Imperfect Love: The Run In (Kindle Worlds Novella) by Kelly Elliott (2)

Chapter Two

Mason

The second I saw her name on the business card I knew this was my new marketing research analyst from Seattle. She had come highly recommended, and her former boss even told me he had offered to raise her salary to keep her. She was leaving Seattle for personal reasons. At the time, I didn’t give two fucks why she was leaving. All I knew was that I wanted this girl and made her an offer with the condition that she move to New York City within two weeks. I was impressed she agreed to it.

Now she sat across my desk from me with a look of sheer panic on her face. I chose to ignore the feeling of my rock hard dick in my pants and drew my brows together. The bastard had been hard since I first laid eyes on her. Then that smart ass mouth turned me on even more.

I let my eyes travel down her body quickly before looking back into those fucking gorgeous hazel eyes of hers. “Seems like maybe you and I need a do over.”

The way her throat bobbed when she swallowed had me adjusting the suddenly too tight tie around my neck.

“A . . . a do over?” she asked.

With a smirk, I replied, “Unless you want to start our working relationship with you calling me an asshole, a jerk, and my personal favorite . . . an asshat.”

She winced.

“Of course, I did call you a bitch.”

With a now stunned expression covering her beautiful face, she asked, “When did you call me a bitch?”

“About six times under my breath.”

Narrowing her eyes, she opened her mouth and started down a road I knew she would detour. “You ass—”

Her mouth snapped shut, and she closed her eyes. Taking a deep breath, she stood and spun on her heels as she headed to my office door. Quickly standing, I started to panic.

Fuck. She’s quitting.

True to the erratic nature that was quickly becoming known to me, Saylor stopped, whirled back around and had a drop me to my fucking knees smile on her face. Where in the hell did all the air in the room go?

Holy shit. No woman has ever had this effect on me.

“Mr. Quinn, it’s such a pleasure meeting you.” She started towards me, and her hand extended out. “I’ve been looking forward to today since we last spoke on the phone.”

What in the fuck is happening right now? I stood there in stunned silence as I shook her hand and then dropped it. When I didn’t respond, she lifted her brow, and then kept going.

“I wanted to thank you again for the opportunity to show you how I’ll be able to bring Tate and Cane closer to their goals of modernizing the company. I have a feeling we’re going to make a great team, and I’m anxious to get started.”

She sat down in the chair again, crossed those amazing legs of her, and sat back. “Was that the do over you were speaking of?”

My hand pushed through my hair, and I let out a laugh. “I’ve never in my life met a woman like you, Saylor Night. How are you not a fucking CEO of your own company?”

She shrugged and gave me a cute as hell smirk. “I’m not interested in spending twenty hours a day as a slave to my job. Don’t get me wrong, I’m dedicated, but I also like to have a life. Been there done that and no longer interested.”

I nodded.

“So is our do-over going well?” she asked with a wink.

Laughing, I replied, “It’s going better than you spilling your hot tea on me.”

Both of her brows lifted and I knew she wanted to say something smart ass, but she refrained. I knew when I first spoke with her on the phone I would like her. Saylor was for sure not disappointing me. “So, is there a project you’d like me to get started on?”

I glanced over at the clock on my wall. “Not right this second. Right now, we’re heading to a meeting.”

She stood and smoothed out her skirt. The skirt that hugged that perfectly hourglass shape of hers. I liked a woman who wasn’t stick thin. Saylor’s curves all of a sudden had me flexing my hands open and closed to keep the tingling sensation to touch her away.

Far away.

Christ. Get your shit together Quinn. You’re her boss. Fuck I couldn’t help but wonder what her body looked like under those clothes. The small hint of her legs was nice, and her blouse was showing just enough to let my imagination wonder a bit.

“Mr. Quinn?”

Her voice snapped me out dirty thoughts. I ran my fingers through my hair and sighed. I needed to get laid and fast. Daydreaming about one of my co-workers, no, one of my employees, was not going to happen. No matter how damn hot she was.

And smart.

And hot.

And funny.

And hot.

“Um, Mason, are you okay?” Saylor asked again. This time she had to lean over my desk and snap her fingers in my face.

Motherfucker. I had a bird’s eye view of her cleavage.

Eyes up, Quinn.

“Yes, I’m fine. I was trying to think if I needed to go over anything before we head to a meeting with the executive officers.”

Her face fell. “Executive officers?”

“Yes, here at Tate and Cane the two CEO’s, who by the way are married, like to meet their new staff and have made it a monthly thing. You’re lucky; you started on the day they have this month’s meeting.”

She forced a smile. “Wonderful, I’m looking forward to it.”

Saylor moved her fingers over the stain on her blouse.

“Want to take off your blouse?”

Her mouth dropped. “Excuse me?”

I pointed to the stain. “Your blouse, you’re nervous about the stain. Do you want to take it off and put another on?”

“I um . . . I don’t carry extra blouses with me.”

Walking around my desk, I headed over to the closet and opened it. Reaching in, I picked out a blouse that was almost similar to the one Saylor had on. Turning, I handed it to her.

“Here ya go.”

She stood there staring at me like she wanted to slap the living fuck out of me. “You want me to wear that? Whom may I ask is the owner of that blouse?”

Wanting to see how riled up I could get her, I stated, “My ex.”

Her eyes grew wider as if she went to say something, but thought better of it.

“I’ll pass, thank you.”

Whirling around, she headed to my door. “I’ll wait at your receptionist desk since I’m not sure where we are going.”

I had to bite my cheek to keep from laughing. “Suit yourself!” I called out after she nearly slammed the door shut.

With a huge smile covering my face, I headed back to my desk and grabbed my cell phone.

What had started out as a shittastic day had turned to be a rather interesting one.
