Chapter Nine

Hi John,

Dr. Edward Sevilli here. Sorry to hear about you going on medical leave from the police force. I know you’ve been ill for some years now, and that’s exactly why I wanted to get in touch. I might be able to help you.

The United States Hematology Foundation has funded a research project for me to identify and study undiagnosed blood disorders. I think you’d be a perfect candidate.

About four years ago you were in Scripps Hospital following a gunshot wound, and your blood tests came back with an unidentifiable element. This is exactly the type of blood anomaly I’m looking to study.

I’d only need a few blood samples from you, and I’ve been authorized to offer you $1,000 for your involvement. I hope you’ll consider participating. Maybe we could finally figure out what’s going on with you.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Eddie

Hey Eddie,

Good to hear from you. It’s been awhile.

Congratulations on your research project, but I’m going to have to pass. Not really my thing.

Good luck with it.

John

Are you sure, John?

The results of my research could possibly cure you.

Sorry, Eddie.

I try to steer clear of doctors. No offense to you personally.

All right. Sorry to hear it, but I understand.

Perhaps you can help me track down another man I’d like to approach for this study. He was in the hospital at the same time you were—I believe he was a suspect of yours, in fact. His blood had a similar unidentifiable anomaly in it.

His name is Devid Nichita, but the contact information listed in his hospital record leads nowhere.

Any clue how I might get in touch with him?

Not really, Eddie, sorry.

I have an email address associated with Nichita, but it hasn’t been used in several years, so it’s probably a dead end.

I hate to ask a favor, since I just bagged out of your research project, but if you unearth any new information about Nichita, could you pass it on?

I’ve got unfinished business with the guy.

Sure, no problem, John.

John,

I received a strange hit on Devid Nichita.

A couple days ago I put this name on the site PeopleFinder.com, and some man (who had an internet alert set up for the name Nichita) wrote to me and said he might be looking for the same person.

What’s up with this Devid Nichita that everyone is after him?

The man who contacted me is from Transylvania. Strange, right? So I’m not sure how to respond. He seemed especially excited about the strange blood part.

Transylvania? That is strange.

Do you mind if I contact the guy?

Go for it.

Here’s his info:

Email: [email protected].

He has an odd handle—MoonRiderOne. I don’t know his name.

It doesn’t sound like he knows anything about how to find Nichita, but if it turns out he does, please let me know.

I’ll definitely keep you in the loop if anything pops, Eddie.

Thanks.

Dear Sir,

I’m a colleague of Dr. Edward Sevilli, and he gave me permission to contact you regarding Devid Nichita.

I might have a way of finding this man, but if you don’t mind the question, why are you looking for him?

Dear Justice Seeker,

Thank you for contacting me. I’m very interested in discussing this matter further with you.

The reason I seek Devid Nichita is a highly personal matter to me, but I will say that the situation has to do with a relative I once knew of his in Romania.

If you don’t mind a question of my own, why are you contacting me if you have a way of finding Devid Nichita yourself?

On Thurs, Nov. 10, 2017 at 4:55 P.M. (PST), JusticeSeeker <[email protected]> wrote:

I currently lack the resources to manage Nichita and his associates on my own.

I’m hoping this isn’t an issue for you.

Resources aren’t a problem for me, no—I have considerable at my disposal.

If your Devid Nichita is the man I also pursue (and I think he is, because how many men named Nichita have strange blood?), I would be most eager to help you.

On Fri, Nov. 10, 2017 at 9:06 P.M. (PST), JusticeSeeker <[email protected]> wrote:

All right, but Nichita isn’t an easy man to pin down. He’s part of a security team, and so he’s never alone and usually armed.

Again, this is not a problem.

Shall we meet?
