Melody Anne's Billionaire Universe: Risk (Kindle Worlds Novella) by Taige Crenshaw (3)

“That woman is going to drive me to drink.” David lifted a glass of whiskey.

In the last few weeks since they had been dating Michelle had kept him off balance. Whenever he thought he had figured out why she did something, she did something else that made him know he didn’t. The woman was an enigma and didn’t fit in any box or any plan.

“I am so screwed.” He took a drink from his glass the lowered it. “And now she is making me talk to myself. Yep she is driving me crazy.”

“And to drink.” A man chuckled. “Don’t forget that part.”

David glared at the man coming into his office. “Dad, I blame you and Mom for this. If I hadn’t been trying to get away from your matchmaking I wouldn’t have met Michelle.”

His dad sat before his desk. “What matchmaking?”

“Don’t use that innocent look on me.” David pointed a finger at him. “Mom has been plotting to match make but I’m not falling for it.”

“I have not been plotting.” His mother said.

He watched as she strode in smiled at him. David narrowed his eyes as she strolled to her husband and sat on the arm of his chair. His dad put his hand on her leg and she kissed his softly before focusing on David.

“You have.” David scowled. “Comes from your hanging around the Anderson’s.”

His parents exchanged looks then looked at him and laughed. David frowned not sure what was so funny.

“Son,” his dad said. “We knew we couldn’t get you to go out with a woman we choose. It would need to be your choice.”

“So you weren’t matchmaking?” He rubbed his fingers along the bridge of his nose. “I’m so confused.”

“I was too when your Mom told me.”

“Explain.”

“Basically, we didn’t do anything. Just let you think we planned to match make thus you were too busy supposedly outwitting us you found your own match.” His dad smirked.

“That makes absolutely no sense.” David looked at his Mom. “And sounds so much like you. Another of your schemes.”

“No scheme.” She opened her hands then laughed. “And it was the best thing I did. Absolutely nothing.”

He stared and couldn’t think of what to say. She was right. They had all assumed their parents…more specifically their Mom was planning for them. Now to find out she wasn’t.

“So I met Michelle by chance.” David mused. “Found my so—“

He stopped as he realized what he was about to say.

“Soul mate.” His dad said gently.

“Come on you can say it.” His mom cajoled.

“That’s not possible. I haven’t known her that long.” David protested.

“I knew when I first saw your dad.” His mom looked at his dad. “Dave you were mine from time I laid eyes on you.”

“I took some convincing, Alicia but you were determined.” His dad looked at David. “She stalked me.”

“I did not.” His mom laughed then smiled sheepishly. “I did sort of but it wasn’t creepy or anything.”

He smiled as he thought of the first note when Michelle had said the same thing.

“So love has no time table.” She said.

“Nope.” His dad said. “And it will kick in your teeth and knock you on your butt.”

“Now, now honey that wasn’t intentional.” His mom said.

David frowned. He’d heard of their courtship before but not anything about what they are inferring.

“There are certain things you don’t tell your kids.” His mom smiled. “When you give me grandbabies you’ll know what I mean.”

“Mom.”

“Hey, my baby is in love.” She squealed.

“I didn’t say that.” David thought of Michelle and knew he was in lust.

“Baby, you don’t want to ask him what he is thinking.” His dad said.

He returned his attention to them. His mom closed her mouth. His dad winked at him. David smiled and changed the subject.

“So I’ll let the siblings know that they can relax and that you’re not matchmaking. They will be relieved.”

“We never said we’re not.” His Mom said cheerfully and she stood.

His dad rose too.

“But—“

“Son, she said she wasn’t doing that for you. Not for Brandon either. And he also fell hard.” His dad laughed. “Imagine she got two at once with doing nothing. Wait until she puts her mind to it.”

David was even more confused. “But she said she wasn’t matc…”

He thought of what she said. His Mom hadn’t done anything for him or it seems Brandon. Yet they both had found someone. She was good.

“I know.” His mom grinned and laughed as she left the room.

“How the hell does she do that?” David asked as he always did as she seemed to read his mind.

“She’s a mother. They have these mind tricks.” His dad said. “I wish I had it too.”

“Should I even warn the others?”

“Warn them about what.” His dad opened his arms wide. “Maybe she is messing with you about not matchmaking or maybe she did.”

David studied his dad. He scowled as he couldn’t read his as usual. The man was an astute negotiator and known for his poker face. His dad rocked back on his heels and smiled.

“Now go get your woman.” His dad wiggled his eyebrows. “Do me proud.”

David laughed. His dad went out. He sobered and thought of what he said. David rose and headed for the door. He pulled out his cell and texted his siblings to be on guard and he’d explain later. Well if he could figure out what to say. He was still confused if there was matchmaking involved or not.

Does it even matter? You want Michelle now go get her.

Over an hour later David pulled up in her driveway. She’d told him a few days earlier she was taking a rare day off. She’d asked him to play hooky but he had too much work and couldn’t. He parked and quickly turned off his truck before getting out. He strode to her door thinking of what he would say.  He took the steps two at a time then when he was in front of her door he knocked. He paced before her door. It opened and he stared at the woman who had befuddled him from the start.

“I thought you couldn’t play hooky with me.” She smiled then it faded. “What’s wrong?”

“You.” He ran his hands along his hair. “You. From the time I meet you I knew it was a risk to get to know you. A risk to my carefully laid out plans but I couldn’t stay away.” He glared at her. “You made me love you damn it.”

“What a way to tell someone you love them.” She smiled widely. “I love you too, Sexy. Crazy as it is so soon.”

“It’s not crazy. You drive me crazy. And you drive me to drink.” David closed the distance between them. “I’m going to ask you to marry me.” He pulled her to him.

Michelle stiffened then relaxed. “Fine. If you ask…maybe I’ll say yes.”

“And it’s not going to be the time in my ten year plan.”

She looked at him. “You have in your ten year plan a time to ask someone to marry you? What happened if you weren’t involved at the time? Is there a date, time and second too?”

“I had a plan to make sure I was in a serious relationship at the time.” He scowled. “You’re not what I expected and you blew my timing way off.”

“That’s me. Outside the plan. Love that. May get a shirt saying that. And get you a matching one saying I’m a planner.”

“And I’d wear it.” He walked her backward into the house.

“Good.” She laughed.

He kissed her. Michelle opened and returned it. He lifted her and took her inside closing the door with his foot. She pulled back.

“Bed.” She pointed first door on right.

She kissed him again. He went hard. They had gotten heated at times but not all the way. He went to where she stated. Inside he set her down then took off her clothing before removing his own.  Michelle opened the nightstand and took out some condoms. She turned to him then sat before scooting back against the covers. She lay against the pillows and watched him. That look was one he knew so well. He retrieved a condom then opened it before smoothing it on. He went to the bed and blanketed her body with him. She rocked against him moaning deep in her throat.

“Michelle.” He whispered his heart racing as he hardened even more.

She widened her legs cradling him between them. He kissed her and rocked against her wetness. David groaned at how she was so ready for him. He shifted and touched her stroking along her heated core.

“David.” She clenched her nails into his shoulders.

He resettled against her then widened her legs before he stroked into her. Michelle arched taking him in. She held him tight as he moved deep within her. He went deeper and she met him thrust for thrust. He increased his motions and stared into her eyes.

Those hazel eyes were glazed as she strove toward release. She clenched and he went deep once, twice and breathed out as she came around him.

“David.” She said then whimpered as she orgasmed.

He kept filling her prolonging her release. David arms went tight as he braced himself over her. The power of his movement as he took her made her lose her breath. She leaned her head up and nipped along his nipple. He shuddered then stiffened as he too came. She held him as he slumped over her as he shook with his release. David’s harsh breath against the side of her face warmed her. She turned her head and met his lips kissing him. He lazily kissed her then nuzzled into the side of her neck.

“Love you.”

“Love you.” David returned. “Even though you’re not in my plan.”

She poked him in the side. David laughed and lifted his head. She rolled her eyes.

“Sexy, don’t make me hurt you.”

“Nah you love me.” He stared. “You were a risk but so worth it.”

“Of course I was worth it.” Michelle laughed. “And you escaped your Mom’s matchmaking.”

“About that…I’m not so sure.” David said.

She looked at him. He explained then what was done.

“Your expression is probably like the one I had. Baffled.” He shook his head. “I have no clue if she was matchmaking or not. No idea what to tell the others to look out for.”

“Your Mom is a savvy woman.” Michelle said. “I’d suggest letting them figure it out themselves.”

“You know you might be right.” David chuckled. “As I found out myself, love has no timing whatsoever.”

She hugged him and kissed him. He was so right. They had met and now they were in love. There was no rhyme or reasoning to what the heart wants. You just had to take a risk and see what happened.
