “Yeah, that is a stupid question.” He closed the eye and pulled the pillow back over his head.

Puck pushed up behind him. “You didn’t answer.”

Ross rolled over onto his back and opened both eyes. “Yes.”

“Yes, what?”

“That’s the answer to your question.”

Puck stared into Ross’s deep blue eyes. “Are you sure? I want you to be happy. I don’t want you to feel bad for me because of everything that’s happened.”

Ross sighed. “Give me a kiss before I say anything else.”

Puck draped his body over Ross’s chest and shared a morning kiss. He knew that he could kiss Ross twenty times a day and still want to kiss more. He closed his eyes and said, “Thank you.”

“Puck, have you looked at yourself in the mirror recently?”

“Every morning when I shave. Those dark circles are finally starting to fade.”

“And one of the most handsome men around is staring back at you unless you aren’t paying attention.”

Puck laughed and blushed. “Aw, thanks. I do my best.”

“And every day when I see you holding Addie, I think I’m watching the best dad in the world. I try to help take care of her, but she doesn’t need me. I’m just icing on the cake. She gets everything she needs from you.”

“But…happy,” whispered Puck.

“I feel safe in your arms. I’ve never been so excited with somebody in bed, and I want to write down every time we cuddle on the couch together and watch something on TV because I am so damn happy, and I don’t ever want to forget it.” Ross tangled his fingers into Puck’s hair and kissed him again, this time harder and with more passion. Their tongues tangled together and Puck moaned.

Pulling back from the kiss, he rested his cheek on Ross’s chest and said, “Thank you. I’m sorry for the stupid question.”

“Do I get more roses for this?”

Puck slapped his belly. “No, you don’t. I’m going broke on flowers as it is.”

Ross laughed. “I do love them, but you don’t have to buy them all the time. I’ll still come over.”

Puck rolled away onto his back and looked at the ceiling. “I know I don’t have to. It’s just…I never imagined anything like this. I wake up every morning, and I don’t want to be anywhere else. Everything about Miranda still hurts, but I know the future can be good. Before I met you in the grocery store that day, I thought all I had to look forward to was taking care of Addie. That’s a lot, but my heart was broken. I didn’t know what I would do when she got older. You taught me that my heart’s only injured, and it can heal.”

“This is a hell of a lot at 6:00 a.m.” Ross rolled over and faced Puck. “But you know what?”

“What?”

“I think I might be falling in love.”

Puck sighed. “I know I am. Do you have to be so tentative?”

Ross smirked. “I’m joking, and this is uncharted territory for me. I always wondered if what I felt for Andrew was love, and I know now that it wasn’t. With you, it’s love. I’m trying to ride the wave. I don’t want it to end.”

Puck cuddled up close and rested his head on Ross’s shoulder. “I don’t either. I want it to go on forever. Forever and ever.”
