Passionate Yearning: A Zodiac Shifter Romance - Libra by Solease M Barner, Zodiac Shifters (1)

JONATHAN

The night is calm tonight. As I’m watching the humans roam around, blissfully unaware of my presence, I wonder would they be so blissful if they knew what lurks around every corner. My neck turns as I see one of those that seek to do harm to humans and even some of the lesser supers.

My extraordinary eyesight zooms in on the beast. The scales on my back begin to rise slightly as I determine if I’m going to have to intervene. The beast is in human form, but I know his true nature, a wolf. He doesn’t notice me, but I see him looking around, I’m sure trying to see who he will devour, but I’m the law, the balance, and the gift among this part of the world. I will not allow him to do anything that could cause harm or death, not on my watch.

Even though I wish I didn’t have this job, I’m always issuing out a punishment or settling disputes. In the last two hundred years, since I was appointed this position, that’s been my life. I’m due to serve this region for another one hundred years before I can submit a request to be released.

It’s not that my duty is not important or that I don’t get enjoyment knowing that I’m protecting the ones who can’t protect themselves; it’s because it’s all I do every day. The scenario changes, but it’s still the same.

When I see the beast make a turn down the alley, I leap off the building, landing on my feet with ease. Quickly I move, listening to the beast’s footsteps and heartbeat. As I round the corner, I see the beast has pinned a man against the wall and is growling at him.

I rush over and push the beast to the ground, and when I look at the man, I see he’s suffered a broken arm and more bruises. I pull out my cell to make an anonymous call to the paramedics to come check on an unconscious man. The guy looked at me in confusion and then goes unconscious, and he falls to the ground in a deep sleep.

I lift the beast to his feet as he’s squirming to break free and use my powers to transport us to my place to issue out his punishment.

When I throw him down and step up on the throne, my body relaxes some.

“The guy attacked me, and I was defending myself.” The beast says.

I lean over and pour myself some wine, ignoring the lie I just heard.

“What is your name beast?” I ask.

“I’m Harold Dune and would never attack anyone unless provoked.” He stands fixing his clothes.

“Harold Dune, I believe what you say is not the truth, in fact, it does not sound like the truth, but for my amusement only, if you are the victim in this situation why didn’t you run once you were ahh…free from the assailant?”

Harold’s eyes roam around, I’m sure looking for an escape, but there’s not one. He finally looked at me and then spoke.

“Ok, Jonathan, I’ll tell you the truth, but do you promise to show me mercy?”

“I promise you what’s due to you, now tell me the truth, and remember, I can tell if you’re lying.”

“I did attack him, only because he was following me. He works for someone that can do harm to me in ways that I don’t want to experience.”

“Why is someone looking to harm you?”

“Why does it matter?”

My patience runs thin when my questions are not being answered. A low, but furious growl comes from my chest, and the beast bends in submission.

“There’s an entire council in the underworld which despise being made to follow rules. They have been building a group to rebel against the rulers of regions that watch over us.”

I stand and walk towards him, and he lowers himself to the ground covering his face. I’m angry that some creatures have decided to question my authority and are gathering others to support their stupidity. The laws are here to protect them as well.

“Harold Dune, you will be imprisoned while I seek out this council you speak of.”

I raise my hands, and a few of my guards come and chain the wolf with pure silver chains. These will weaken him and defuse any chance of him trying to get away. As I walk away hearing Harold’s screams of pain because of the silver, I think who would have the balls to form some group, and the main point is how I didn’t know.

I go back to the area Harold attacked the man and follow his scent. It appears the EMT did come and pick him up. I walk away from the alley and go towards the hospital.

When I arrive at the hospital, I may look a little out of place. I’m wearing my long black trench coat, casual black slacks, cream shirt and my serious face! I don’t look like I need a doctor.  As I’m walking past some patients in the waiting area, the looks I get are curiosity. I have mastered the presence of not being feared among the humans.

I stop and look around, making sure my victim is not in the waiting area. There are children and adults, elderly and even some women who looked like they were about to give birth. The waiting area is packed to capacity, so the sooner I find my guy, the sooner I can leave.

When I walk up to the counter, the two ladies start smiling at me. Neither one asked me what I needed, so I decide to step up and ask the questions.

“I’m looking for my friend.”

I lean over the counter to get closer, and the two ladies sigh out loud.

“Male or female?” One asks as she looks away blushing. It’s only looks, but if this is what I can use to get back there to that guy, I will use it.

“It’s a male, he came in unconscious found in an alley not too far from here.”

“You talking about Larry Talbert, he’s here Mr…I didn’t get your name.” She says, sexy. I look at her name tag, and it says, Paula.  I need to get to Larry Talbert and get the information from him. If that means leading these beautiful ladies on, I will. It’s not that I don’t find them attractive because I do, but for their safety, I can’t be involved with such fragile beings.

“Jonathan sweetheart and if you would do me a favor and allow me to check in on my friend, I promise to be in and out fast,” I say calmly.

Paula licks her lips and then leans close to me. I lock eyes with her, and I knew without a doubt she couldn’t resist my mesmerizing eyes that I use to make humans do as I ask.

“Ok Jonathan, but I hope to see you after you check on your friend.”

“I promise Paula that you’ll see me.”

I walk past the ladies, and they buzz me into the back. I start getting the same stares, but I ignore it concentrating on the scent of Larry Talbert and Harold Dune. Harold Dune roughed him up and left his scent on Larry. He’s not going to be hard to find.

As I’m walking down the hall trying not to bring too much attention to myself, a human female is talking to another doctor as she’s passing me. I can’t help but notice her, and what’s more important, she didn’t smell all the way human, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. As soon as I pass her I look over my shoulder looking back at her; she has light brown hair, pulled up in a messy pony tail, her body petite, but shapely, and she has honey colored eyes. I want to stop and see why I don’t know her scent, but I have bigger things to worry about.

Soon I arrive at Larry’s door. I can smell him, and without delay, I push the door open finding him still unconscious. I walk over to him, taking my hand and laying it on his head. After I close my eyes, I begin to pull his memories of Harold and even more supers out of his thoughts. As the images hit my head, I find that Harold is telling the truth. A group of supers has formed and are planning to do some type of takeover, but I’m their problem.

The growl in my chest starts to build and even though I would like to let it out, I don’t. I pace the floor some and turn and look at Larry, who I would like to do damage to for his part in this plot.

I walk out of the room and look around and start to walk out the doors, but then I remembered the doctor who doesn’t smell all human. Maybe I should walk away, she’s harmless, no threat of her breaking any laws, yet, I want to know her name at least.

I find her at the desk with a few nurses and more doctors. As I get closer, the conversation among them all starts to cease.

“Excuse me, do I know you?” I ask the honey eyed doctor. I know it may sound like a lame pick up line, but I’m not trying to pick her up, but rather find out who she really is.

“No, I’m sure you don’t know me.” She responds.

“I think I do know you,” I look at her badge and then continue. “Dr. Raina Peters.”

“Who are you here to see sir?” She snaps.

“I needed to see a friend, and I’m leaving but I thought I knew you, my apologies,” I reply.

I can tell from her tone that she is becoming more resistant to me saying I know her. I take one last look at this beauty and walk away. As I pass the ladies at the desk, I wave at Paula as promised and went back out into the night.

I walk quickly away from the hospital and find a secluded space to change form. Usually, I can wait to do this, but after hearing and finding out all I have today, I need to release some stress. The only way I know how to do that is to fly, it gives me a chance to think and look at the situation as the region Keeper of the Law.

Taking a chance of a human seeing me, I decide it’s worth the risk. I get to a high rise and go to the roof, and then I strip down and spread my arms wide beside me allowing the change to take over.

As my body begins to shift and my legs stretch and my arms become wings, I can feel the stress leaving me.  Soon I’m my full dragon flying at high speeds in the air and now invisible to the human eye. As I look down on the people, even moving in high speeds, I know that my duty to find those that would like to do them harm and issue a punishment is a must.

I’m not a dragon shifter that believes supers should be allowed to prey on the humans, even though they are lesser to us.

I will find those that conspire against me and my region. I will not go down so easily. After all, I’m Jonathan Justice the dragon!

“Dr. Peters, who was the hottie?” Debbie asks.

She’s one of the nurses who was drooling over the mysterious, sexy man. I’m not sure why he thought he knew me. At first, I thought he was trying to hit on me, but he seemed genuine about knowing me.

“I don’t know who that was, but he thought he knew me,” I reply.

She walks over to me with a huge smile.

“Dr. Peters, I hope you pretended you knew him, I wanted to jump his bones as he was standing there,” Debbie says, moving her bottom sexually.

I start laughing as she moves her body with no rhythm. I shake my head at her and finish up my charts for the next Doctor coming to relieve me. I’ve been working for fourteen hours with only a short break for a few minutes.

I grab my bag and say my goodbyes and went out the back to my car.  Once I’m inside, I take a moment to relax some. It was a trying time in the ER, but at least I didn’t lose a patient.

I start my Ford Focus and speed off to my home.

As I’m driving on the freeway home, I look in the sky and see something flying in the air. It can’t be a bird because it looks too big, but I know sometimes sleep deprivation can make you see things that aren’t there. I look away and continue to my home. I zoom into my garage and close it, going inside to get some much-needed rest for a couple of days.

I drop my bag on the floor at the door and walk to my kitchen to get some wine. I need to unwind. As I’m pouring the wine, I hear a noise on my roof that doesn’t sound like rain. I take a step, and everything is silent, so I ignore it and get ready for a long hot bath.

As I walk into my bedroom, I start pulling off my clothes and shoes, scattering them as I go towards my bathroom. My house is not the most up to date because I bought an older home, but I made sure to renovate the bathroom because that’s the place I relax the most when I’m not at work, besides the bed for sleep.

I walk into my bathroom and sigh, smiling at how beautiful it looks. I walk over and start running the water and pull my hair out of its ponytail, shaking my head, getting even more relaxed. I walk back over to the tub, pour in my favorite lavender oil, turn the water off and step in. After I close my eyes and begin relaxing, I hear another sound outside. I raise my body up to listen and hope I hear it again and within seconds the sound happens again, and it sounds like a loud roar or growl but coming from on top of my roof.

The night I’ve been having with the strange, sexy guy and now the weird noises, I’m going to finish relaxing and let whatever is outside making the creepy noises not bother me because I’m safe in my home. I need sleep, and maybe in the morning I’ll make sure my roof is still intact, and that’s a strong maybe.

Once I’m in bed and drifting off to sleep, I hear someone beating at my door. I rub my eyes and look at the clock, and its 4:00 in the morning.

“Who the hell is banging on my door this early in the morning?” I say climbing out of the bed. I walk over to my drawer and grab my 38 pistol, because whoever is banging on the door better be the police or they might get shot tonight.

As I’m walking to the door, I feel a little weird, like something is wrong. I’ve always had a sense of when something was not right, and I have that feeling right now.

“WHO IS IT?!” I yell, standing far away from the door. It could be more than one person.

“Dr. Raina Peters, I met you earlier, please I need to talk with you.”

HOLY SHIT! It’s the guy from the hospital and why do I remember his voice. I’m not responding to a crazy guy and how did he know where I live. I knew something was strange about him at the hospital with the cryptic I know you questions.

I take the safety off the gun and stand as still as I could. If he bursts through the door, I’m going to blow him away.

“Raina, I’m not your enemy, but others are, and you’re not safe, open the door please.” The stranger pleads.

I can’t believe how sincere he sounds, but all killers play on their victims. I thought this was a safe neighborhood. I’m not opening my door for a stranger; it’s not going to happen.

I stand, listening to him outside my door. I need to call the police because he obviously doesn’t want to leave.

“I’m calling the police mister.”

“Raina, I have already stopped a couple of them outside, they will only send more. Damn you, human woman, don’t you feel like something is wrong?”

“Yeah, you are the danger and why would the police not come?”

“They have interfered with your cell tower over here, and you won’t get a signal, come I can keep you safe.”

“GET AWAY FROM MY DOOR YOU!”

I tip toe to the counter and pick up my cell, and it says no signal, so I tried my hospital cell, and it says the same thing, shit he’s trying to kill me.

I stand there feeling a fear wash over me. I look out my back window and contemplate leaving through said window until I see a wolf perched right outside of it. I take a step back, and the wolf looks and seems like it’s smiling at me, then bursts through my window.

A few things start happening all at once. The wolf attacks me, and I start shooting, then I take notice that the wolf is bigger than it should be, and most importantly, the strange guy from the hospital bursts through my door. The last thing I remember before letting the darkness take me is the stranger snapping the head of the wolf clean off.

Then everything goes dark.

I have a human in my bed sleeping, and I brought her here on purpose. Even though it was a stupid idea, I don’t want her to die. Someone at the hospital must be a wolf or work with them because the only reason I can think of is they were trying to get to Raina because they think her and I have a connection. The problem with their theory is its wrong, until now. After it’s reported back to them that I killed wolves and took the human, she’s going to become a very important piece.

I’m curious as to why she doesn’t smell all the way human, but none of that matters now. She’s in danger because of me. I will make it safe for her again and then return her back to her human life.

I look as she sleeps and her beauty is incomparable. I’ve never seen such a beautiful woman. Her porcelain skin looks amazing on my bed. I’ve not allowed myself the time to build a relationship with a female in over two hundred years, basically since I’ve been assigned the law keeper of this region.

She starts to wake, and I watch from the corner, wondering what her reaction will be. She stretches ,and it’s like watching an angel come to life. A huge smile comes across her face, and I wonder what she’s thinking. I hope her smile remains once she realizes she’s in a dragon’s home.

“I feel so good.” She says to know one.

I sit observing her, taking in her smell, still wondering why she doesn’t smell all the way human to me. Then her eyes fully open and in an instant, all the joy slips away. She looks around the room and finally her eyes land on me, and she pulls the covers closer and tighter to her body.

“It wasn’t a crazy dream. What are you going to do to me?” She whispers.

I stand slowly, trying not to scare her more, but with being who I am, it comes with the job, others fear me.

“It wasn’t a dream. I’m going to protect you until it’s safe for you.” I reply.

“What are you and who are you?” Raina asks.

I stand at the foot of the bed and really look at her. I know once I tell her who I am she’s going to be scared and possibly start screaming, which I’m not looking forward to.

“My name is Jonathan Justice, and I keep the order among the supernatural in my region.” I reply leaving out the most important part, but I know I’m going to have to tell her who I am.

“Keep order for the supernatural? What are you some kind of weird supernatural chaser?”

“So you believe in supernaturals?” I ask frowning, trying to understand her more.

“Well, I don’t believe humans are the only thing on Earth, I mean if God created all the animals and us, yeah I believe in other beings, but…” She looks at me in horror. “So those wolves last night were trying to kill me because of what?” She asks.

“Look, there’s a rebellion happening, but don’t worry, I will take care of it, but in the mean time, you have to stay here with me…Plus you need to know, that those wolves are half human and I’m more than human.”

“What do you mean half human? And you are more than human, what the hell are you saying?” She says, with wide eyes. I look to see if I can tell if she’s afraid, but she’s waiting for my response.

“I’m a dragon and shift in human form, but you don’t need to worry I’m not going to harm you.”

She looks around the room and back at me then at the door. It seems like she could be contemplating on making a run for it, but she still couldn’t leave without permission.

“You need help, and I won’t hold it against you that I’m here at your place, but you must allow me to check you in the…”

The thought of her thinking I’m crazy, lying or weird, but it makes me upset. I hide my annoyance, deciding doing something drastic is the only way to convince her. I allow my eyes to change to beast and to my surprise my beast let out a loud growl. It shakes the room, and I see Raina hold on to the bed pole looking frightened. It’s not my intention to scare her, but she needs to know the truth.

“Take me home, I have work to do. And how do I know you’re not a bad creature yourself.” She snaps.

“Don’t call me a creature Raina Peters and you can’t go home, they will take you as soon as they get a chance. Now I have a question for you. Where’s your fear? You seem really calm for this being thrown at you so fast unless you’re hiding something.”

Raina looks at me, and I can see tears forming in her eyes.

“I’m scared shitless right now, and because I’m in a place against my will, that frightens me even more. Do I know or believe everything you have told me? I’m not sure, but I will believe it if you let me go home.”

I turn and walk to the window and look out at my land. It’s well taken care of, but secure. There will never be danger here because it’s made so that only way you can enter is if I invite you in.

After a few seconds, I decide to leave Raina alone, her pleading to leave is wasted air. I can’t let her leave because I saved her from a super. I must ensure she’s safe before I allow her to leave and that’s going to make me the bad guy, even though I’m really the good guy.

“I’ll leave you now. There’s a bathroom to your right, and I’ll have food sent to you.” I say, walking to the door to leave. She jumps out the bed and runs over to me.

“Please let me go home. I’m a doctor. I save lives. I can’t stay here.” She begs.

“I’m saving your life so you can save lives, Dr. Peters.” I reply and walk out, closing the door behind me. I can hear her crying and banging on the door.

I need to make it safe, so I can return her back to her life and before this human gets under my skin. After opening my secret door to my holding cell underground, I find Harold sleeping on the floor snoring.

“Wake up you criminal.” I say.

He stays asleep, and it only angers me more that he’s resting when I have a human female crying her eyes out because of some silly takeover that will never happen.

“HAROLD!” I yell. The walls tremble.

Harold jumps up, a little uneasy on his feet. Then he rubs his eyes and sits back down on the ground.

“Oh Jonathan, you know you’re not to wake a sleeping wolf.”

“I’m the dragon that could eat the wolf if I so choose.” I snap.

I don’t have time for Harolds games. I need to know more about this rebellion.

“Harold, no more games. I went into the human mind at the hospital, and though I found out some useful information, I need more.”

“I’m not going to tell you any more, that could not only get me killed but also my pack could be in danger.”

“The leader, is he dragon?”

“Yes and a nasty mean one, but promises freedom for us supers.”

I look at him, and I know that he’s telling the truth, he can’t lie to me, the keeper of the law, when he stands before me.

“What is this dragon’s name that tries to defy me?” I demand.

“If I tell you, it will be my head.”

“If you don’t I will take it as you volunteering to offer your head as payment for your disrespect.”

Harold stands and starts pacing in the cell, every few seconds he looks at me and shakes his head. From his reaction, it looks like he’s still debating on whether or not it’s a good idea to tell me, I give him encouragement.

Using all my strength, I growl, allowing my dragon to come forth in sound and in fire. Harold runs and tries to hide from me in the corner, but my eyesight is beyond excellent.

“Ok, ok you don’t have to do that, but you’re not going to like the name.”

“Give me the name.” I command.

“Nathan! It’s Nathan, your brother!” He says.

“You lie! My brother is not even anywhere near this region. Last I’d known, he is in our native land.” I snap.

“Nathan is here and gathering a following you would not believe.”

I look at Harold, and my eyes and ears are not lying to me, he speaks the truth.

“Nathan has always been good at talking, but why?” I ask to no one, but Harold responds.

“He says we should be able to rule over the humans, not be afraid of them finding out about us, speaking of humans I smell one near.”

I walk towards the way out, thinking about what I should do with my brother. He is someone I have always looked up to and to know he’s working against me breaks my heart.

“The human, why is she here.” Harold asks.

“I saved her from wolves trying to kill her.  I can only assume they thought she meant something to me as I spoke with her at the hospital.”

“So you have a human in your home, I knew you wasn’t all bad. Did you bed her?” Harold asks with glee.

“No, I didn’t bed her, but I got her into this mess, so I’ll get her out. I need to locate my brother first.”

“You will never find him; he’s using a witch to hide his location.”

“Oh, I can find him, not even a witch can get in between our bond, we are brothers and dragons.”

As I left Harold screaming for me to let him free, I go to my study, where there are things from my native land that will help me contact my brother. Maybe he has a reason for trying to take over my region. He knows the consequences would be death trying to over throw a keeper of the law.

I pick up the small gold horn that fits perfectly in my hand. There were only two made; one for me and one for my brother. Once I blow this horn we will be able to talk, but not see each other. He will hear me and I can hear him no matter the distance. I’m hoping that my brother is in our native land enjoying the company of a female, eating food, drinking wine, not in my region causing havoc.

I lift the horn to my mouth and blow as hard as I can. I only blow once, for that will be all it will take.

“Jonathan, you rang.” Nathan asks calmly.

“Yes brother, I would like to know if what I hear is true.” I say, getting right to the point.

“I assume you mean that I’m in your region and will free the people of being subjected to your rules.”

“Those rules have been around for thousands of years brother, please don’t try to come against me, you will lose.” I reply.

“You think because you are the keeper of the law that you can try to control me? I do not reside in this region, I’m merely a visitor, so your laws don’t apply to me.” He chuckles.

“The law applies to all those who step their foot in my region. Now give up this rebellion Nathan and leave the human alone, she needs to go back home, but I need your word.”

“If she means something to you I will not leave this human female alone, besides I think she could be a great pet for me, she’s extremely beautiful wouldn’t you say?” Nathan taunts.

“You stay away from the human female, Nathan, or you will make me angry and you can’t beat me.”

“I think you know what I intend to do, there is no need to talk, Brother. I have lived in your shadow for many years, now I will step forth and create my own laws.”

“Then I guess I’ll have to stop you from making a big mistake.” I say confidently.

“May the best dragon win.”

With that our connection is gone and I’m left trying to understand how my brother has decided that it would be a good idea to come against me.

I’m the keeper of the law, and now my brother is breaking laws purposely. There’s not much I can say that will change his mind, Nathan has always thought of everything as a competition. Now that I know it’s my brother, I still need to do what’s required by law, I only hope that I can be fair with it being my brother. I do hope he sees this is a huge mistake and makes it right!

The trying to relate to this guy is not working. He clearly needs to be in a hospital, in a padded room. He truly believes he’s protecting me by kidnapping me.

I look around the room for a way to escape, but there is not one in sight. Even the beautiful window has some kind of device that will only allow it to open so much, but there’s nothing outside but trees and fields, no sign of help nearby.

Food was delivered like he promised, but he must have forgotten to tell them I’m only one person. There is enough food here to feed an entire team.

I shower and put on the clothes he has for me. Then my mind wonders about all the things I’ve seen and heard about wolves, dragons and God knows what else. I do believe that there are other beings on earth, or in the universe, but I never thought I would be encountering them.

Jonathan Justice seems like he’s the good guy, but he’s taken me by force, and that’s not a good thing. He’s nice to look at though. Jonathan is tall and built like a mix between a boxer and a pro basketball player. He has amazing dark gray eyes, and he has dimples that are to die for. I will not allow his looks to distract me from getting away from him.

I’m eating an apple when Jonathan comes walking through the door.

“I hope you’re going to eat more than an apple, Raina.” Jonathan speaks, walking over to the table on wheels full of food.

“It’s hard to eat when you don’t know what the future holds.” I reply.

Jonathan turns and looks at me, and if I’m not mistaken, his gray eyes glowed for a second then went back to normal.

“You’re a doctor, eating properly is something you know is good for you, and as for the future, you shall have one. I’m not your enemy.”

Even though I can hear the words coming out of his mouth, his dimples are so sexy that I’m focused around his mouth.

Then I pull myself together and really start to plead my case.

“Jonathan, you have to know keeping me locked up in a room is wrong. I’m not the one who has done anything, and humans don’t run and hide from a bully, we take them on.”

“The fact that you think that you could win with human ways is amazing, this fight can only be handled and won by me. I found out who’s behind wanting to take you and it’s more serious than I thought. My brother Nathan has…”

“Hold the hell on, your brother? You mean to tell me this is some family issue? I really need to go to work and do what I’m good at and you holding me here because of your brother is wrong,”

“ENOUGH!” My voice is loud and commanding.

“Dr. Peters…Raina, please forgive me my outburst. I know being home would be better for you, but I can protect you better here. My brother is not one who likes to give up and if he wants you, I’m sure it’s for a reason. Please don’t fight me on this.”

“If you have a heart or a soul or anything, you will find a way that I can go home and work because I can’t stay here, plus I’ve taken self-defense classes.”

“How did those classes help when the wolf attacked you at your home? I might add that is the place you wish to return to.”

“Hey, it didn’t help because I was caught off guard, but this time I know what to expect, and I didn’t say you can’t protect me, I just said I want to go home.”

Jonathan looks at me and picks up a handful of grapes and stuffs his mouth and when I think he’s going to respond, he picks up some bacon and starts eating and then has the nerve to smile sweetly at me.

“Jonathan, you’re being rude now.”

Finally, he stops eating and drinks down some juice.

“Raina, if, and I do mean if, I allow you to go home, I would have to accompany you everywhere you go, including the hospital and the first time you attempt to ditch me, I will bring you back here until the threat is taken care of.”

“If you will allow me to go home and to walk around freely in my home, then I will allow you to stay and protect me from your crazy ass brother. Now, work, I’m not sure how I’m going to get you in while I’m treating patients. We have something here in the USA called HIPAA laws, so yeah, not sure about that. I will be safe at the hospital, I promise, and when I leave you can be outside waiting. Although, I’m not sure how you’re going to solve the problem if you’re with me always.”

He walks over to me slowly, and everything south goes weak for him. I’m not sure why my attraction for him is so strong, but I will not act on it.

“HIPAA laws are not something I know about, so they will not apply to me, and as for solving the problem, I have my ways. Now, I’m going to take you home, but let’s hug on this agreement.”

Hug? I don’t want to hug him. He’s way too sexy to be that close only for a hug. I’m looking away hoping he forgets the hug, but he stands there with those sexy eyes and towers over me.

“A hug is not…”

“It’s the only way you’re leaving here, Dr. Peters.”

I move forward, and he very gently pulls me close and wraps his arms around my waist. I didn’t know where to put my arms, so they rested on his arms. Jonathan’ head moves close to my neck, and he takes in a deep breath. The wave of electricity that passes through me to him at that moment gives me a shiver.

I have never felt this comfortable with anyone, but with a dragon-shifter who says he’s a law man, I want to rest my head on his chest.

When the hug is over, I find that we are both looking at each other. Jonathan Justice can make any woman weak in the knees, and I’m no exception.

“Now, let me take you back home, Dr. Peters.” Jonathan says, calmly.

“Raina, you can call me Raina and thank you, Jonathan.”

He walks over to the door and opens it and waves his hand for me to walk through. As I pass him Jonathan’s presence is addictive. I’m secretly glad he’s coming to my home with me and it has nothing to do with wolves trying to kidnap me.

What did I agree too? I never let someone talk me into something, I always using my powers and insight as the keeper of the law to make decisions, not to mention the way her body felt against mine seemed right.

When we arrive back at Raina’s home, I do a walk through with her behind me, and I make sure there’s no one in the home, but I can smell the wolves from the last time they were here, trying to abduct Raina.

“Ok, it’s all clear. I guess you need that window fixed. If you don’t mind, I can fix it.” I say, looking for her response. I want to please her for some reason and that can either be a good thing or the worst thing ever.

“I can call a glass company to fix it, Jonathan.” She replies.

I look at her and wonder if she truly doesn’t realize how much her safety is important to me.

“Calling a company can’t happen, the less people, the better. Besides, I can do this, after all, not only do I keep the law, I also have the power to put things back together.”

I don’t wait for her to respond and I use my powers to lift the broken glass off the floor and piece by piece, in a matter of seconds, her window is fixed. I turn and look at Raina, and her mouth is open.

“Shit, you really are something…I’m lost for words, but I’m impressed that’s for sure.”

The fact that I was able to please Raina again, gave me pleasure. It’s like my heart instantly filled with joy after knowing I made her happy.

“I’m the best of the supers, Raina. Nothing can protect you like me.” I reply.

My words hold meaning to them, and it’s weird. I feel something for this human, barely knowing her, and more importantly, I’m still not sure what she is, but all human I’m sure she is not.

“Well, I need to report to work tonight, so I’ll go look over my emails from my colleagues.” She says, walking towards her upstairs.

I start following her when she turns around and looks at me with confusion.

“Jonathan, we are in the same house together you’ve checked my entire home, including the space under the sink, I think me reading notes on patients  can be done alone, besides remember I said HIPAA laws.”

I can’t help but laugh at her giving me a reminder of the human laws. Now don’t get me wrong, I respect the human laws, but I follow the laws that keep the supers in line.  I don’t care about her patients enough to look at their personal information, unless it will help me catch my brother Nathan. That’s a huge problem I need to solve.

“I will not look at your patients’ information but leaving you alone is not going to happen beautiful.”

She smiles at me and her honey eyes are like heaven. I wonder if she’s part angel, but she would know if she came from that, right?

“Thank you, Jonathan, umm…you can sleep in either of the guest rooms they are small, but it will get the job done.”

“I will not be sleeping until I’ve found my brother and made it safe for you.”

“You can’t do that, you have to sleep. We will work out something, but you not sleeping is unhealthy.”

“Raina, I’ve been the keeper of the law for over two hundred years, when someone is breaking our laws and on the loose, there’s no sleep until I have capture the person responsible. Besides I’m a dragon, I can handle this.”

She looks at me and places her hands on her hips.

“Then I’m going to tell you something as a doctor, I don’t care what species you are, all animals; humans, dogs, bears, bats and dragons need sleep. I may not know much about dragons, but you’re part human and we need sleep so you will sleep.”

She looks adorable worrying about me. I haven’t had anyone worry about me since the day I was appointed as a keeper. Even though she’s beautiful on the outside, her concern is beautiful as well.  I don’t want her to worry, so I must ease her mind.

“Raina, don’t worry, I’ll think of something so that I get some sleep and just so you know I appreciate you caring about me.”

I look into her eyes and she stares back at me, and in that moment, I want to kiss her. I take a step forward and then decide against it. I don’t want Raina to think that I would take advantage of her.

“I…I should go to my room and look at my messages and emails.” She says, quickly.

As she starts walking up the stairs, I allow her to get a few feet ahead of me before I start following her, all the while listening for any sign of an attack to abduct her again. Once we are in her room and she gets on her laptop, all her focus turns to whatever she’s reading. I take this moment to admire her even more, Especially the way she looks at the laptop, her face all serious. Raina is focused, and I want her to be able to do her job free of threats.

I allow my eyes to get a good look at her room, maybe I can find out more about her, even find out why she doesn’t smell human. She has beautiful art paintings on her walls, but they all are birds in the sky; night, morning, evening, rain, sun, yet all different birds. I look at her and I’m sure she’s not any species of bird shifter, maybe she likes birds a lot. Then I see a picture of her parents, when she’s a child, on her dresser. She doesn’t look like her father or mother. They both have blue eyes and blonde hair. She doesn’t have any features that would suggest that she is related to the people in the picture.

“Raina, are you an only child?” I ask.

She pauses a few seconds then responds.

“I was adopted, so I’m not sure.”

That explains why she doesn’t look like them, but this also would explain that she has no idea that she is not completely human. Her real parents gave her up, depriving her of any knowledge of her ancestors.

“I’m sorry, have you ever looked for your real parents?” I continue.

“There’s no need to be sorry, my parents, the ones who loved and nurtured me is enough for me, and no I will never look for my birth parents. They didn’t care enough to raise me and I don’t care who they are…I don’t want to talk about it, Jonathan.” She says, with hurt in her voice.

Even though she doesn’t want to talk about it, I can tell it’s a deep wound about her birth parents. I will not push though, respecting her wishes. I look at her bed, and it’s extremely large for such a small lady.

“Raina, you have a big bed for you being so small.” I say, admiring the bed and the things her and I could do in the bed together.

“And you are full of questions, I always feel different when I sleep and a big bed is something that helps me from hitting the floor. Now, I really need to read over this.” She points to her laptop and arches her brow at me.

I raise my hands in surrender, but I want to ask more questions.

I sit in silence for another hour, watching and wondering about Raina Peters. The longer I’m in the room, the more my desire for her increases. I’m drawn to her unlike any other female. The way she looks at the screen, her lips parted slightly. I tune in to her heart beat, which should be calm, but is racing. . Maybe my probing into her family upset her, I haven’t spent this much time with a human, but I know they love apologies.

“Raina I’m sorry for asking so many questions, you’re the first human I’ve spent this much time with.”

She looks at me, and I feel weak by the sight of her.

“It’s ok, I shouldn’t be so snappy, it’s that I put the idea of finding my birth parents away a long time ago… You know what I need? To take a bath and then I’ll make us some food, and we can talk before I go to work.”

“I don’t want to ever upset you, Raina, I want to please you.” Surprising myself by how much those words have meaning behind them.

I want to know her better in every sense, but I will not allow my selfish desires to cloud the real issue. She’s in danger because of me, and I need to make it safe for her. She stood from her desk and went to her door and opened it.

“You have to wait outside the door or go in the den and watch some TV or something, but I’m not letting you stay in here while I take a bath.”

I look at her, and my thoughts immediately go to what she would look like naked, relaxing in the bath.

“I…I will do this and be on the lookout for any suspicious noises or behavior outside. Watching the TV will never happen.”

I walk past her to get out of the room, the smell of her is intoxicating to my senses.

“Jonathan? Can I see your dragon?’” She asks.

I stop dead in my tracks, looking at her as a human and humans are afraid of supers, including dragons. I’m also not a pet dog. I’m the real deal, a dragon, and by sight alone, I could make you want to un-see my beast.

“Raina, if you see my dragon, you would never be able to feel comfortable with me again.”

“You don’t give me enough credit Jonathan. I think I can decide what I can and can’t handle and you’re telling me that you can change into a big dragon. Well, I think I deserve the chance to see said dragon.”

My beast inside claws to touch her but I keep him under control.

“If there’s time I may show you my beast, but no promises, now take your bath and I’ll be close by.”

She smiles and then closes the door. I hear the water turn on and I decide I would check out her refrigerator. I’m hungry and need food before she cooks, but it will not stop me from eating what she decides to make.

I decide on the box of cereal and take it to her door and sit outside and wait for her to open it. As I’m eating, I listen for any sign of other supers, but there’s nothing and that’s weird. Nathan, my brother, has his mind set on abducting Raina. He’s not going to give up that easy. I finish the box off and stand, waiting for Raina to finish. I’m anxious to be back in her presence and that’s not good. When I hear the bathroom door open, I decide to come back in, thinking she would be dressed. I open the door and walk in, finding her with a towel wrapped around her wet and sexy body. I immediately turn my head, not wanting her to think I’m a creeper.

“I’m sorry, I thought you would be dressed.”

“Jonathan, you have a lot to learn about human women.”

I want to take her in my arms and kiss her until she can’t take anymore, but for now I’ll step out and wait.

“I’ll be in the hall waiting.”

“Thank you.”

While waiting in the hall, I tell myself to get my emotions in check. I can’t be distracted with Raina. She’s human and possibly something more, but my only concern right now is to make it safe for her and then go back to making sure the laws among the supers are kept.

When Raina opens the door, she’s dressed in jeans and a shirt, but I can’t help remember her wet body as she walked out after her bath.

“Are you ready for the easy dish I cook?” She asks, smiling.

“Yes, I am.”

I stand in the kitchen and watch her get the food started and then she comes to sit with me.

“Jonathan, thank you for protecting me, I’m not sure how I can repay you.”

“There is no need to repay me Raina, and besides I like protecting you.”

She blushes, and it’s sexy to see her face turn red. It’s been awhile since I’ve been with a female sexually and being this close to Raina all that need is rushing forward.

“Tell me, do you date?” She asks, getting up to check on the noodles.

“I don’t have time to date, although I would like to change that.”

I shouldn’t have said that out loud, but it’s true. I miss female companionship.

“Do you think you’ll ever find love?” she sets a plate down in front of me with some kind of dish, but it smells good. So, I’ll eat it.

“I hope to find my true mate, we believe in true mates. It would be beautiful to find her.”

“Wow, that’s amazing that you believe in waiting for that one special someone. Humans, we don’t have true mates, we believe that if you find that special guy that he becomes the true mate.”

“That’s only because you don’t know what it means to have someone special created especially for you.”

“What if you never find her?”

“Then I’ll come find you.” She stops eating and looks up at me.

I need her to know that I find her attractive and not only in looks.

“Jonathan, I’m human, and if I was to be in your world I would choose you, but it would only make things complicated to become involved.”

“I agree,”

“Look at the time, my shift will be starting soon.”

I know she’s trying to change the subject, but I can tell she desires me like I do her. She stands and tries to walk away, but I can’t let her go that easy.

I stand and take her hand slowly, bringing it to my mouth and kiss it softly. That simple touch of her hand on my lips sends a shock wave through my body. I kiss her again and her mouth opens slightly, then she moves closer to me.

“What are we doing?”  She asks breathlessly.

“I’m kissing your beautiful hand and would like more.”

I should pull away and let her pretend we don’t have a connection, but my beast will not allow me to do it.

“Jonathan…”

“One kiss and I’ll never ask again.”

Maybe if I kiss her, these feelings will go away, and I can move forward.

She moves closer and wraps her arms around my neck. She’s much shorter than me so I pick her up, bringing her face to mine and crash my lips to hers.

This kiss is wild and raw. She’s kissing me back with her hands in my hair moaning. I continue to kiss her, sucking her tongue in between breaths and still it feels like it’s not enough. I want to be inside of Raina. My shaft is throbbing and expanding in my pants. We continue kissing each other a few more minutes before we stop. We both are panting and she doesn’t look at me, but I stare at her face trying to understand her even more.

“Raina Peters, you are a desirable woman, and if I over stepped by kissing you, I apologize.”

“Jonathan, I kissed you back, I wanted to, we obviously have an attraction to one another.”

“I can’t promise you that I’m not going to want to kiss you again, but next time I’ll ask you.”

She smiles and walks away from me. I look down at my pants and see I’m half erect and on the verge of bursting through my pants. I try to push it down, but it pops back up and I realize the only thing my body wants now is to be inside of Raina. This is going to make it difficult to protect her knowing that she wants me and I want her, but being vulnerable outside of my home is not a risk I can take for me or her.

After Raina changes into some slacks and puts on her white doctor coat she looks even sexier. The fact that she’s dedicated her life to helping others like me is amazing. I wish she was my true mate, because there would be nothing that could stop me from being with her including the fact that she is human.

When we arrive at the hospital, she tries to convince me that I can’t come in while she’s working, but I’m not having that.

“Dr. Peters, tell everyone I’m following you doing an article about you in my newspaper.

“What’s the name of your newspaper? Huh? Right, because it doesn’t exist and everyone will know that, besides I have a head doctor on the floor, I can’t do something like that without approval.”

“Let me worry about the name of the newspaper and your boss, it will be fine as long as you stay calm.”

“I am calm!” She yells, moving her arms all around.

She finally gives up, and we walk into the hospital together. This is going to be an interesting day.

Jonathan is not making it easy for me. Now he’s walking behind me looking for wolves or dragons or anything that might be trying to kidnap me. I wish he was a normal guy that I could date and maybe even have sex with… a lot, but he’s a dragon with duties he must take care of. Now that I know it’s his brother trying to kidnap me, it doesn’t set well with me.

I glance over my shoulder and see him watching me with those sexy eyes and even licking his lips. The lips I kissed and licked. The kiss we shared earlier has me wanting more, but it’s really not good that I want to have anything with Jonathan, for goodness sake he’s waiting on a true mate, something I have read in books and I’m a doctor who sees all types of things and the most important thing I’ve learned is life is short.

“Let me do the talking.” I say, as we walk inside the building.

“Of course, I’m observing for my newspaper remember.” He laughs.

I can’t help but smile at his joke. Once we are inside I’m getting a lot of strange looks, but nothing like when the chief comes into the doctors’ room and sees Jonathan in the back standing.

“Dr. Peters, I’ve been informed by many staff you have a guest with you today.” Dr. Lang says, looking at Jonathan.

“Yes, Dr. Lang, he’s doing an article on me and the hospital.” I respond nervously.

Jonathan smiles at me and then walks up to where Dr. Lang and I are speaking.

“Nice to meet you, Dr. Lang,” Jonathan reaches out his hand, but the chief looks at it and turns to me.

“He can’t stay. There is protocol for having reporters in the hospital, Dr. Peters. You know this and there will be a reprimand for this sort of thing.”

Jonathan looks him directly in the eyes, and for a few seconds, they are silent. Then Dr. Lang starts speaking again.

“Dr. Peters, this could be good for the hospital and may get more donations for the new wing. This was a great idea. You will be rewarded for this.” Dr. Lang says with excitement.

I look at Jonathan who smiles, but my other colleagues hurry out the room.

“What did you do?” I ask, concerned.

“I only went into his brain a few seconds and placed a more positive thought and decision.”

“You can’t do that, messing with someone’s brain is wrong.”

“To you, besides, I didn’t want to get you into trouble because I have to be here to protect you.”

“What else could go wrong with this day?” I mumble.

Picking up a couple of patient’s charts  I need to see, we both walk out to nurses looking in our direction and some doctors trying to ignore the weird situation.

When I think, things couldn’t get worse they do. As I’m writing down some notes before I enter the patient’s room, I look up and see a man watching me. He looks like he could be Jonathan’s brother and then it dawns on me it is Jonathan’s brother Nathan.

A few things happen, I turn and find Jonathan coming towards me fast, somehow everyone has completely stopped moving, and Nathan growls, and it scares me to the bone.

Quickly I’m pulled behind Jonathan as he makes himself my shield.

“Nathan, you can’t have her, and I will capture you.”

Nathan smiles and speaks.

“Brother, I came to make a deal with you, you are bound to uphold the law among the supers first. What if I give up my idea of taking over your region, but in return, you have to give me the pretty doctor.”

“Nathan, turn yourself in to me, and I promise to be fair and just with your punishment.”

“I take that is a no, have you slept with the human? Is this why you won’t make this deal with me?”

“Nathan, you have broken more laws than just trying to take a human, and for what purpose I have no clue, but you also are trying to over throw me and that has serious consequences brother, surrender.” Jonathan demands.

His body is tense, and I’m nervous they will start fighting and kill a couple of humans in the process.

“I will never surrender, you should know that is not possible, but I will need the girl big brother. I only came here to warn you, not fight with you.”

“I’m the only one who will give out a warning, you turn yourself in now and I will spare you, I’m not sure why you’re doing this brother, this is not you.”

In that moment, it’s like Nathan senses something and turns and looks towards the rooms of the patients. I watch in horror, hoping he doesn’t mean to do anything to them. I certainly can’t stand by and let him.

“Leave my patients alone you asshole!” I yell at him.

He turns his attention back to me and smiles.

“Raina, darling, there’s no need for name calling, besides you might like…”

He stops talking like he was about to say something he didn’t want anyone to know.

He looks again down the hall, and the look on his face is confusion.

“Nathan, leave now, before I strike you right here.” Jonathan snaps.

“I’m leaving brother, but consider my offer and nice to see you, Raina Peters.” Nathan says, wickedly.

He disappears before my eyes and Jonathan’s body is still tense and solid like a rock. He turns to me and then everyone starts moving again like nothing happen.

“Raina, I need to get you out of here, it’s not safe. He came here specifically to let you know who he is.” Jonathan says.

“I can’t run and besides, did you see him looking at the rooms of my patients? What if he’s going to hurt them? I won’t allow that to happen.”

I pick up my chart even though my hands are shaking and I’m nervous. I swallow my fear and walk in the room of my first patient for the evening.

As the day went on well into the evening, Jonathan remains silent. Barely even responding when I had a break and grabbed some food, he declined to even eat. Jonathan’ face is no longer friendly, it’s stoic, there’s no emotion at all.

As it becomes later in the evening and the ER starts to calm down, I decide to go to the lounge and relax. Jonathan comes in and doesn’t take a seat.

“Hey, it’s ok, your brother hasn’t returned Jonathan.”

He stops and looks at me like I said a nasty word.

“My brother is not sitting around Raina, he’s planning his next move. Trust me, he plans on trying to take you, and we are here in this place begging to be attacked.”

“Look, can you defeat your brother?”

He looks at me in a way that says what do you think.

“Ok then, we need to find out what distracted him when he was here. That’s our weapon.”

“Weapon? Raina, no human can be a weapon.”

“How do we know it was a human and don’t under estimate the power of human women, we have caused wars for centuries.”

“Raina, I don’t want to debate this, what time does your shift end?”

I look at the clock and then at my cranky dragon.

“I’ll be done in four more hours.”

“What? No, you need to say you’re sick and need to leave for a few days, maybe even a week off.”

“I can’t do that, Jonathan. I understand your brother is dangerous, but with you around, I’ll be safe.”

He looks at me, and a softness comes over his face for the first time since his brother showed up. It’s refreshing to know the guy I kissed is still in there.

“I’m glad you feel safe with me, but I have to think about you in a cross fight, you will be unprotected and no match for any of the others he will bring with him. I can protect myself, but in this environment, it’s not safe. Please Raina, if you want to stay alive to be a doctor you need to leave now so I can get you some place safe.”  He pleads.

I know that Jonathan is right, I must think about the big picture. My patients need me, but I should take care of myself, so I can continue to be of help to them.

“If I let you take me some place safe, do I have to be locked in a room?” I ask.

“No, you could roam around, but I will have limits only for safety reasons.”

I nod a yes, and he showed genuine happiness. I informed my boss of my absence and told him why and I’m not sure if Jonathan persuaded him with his dragon eye hypnosis, but he agreed with no problems. After updating my cover for the rest of the night, he and I left.

“Can we stop by my house so I can get a few things?”

Jonathan is driving, looking in his mirror and everywhere his eyes would allow.

“Human cars are the devil you can’t properly see around you.” He complains.

“Are you going to ignore me asking to go by my home?”

“I’ll go get your things once I’ve secured you.”

I look out the window because I can tell he’s not going to change his mind.

He turns off the main road, and now we’re on a dirt road traveling at a high speed.

“Jonathan, I think we are going too fast.” I say, pushing my body back in the seat hard. I begin to brace myself for an impact because there are lots of trees around.

“I can’t fly home like I usually do and I need the speed before I open the portal.”

Before I have a chance to answer we are going into a hole that swallows us whole. I scream and cover my eyes not wanting to see my death.

“It’s ok Raina, open your eyes it’s safe.”

I open my eyes, and it’s beautiful, I turn and look behind me, and the gate closes and then disappears.

“Are we still on earth?” I ask, looking around as we drove up to this place I assume is his home. It looks mostly a place for outdoor living, but it has attachments for indoor living as well.

“Yes we are on earth, but this is a place for me to live and be safe from all supers. Unless they are invited, they can’t get in. It’s also a place hidden from humans. It allows me to be in my dragon form worry free.”

We arrive at the front, and he gets out and comes to open my door.

“Raina, welcome to my home. While here you are welcome to everything, please make yourself at home.”

I smile at him, and he smiles back making my heart melt. This is the guy I like. When he’s focused, there is no room for smiling. He waves me forward, and I walk into the massive home, where the windows are floor to ceiling and there are even openings with no windows. The floor is covered in a gorgeous tile like nothing I’ve ever seen before. He has paintings of people on his wall.

I continue walking and Jonathan follows behind me watching my every move. I stop at the monument in the middle of the house surrounded by a water fountain, but the water was deep blue.

“Who’s the monument of?” I keep my eyes on the huge wings attached to a human man body, it’s hands and legs are that of a dragon’s bottom, but the top is all human and I must say even in this clay like piece, he looks handsome.

“That’s one of my famous ancestors who served as keeper of the law for over 500 years of capturing unlawful supers, he’s well known among our kind.” Jonathan says with pride.

“What’s his name?”

“Jonlou Justice, and trust me if he was around Nathan would have been caught regardless if humans got hurt or not!

“Come let me get you settled, I have a huge tub that you can relax in with some wine, and you don’t have to worry about me lurking, you’re safe.”

Jonathan and I walked hand and hand to the area designated for bathing. I feel like a princess in this beautiful place.

“Have fun Raina, food will be ready once you have finished with your bath.” Jonathan leans down and gives me a kiss on my cheek and I feel weak all through my body.

“See you in a while.”

He leaves and I look around at this tub fit for a queen. I start undressing when a woman entering the room scares me.

“Dr. Raina Peters, here are towels, soaps and oils. I also will be bringing wine to you. Would you care for anything else?”

“Yes, can I have some soft music and what’s your name?”

“Of course, the music will be a nice touch, and I’m Wina, your servant,” She replies.

“Oh no honey, I don’t need a servant if that’s what Jonathan told you then he was wrong, thank you for getting all this for me Wina.”

She nods and leaves the room. I think no matter what I told her she’s going to obey Jonathan as it’s his home. I wonder if she’s a dragon too or wolf, or maybe something even more supernatural.

I let all my troubles go away once I’m in the water, music fills the room, and I enjoy my wine.

When I walk out of the room after my bath wearing a robe, I walk toward the sound of Jonathan’s voice, finding him in a room with comfy lounges and trays of food.

“Mother, I’m going to find out more about Nathan and be in touch soon.”

His voice is gentle. I walk in more and he turns and looks at me from head to toe.

“I have to go. I’ll talk to you soon.” He gets up and walks toward me smiling.

“You were talking with your mom about your brother, how’s she taking it that her son is causing trouble?”

He looks at me and then pulls me towards the lounge.

“Like a mother would, but let’s not talk about that. After I get you settled, I will go and find my brother.”

Jonathan has me take a seat on the lounge he was on and starts making me a plate of food.

“Do you know where to look?’

“I can always find my brother, we are connected by blood, he knows this.”

“If he knows this then he’s going to be ready for you.” I say concerned.

“Raina relax, he can’t hurt me now that I know you’re safe, besides even if he had a hundred supers, they know I will kill them all to get to him.”

Hearing the words kill makes me take a bite of bread trying to ignore the word. Even though I know he does this, I didn’t want to hear it.

He sits down on the floor beside me and places my feet in his lap. He looks at me and I’m sure it’s desire I see in his eyes. As he’s rubbing my feet he looks me in the eyes, and for some reason I become bashful and turn my head.

“Raina, I find that your unique and I like that about you and I think you like me, but me being a dragon is holding you back.”

“I thank you for the compliment and with you being a dragon and I am human, what happens if you leave or…”

As I’m speaking Jonathan raises his body and leans over me barely touching my lips.

“What if you allow me to please you and we forget about the human dragon thing?”

Raising my hand to his face and caressing him, he turns into my hand and kisses it. My breathing has picked up and I want this with him even if it doesn’t work out, my body wants to be with him.

I lean up and kiss him and a growl comes from deep within him and it’s all animal and I like it.

He starts kissing me and leans down on top of my body as I relax on the lounge. He continues to kiss me passionately, undoing my robe using his hands to squeeze my breasts. I want him so badly. He picks me up with one hand and I wrap my legs around his waist as he walks us over to a wider, longer lounge in front of the fire place. He places me on the soft cushions kissing me and letting his hands explore my body. It feels amazing to have him touch me everywhere. He leans down and starts sucking on my breasts, licking and nipping me causing me to moan loudly in pleasure.

He stands and undresses and he’s completely naked like me. He starts kissing my neck, breasts, stomach until he reaches my clit. He licks it slow, swirling his tongue around it skillfully. I scream and pull his hair needing him inside of me, but he doesn’t budge to my demand.

His tongue moves further down and he pushes it inside of me, my eyes roll back into my head and I can’t even scream, that’s how good he’s making me feel.

“Raina!” He whispers.

My body responds to him at will, I’ve never been this hot for another man.

“Jonathan please, I need you inside of me.” I beg.

He pulls one leg onto his shoulder and positions his shaft at my entrance and in a single move he pushes inside me and I scream from the way my body is stretching and by how much I want him.

He gets into a groove and I’m meeting him with every thrust in and out, in and out.  My legs start to shake and he slows down stopping my release.

“Not yet, my dear.” He growls.

He stares back up, this time allowing me to wrap my legs around him and he goes slow and it feels like I’m falling into an abyss of pleasure.

He picks up the pace again and I can feel the orgasm building up inside me again.

“Now Raina!” He forces out.

“Ahhhhh…” I don’t hold back, allowing everything to be released and Jonathan follows with his own release.

I’m the only one panting, but I’m not tired, he positions himself behind me and I find myself falling asleep with his arms wrapped around me. This is something I could get used to.

NATHAN

This shit is going to be harder than I thought. My calm and reasonable brother gave me a death look which could mean he’s really pissed at me or he likes Raina Peters. I’ll never let them be together, Raina will be mine!

When I saw them at the hospital together, I could have taken her then, but she would have ended up dead with my brother and I fighting. Jonathan is always about making things right, and I love shaking things up. Why the fuck not? He and I are only a year apart, but that means so much more in my family. The first born can be chosen to be the Keeper, it also means everything goes to the first born and all other siblings get what the oldest says. This thing between my brother and I goes way back to our childhood home.

Now he’s going to be coming after me, and I’ll be ready.

I’m sitting outside my home that I had my witch friend spell for me in exchange for some of my dragon scales.

“Hey boss, the pack has surrounded your brother’s place in case they can get in.” Xar says. He’s my trusted friend and when I can’t believe anyone I know he will always tell me the truth. “Nathan, you do know your brother is stronger, faster and has more powers? He’s going to kill us all for what we are trying to do, besides he has feelings for the human.”

“I know he’s better than me and thanks for the confidence. The wolves will die first, and while he comes for me, this will give you a chance to get Raina and bring her to me.”

“Every pack of wolves in this world will hate you if you allow Moon Beast’s pack to die.”

I glare at Xar and would like to rip open his throat with all his care for the wolves, they mean nothing to me, but I can’t do that. Not only is Xar my true friend, he’ll make sure to bring the human to me.

“Are you a dragon or are you a wolf? Because from the way you talk you sound like you’re a wolf.” I snap.

“I’m a dragon, but I’m aware of the shit you’ve put us in because of your hatred for your brother.”

“I don’t hate my brother, Xar, he needs to be taught a lesson. He left me in our land to watch over our parents, like I’m not capable of doing what he does. I deserved a higher position, so I’ll take it and rip him down from being a Keeper.”  I chuckle at the sight of seeing my brother Jonathan, the great keeper of the law, losing it all.

What no one knows is Raina Peters is his true mate and comes from a long line of dragons. After so many generations, she’s now considered human, but she has dragon traits. I had the same witch who protects my whereabouts also put a spell on Raina, blocking anyone from picking up the scent of dragon blood within her and any memories of her dreaming of dragons.

She can mate with a dragon and bare his children. I plan to unlock that side of her and mate with her, having dragon babies with her instead of Jonathan. I can’t let them become mated, their children will be next in line to rule our land. Per tradition, the next dragon/human who mates with a dragon will be the rulers of the land. Well, no fucking way I’m allowing that shit. I will never be able to be seen for who I am.

Now everything is falling into place, except when I was in the hospital I could have sworn…that would make this even more difficult. This must be some kind of joke, some cruel joke. I must go and check it out for myself.

As I’m walking back into the house, I see Harold walking towards me. The little fuck got himself caught.

Soon as he’s within arm’s reach, I grab him by the throat slam him to the ground,  placing my foot on his chest.

“Tell me again how you got caught, because I know my instructions were clear and because you didn’t listen, my brother has the girl he was never supposed to know about, you fucking idiot. “

I can hear him choking and feel his claws on my foot. He’s no match for me, so I’m sure when he was with my brother, he told him something.

I lift my foot some, and he tries to get up and press him back down.

“Stay down, Harold. I’m trying to decide if you should live or not. What did you tell my brother?”

I raise my foot allowing him to speak.

“Nathan, I didn’t say anything only that it was you trying to take over.”

Does he not understand that was a huge piece? My brother, granted, would have found out, but this pushed everything much faster than I had intended.

“Harold, because you told him it was me, he then knew how to contact me. Please go guard his home outside like the others.”

“He will slaughter us for being so close.” Harold pleads.

“Not my problem, you informed him about me too early, now I’m having to make do, besides what do you think will happen if you stay here?”

I can hear him swallow hard and see his eyes change to beast, so I lean down, allowing my beast to growl and he pulls back his wolf. I lift my foot and Harold takes off running.

When I reach the house, everyone is quiet and I’m ok with the silence. I’m the bad brother right now, but once I rule I will show them that I will be fair like my brother. I can show mercy but it’s not what’s needed in this situation.

“Xar, I’m going to make a quick run right now, I’ll be back.” I say.

“Nathan, it’s not safe for you, Jonathan is going to be hunting you right now.” He says, concerned.

“He will not be looking for me yet, I’m sure he wants to make sure the doctor is safe.” I reply.

I don’t wait for him to respond. I need to go back to the hospital.  I change into a black suit and leave for the hospital. I need to know if it’s true.

***

I arrive at the hospital and find everything is normal. I’m able to get back in the ER with ease. I start walking down the hall and the scent is strong. My beast is uneasy and would like out. I eventually reach the room and I’m struck with electricity going through my body and when I push the door open her eyes lock with mine.

“Hello.”

“Hello,” She responds and coughs. She’s sick.

“What’s your name?” I ask, walking towards her to get a better look, even though my eyesight is perfect, I can’t believe it.

“I’m Vilora Panka, and you are the man in my dreams.”

“You’ve been dreaming about me?”

“Every night for over two months, what’s your name?”

“I’m Nathan Justice.”

I’m lost for words, she’s my true mate, and she’s all human. She can’t get me the power I need.

She reaches her hand out for me, and I take it even though I shouldn’t, but when her hand is in mine, I feel a calmness I’ve never felt in my life. I look at her soft brown hair and her beautiful green eyes, they are hypnotic.

“I feel like I’ve known you forever. Do you feel the same about me?”

“Why are you here in the hospital?” I ask, truly concerned.

“I been sick with the flu for over a week and I can’t take it anymore.”

She’s sick, my true mate is sick, this is horrible. I can’t give her what she will need and that’s going to rip her heart apart. She can feel that we should be together like I do, but I will suppress this need and follow through with my plan.

“I’m sorry you’ve been sick Vilora. I hope you feel better soon.” I say truly meaning it.

“Thank you, Nathan, are you nervous about something?”

“Why do you say that?”

“I’m not sure, but it feels so odd. It’s like I can feel your emotions and you seem nervous.”

Shit, shit, triple shit. She’s showing all the signs a true mate would feel if they found each other, but I can’t give her what she wants, which is me. I’m going to mate with Raina and rule and I can’t do that with Vilora.

“I’m sorry for being here, but I can’t stay, I need to go.”

“Will you come back? I feel like we were supposed to meet.”

“We were, but I will not be able to come back Vilora. Please try to forget me.”

As I say the words to her, my heart feels like a small crack has started. I see her eyes fill with tears and she looks at me confused. I hate to be this way, but it’s the only way.

I walk to the door and walk away without turning around to see the tears fall. This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life. I walked away from my true mate and I’m not sure if this is the right thing, but I know I can’t give up now. I’ve taken a stand and even if it kills me, I will stand up to Jonathan.

I leave the hospital and as I’m on my way home it begins to rain and I’m sure it’s raining because I walked away from my mate, breaking her heart and denying the fact that we are meant to be together. So, because of all that, I allow the rain to fall on me, ruining my suit. Once I get home I’m going to forget about Vilora and go get Raina. She will be my mate.

When I arrive at the house Xar looks at me, all wet, and frowns wondering why I didn’t call for a car or do something to get out of the rain. I walk past him without a word, I’m too afraid that if I open my mouth to speak I might yell out in pain from my breaking heart. Vilora’s smell is engraved in my head and that will at least allow me to find her in the future if she’s ever in trouble or needs anything. I will always make sure she never goes without, that’s my promise.

After I get in my room, I undress and shower allowing all those feelings to wash down the drain. Then I stepped out and looked at the blueprint of my brother’s home. I know it’s protected and I can’t walk right in, but if I can get him out maybe I can weaken him long enough to get Raina. His home is protected if he’s ok but if he gets hurt enough, that could cause unconsciousness which would be perfect for me.

When I look closely at the plans I try to think of where she would be and then it dawns on me, in Jonathan’s eye sight.

“Xar! “I yell for him.

He slowly comes walking into my room with annoying look on his face.

“Nathan, are you ready?” He simply asks.

“I’m more than ready Xar, time to take my brother’s rule and Raina.”

Xar nods and goes to prepare some of the vamps and witches that have joined my cause to stop the Keeper of the Law.

JONATHAN

Raina and I have been carrying on like I don’t have to fight my brother who is trying to take over through me and kidnap her. As I sit watching Raina sleep in my bed, naked and smiling while she sleeps, it’s a beautiful sight.

I should not have let it go this far, being with a human is not something I can do with my job, she will never be safe. I will always be trying to keep her safe and I don’t think she will like being locked up.

I decide to call home to inform my mother and father of Nathan’s doings while here on earth.

“Mother, nice to hear your voice.” I say.

“Jonathan my son, I’ve missed you.” My mother, Gwela Justice, replies.

“This call is not going to be pleasant mother, but I feel like you and father should know.”

“If it’s concerning Nathan, I know it’s not good. I don’t need the details and neither does your father. I would like to remember my sweet boy as he was and I know what you do my son; it’s what you were called to do. So have no worries about what your father and I may think. We know you are fair.” She says.

These words eased my mind. Nathan is my only brother and it tears me apart knowing that I’m going to have to end him. I’m not even sure if I can when the time comes, he’s my brother and we are bonded more than blood. I can’t picture life without him and yet, I need to come to grips that I’m going to lose my brother because of this position I was put in, I wish things could be different.

“Thank you, Mother for your wise and comforting words. I need to go now, but I hope to see you soon.”

“I love you son and always keep the law sacred.”

“Always!” I reply.

Then our connection is gone. I truly miss home and wish I could show Raina where I come from, but she would not be welcomed.

When I look up, I see Raina looking at me with sad eyes. I walk over to the bed and sit next to her brushing her hair out of her face.

“Why are you sad? I promised you that I would not allow my brother to do any harm to you.”

She takes a deep breath and then speaks.

“I know what you promised and I believe you Jonathan, but you will lose something,” A tear falls from her face and I wipe it away. “Your brother, despite how bad or evil he may be, he’s still your brother. You grew up together and know each other very well it seems. I heard your conversation with your mother and I can see it’s tearing you up to have to hurt your brother. I’m sorry for you and I’m sorry that you will lose a brother, but if there’s any way you can save his life, please do so, I believe in second chances and maybe your brother could become a better dragon.”

Raina Peters has shocked me. Never would I have thought she would have compassion about someone who is trying to do her harm, but because she knows it’s my brother and it’s going to hurt me deeply to take his life, Raina has said that I should maybe spare his life.

“You don’t need to worry about me or my brother. Yes, this will be difficult to do, but I will do it because I have to make things right, my brother knew the end result if he went down this road to over throw me. He’s made it clear and I must set an example so others will not try this. Thank you for your compassion towards me, but also to my brother who you don’t even know. You are an angel to me and I will never forget it.”

Raina leans up and the covers fall around her waist exposing her breasts. She pulls my head close to hers to kiss me. The kiss is gentle and sweet and because she’s so irresistible I start kissing her neck, breasts and her inner things. I should taste her again, but I must get going.

“Damn Raina, I could stay here with you forever, but I must go search for my brother.” I rest my head on her leg.

“I understand, you must go and get your brother and like I said if there’s a way to save his life try, not only for him, but for you.”

With those words, I rise, kiss her on the forehead and make my way out of the room.

Once I leave Raina I go straight into my armory room and get ready for battle. I put on my boots that contain a poison that paralyzes you instantly if I were to kick you. I grab a ton of my neck rings that keeps you in place until I release you. I also place my sword on my back and take a few more power elements used on supers.

I step out of my door and stand on the stoop and I can smell the wolves around my home. They can’t see me or even know that I’m aware that they are there. My brother has sent them to be slaughtered like meat, but I will not slaughter them. They have aligned with an enemy, but I think punishment instead of death will do.

One of my servants comes down the steps and is standing next to me holding my gun for witches.

“Thank you!” I simply reply and she’s gone.

The idea that my brother would attempt to challenge me is not adding up, he knows I will win, but maybe he’s trying to get to Raina while we are fighting. That I will not allow, Raina will be protected. I run back in and take precautions in case someone breaches my protective shield surrounding my compound.

RAINA

Can I be falling for a dragon? I’ve had sex with him twice and it didn’t feel weird, it was the best sex I’ve ever had. I feel so comfortable with Jonathan. He’s easy to talk with and he has this huge heart that makes him even sexier, and he believes in doing what’s right.

I get ready to climb out of the bed and my legs are so sore, and my body is sore, but I can make it to his bath. I start running the water when I see a note on the counter, put these beads in your water, it will help with the soreness. He knew I would be sore and he left me something to help. I put the pretty shiny white beads in the water and they burst into an oil with smoke coming from out of the water. It looks magical. I climb in and relax and begin thinking, if Jonathan and I could have a chance at being together. Then reality sets in and reminds me that we can’t because he’s a dragon and I’m a human who will die long before he does.

After I get out the bath, I look in the mirror and I can’t help but smile. Then I notice my eyes getting bright just like Jonathan’s eyes do. That’s weird, but I guess when you have as much sex as he and I did, side effects are bound to happen.

I dress in the clothes that Jonathan retrieved for me. I put on my favorite t-shirt and some jeans. I walk out of the room and there is a lady standing there.

“Who are you?”

“I’m here to make sure you don’t leave the house until Mr. Justice returns.”

“I’m not a prisoner.” I snap.

“No you’re not, but our leader is fighting and when he fights he allows his beasts to take over, he will not be able to distinguish you from those who try to attack him.”

“What’s your name?”

“I don’t have a name, I’m the servant of the Keeper of the Law and that is name enough.”

She’s weird and creepy.

“Ok, I was going to go to the kitchen to get food.” I say.

She nods and we both walk to the kitchen. She doesn’t speak and after a few minutes I forget she’s there.

I start eating the breakfast prepared for me, when I hear a loud bang and a growl that shakes the house. I know in my gut that it is Jonathan.

I take off running and just as I’m about to step outside, the no name bitch pulls me back. I scream and scratch at her, but her grip is too tight. As my frustration grows, I let out a loud growl that even scares me.

I couldn’t believe I did that and neither could the no name servant. She turns me around and her eyes get big.

“OMG! You’re one of the chosen.”

“What are you talking about? I need to get out there.”

She walks me over to a mirror and my eyes are not only glowing they look like dragon eyes. I examine them, wondering how this coule be, then I look at her and she said I’m one of the chosen.

“What am I chosen for?”

“You are one of the human dragons.”

She’s lost her mind. The fact that I slept with a dragon is the only reason this is happening. I’m sure Jonathan didn’t know having sex with a human could have this effect.

“I’m not a dragon, but I would like to know that Jonathan is, ok. Is there a way to find out?”

She looks at me strange then she replies.

“If the Keeper of the Law gets hurt, this compound gets weak or fully unprotected. If that were to happen, we will all be dead.”

That’s great, not only is he out there risking his life for me and possibly killing his brother; there is a chance that we all could die if he gets hurt. I don’t like this scenario.

“Since you will not allow me to step outside, then I guess you and I will wait and hope for the best.”

I go to sit on the floor, but she pulls one of the most elegant chairs I’ve ever seen from the wall.

“Please take this seat.” I sit and notice she’s standing looking at the door like me. I wonder if she’s as nervous as I am. I want Jonathan to stay alive.

Besides I think I’m falling for him and I need to be able to tell him that face to face. I’ve never been this way with a guy. Never wanted more with a guy, but for some reason Jonathan makes me want to be with him. I need for him to stay alive so I can at least tell him how I feel. We may not be together because of the obvious reasons, but I want him to know I appreciate the emotions he’s awoken inside of me. Plus the growling must be explained.

JONATHAN

The wolves try to attack me as soon as I’m out from behind the protective barrier. I bring out my neck rings and start slinging them around their necks and one by one they were all sitting still. Once I had them all sitting, the look on their faces is relief. I guess they assumed I would kill them all for attacking me, but I know my brother is forcing these wolves.

That’s no excuse, they could have come to me when my brother approached, but now they must be punished as well.

I look at them and as I’m about to leave I hear the growl of a dragon coming from my home. The sound should not be coming from any of my workers, even though most are dragons and would not growl in the house.

I replay the sound in my head and it sounds like Raina, but how can that be she’s human, I’m sure.

I glance at my home and wonder what she could be growling about. I know my servants will protect her. I need to go find my brother and end this.

I go to the field and allow my beast to come forth. With my arms spread wide and my head in the sky I transform into my dragon. It’s not long before I’m fully turned into what would be a nightmare to most. When I transform all my weapons and clothes disappear, but once in human form I will have my weapons again.

I make myself invisible and start flying away from my home. As I’m flying I use my senses to track my brother. When we were young my mother made it so, that we could always find each other. She had us do a ritual that tied us together in case we needed one another, but I can also use this to locate him if he’s doing bad things.

As I get closer to Nathan’s compound I can smell his scent, but it feels like he’s not here. I land and his compound has been spelled, interesting the witches would side with a dragon, he must have promised them something, but what could they want from Nathan?

I look around and see a set of wolves coming towards me in one direction and Vampires in another. I throw my neck rings around the wolves and I decide the vampires were not being spared. I take off, meeting the vampires head on and start ripping their heads off quickly to end it. I realize Nathan is not here and the only other place he would go is my compound.

I fly quickly home and find Nathan outside my compound looking at the wolves.

“Nathan, you will not take her.” I snap.

I hear the growl again and I’m sure it’s Raina, but why does she growl like a dragon. I would have smelled the dragon blood in her, she would have known herself.

“I guess I can tell you now, Raina has dragon blood in her and I’m going to make her my mate.” Nathan growls loudly.

He starts to transform into dragon and before I could try to talk some sense into him. He is shooting fire at me. I fly high in the air, getting Nathan away from the wolves, who can’t run from harm’s way.

He starts blowing flames again at me and I start returning fire. I try to reach him telepathically, but every time I try to touch his mind I feel heartbreak and anguish. This is not about me or Raina, my brother is truly hurting on the inside.

“Nathan, stop this! I don’t want to kill you.” I try to touch his mind again.

“Get out of my mind asshole, fight me!” He yells back and my head feels like an explosion.

I start shooting fire at Nathan, the fire hits him, but he keeps flying. He turns and tries to hit me and misses, which makes him fly towards me fast. I start firing at him and soon he’s firing at me again. He’s trying to really do damage to me. I can’t believe my brother would hurt me, yet it seems that’s his intentions.

The clouds get dark and I can hear the thunder rolling as Nathan crashes into me and we both hit the ground rolling, destroying everything in our path. Nathan hits me with fire and the pain is intense. I look and see the shield waver slightly.

Nathan looks at me with a wicked grin and I look at my home and back at him. The shield becoming weak is a way for someone to enter and take Raina. They will not be expecting the no name servants I hired, they are the assassins of our land.

“You’ll never see her again.” Nathan teases.

I blow fire at him and it catches him off guard. I continue my assault knowing I will kill him if I don’t stop. I think about Raina’s words and I stop. Nathan lies unconscious on the ground. I quickly change back to human form and go to pick up my brother when two witches come from the woods and start chanting something that gives me pain.  I pull out my chains and throw them towards them. It hits them both taking them down on the ground. It doesn’t allow them to practice, but it also puts them to sleep.

I pick up Nathan and walk back into my compound. I can tell Raina is still in the home. I sit my brother down on the bench and throw a dragon chain on him. It will keep him from transforming and drains him of strength.

I run to where I can hear Raina yelling at someone. When I arrive, I find Nathan’s right hand man Xar fighting with one of my no names. When Raina sees, me she runs into my arms.

“Jonathan.” She says, and starts crying.

When Xar is in dragon chains he sighs and then looks at me.

“Kill me Keeper of the Law, I don’t deserve to live.”

I don’t respond to him, but to my no name.

“Take him and get some help with the wolves and witches outside. Nathan is to be taken to the cell I use for high authority.”

She nods and drags Xar with little effort.

“Raina, I’m so glad you’re safe, I was worried they had gotten to you.”

“Jonathan, not too long ago I felt something lift off my chest and it was like I could feel you.”

“Yes, we must talk Raina. I’ve found out some information that you need to know.”

I pick her up and walk with her to my room. I will deal with all the others later, right now Raina needs to know what she truly is.

Once I have placed her in a sitting position on the bed. I kiss her on the cheek and then look her in the eyes.

“Raina, you’re from a line of dragons, and…”

“I know that, the no name girl told me, but what I’m trying to understand is why I feel like I need you.”

As soon as she says that I can feel my body heating up for her. My beast growls out and the words true mate screams from my soul. I look at her and she’s rocking back and forth.

“Raina, I think you’re my mate and I think you know this as well.”

“I feel something Jonathan, but I’m not sure if I can deal with all this violence.”

She looks at me and I knew that she wanted to get away, now that she knows that I’m ok.

“Raina…”

“I think this all is too much, learning about my bloodline means my birth parents knew and I need to be alone in my human home.”

“Yes, of course, anything you need. I can take you.”

“Can you have one of the no names take me please? I can’t think when I’m around you, all I want to do is kiss you and do all sorts of things.”

I wanted her to kiss me and do whatever she wants to with me, that’s what true mates do. Even though it’s physically hurting me not to make love to Raina, I will respect her wishes.

She stands and walks towards the door.

“I will have one waiting for you and don’t worry everything is safe now.”

“Thank you Jonathan and this isn’t goodbye.”

When she closed the door it felt like my world split in two. Now I can deal with all traitors including my brother.

RAINA

As soon as I walk into my home I feel sick. I miss him already, but I need to process the fact that I’m this dragon human, and why did my parents abandon me, what could be their reason?

I walk in and the tears start flowing like a dam has broken. The hurt of knowing my parents didn’t want me, to know who I truly was is beyond hurtful. I walk into my kitchen and get the bottle of wine off my counter. I need to drink and cry.

I know that Jonathan wanted me to stay and I wanted to too, but he still must decide if he’ll kill his brother and God knows what he’ll do with the others. Do I want to be in a world with dragons, wolves, witches and vampires? I’m not sure if my world and Jonathan’s world could ever work.

I sit down on the couch in front of the TV and drink and cry watching the movie ‘The Notebook’.

I’m not sure when, but eventually the TV is watching me and I fall asleep with tears rolling down my face.

The next morning, I decide that I should go to work, but every time I get up off the couch to get clothes on I think of the special times Jonathan and I had together. I’ve never met a man so kind and caring in my life. Even though he’s so sweet, he also can and will protect me from anything that tries to harm me. Every woman would want that, but Jonathan also is a dragon and law person in the world he lives in.

I decide to call my mom.

“Hey Raina baby, how’s the good doctor doing?”

I smile because hearing her voice gives me comfort.

“I’m doing ok, how are you doing? Are you eating correctly to keep your blood pressure down?” I ask.

“Yes baby, mama is doing what the doctor and the nutritionist told me to do, but your father’s been eating mini cheesecakes. I saw the evidence in his car.”

I giggle because I know my father sneaks sweets all the time.

“I’ll talk with him mom, but I need to talk to you about a man I met.”

“Ok, is he nice? Does he work at the hospital? This is so exciting.”

I take a deep breath and start talking.

“Well, he’s very handsome, polite, protective, attentive and kind.”

“Raina he sounds perfect, but I’m assuming you have something that bothers you about him.”

“Well, it’s not that something bothers me, but his work…his work and my job we would never see each other.”

“What does this young man do?”

Oh shit, I can’t say he’s a dragon keeper of the law.

“He’s ahh… in law enforcement and sometimes he goes undercover.”

“Oh baby, I see what you mean, that is a high stress job. How do you feel about him?”

“Mama, I love him and I know he loves me, but what if this is a mistake.”

“Listen Raina, if you never take a chance on love you will be alone and honey you deserve love. Give this man a chance, besides I want grandbabies.”

“Maybe your right, well I will let you go now and I’ll be sure to call soon.”

“Ok baby, and send a picture of this man to my cell I want to see the guy who my daughter loves.”

“Ok mom, I sure will.”

Once I hang up I feel much better, talking with my mom always does that and maybe she’s right, I should give Jonathan a chance. I’m going to go to work today and get some things done and then I will contact Jonathan and tell him that I think we should give love a try.

Later that day, after talking with my boss, he told me I can take the night shift tonight.

I decide to pack a bag for my time with Jonathan. We could take turns at each other’s houses and maybe this can grow into something long term. I’m so excited to see if Jonathan and I can make a good couple.

I wish I could have gotten a number from him, but I think I remember where he lives. The no name servant drove my car, with me in it, home and I paid close attention to all landmarks in case I needed to contact Jonathan.

JONATHAN

As I’m walking down the stairs where my brother Nathan is each step feels heavier than the last. Everyone has gotten their punishment except him. I sentenced the wolves and witches to a year in a super prison for their involvement.

When I reach his cell, he’s on the floor looking at the wall.

“Are you here to tell me how many days I have left to live brother?’ Nathan says, with resentment.

“Why do you hate me so much? I have always loved you and the fact that you are trying to kill me is unbelievable.”

“You have always been so concerned about people’s feelings, and at this point the things I tried to do to you, doesn’t compare to what I did.” Nathan spits.

“When I was trying to talk with you, I felt heartbroken and shameful, I know that you don’t feel that about trying to over throw me and kidnap Raina, so what’s it about? Who else have you wronged?”

Nathan looks up at me and for the first time in a while he seems in pain. His eyes are beast and they look weak and defeated. Nathan is hiding something.

“Nathan, tell me and then I promise I will give you what’s coming to you.” I say, hoping he will speak.

“I guess it doesn’t matter now, I found my true mate the other day and I walked away from her because I planned to mate with Raina.” He looks down now.

“Raina is my true mate and you put a spell on her… Now you’re saying you found your true mate and you left her in pursuit of another woman, which you had no chance with?”

“YOU SAID YOU WILL ISSUE MY PUNISHMENT, SO DO IT!” Nathan yells.

I looked at him and knew Raina was right about me killing my own brother. Even if the law called for it to happen, how can I kill him knowing he’s found his true mate? She would surely die soon after because of the void of knowing he’s gone for good.

“You want it? You got it!”

Nathan stands and turns his back to me with his head lowered.

“Make it quick Jonathan and tell our parents I love them.”

“Nathan Justice you are here by forced back to your homeland away from Earth. You will not be permitted back on Earth until six months has passed, in which time you can pursue your true mate. You will be forced to feel the pain of abandoning your mate, as well as, you are forbidden to release your beast for thirty days and you get to live. I hope you use this time to reflect on all the bad shit you’ve done and how so many others are being punished because of your pride, envy and stupidity.”

Very slowly Nathan turns around and looks at me with confusion.

“Why do you show me mercy? I don’t deserve your mercy.”

“You right you don’t, but Raina said that I should give you a second chance, so I’m giving it to you, but if you mess it up, I’ll revoke the mercy shown today. I’ll have some guards from home come get you soon.”

“Thank you, for something I would have not done for you, but I guess that’s why you’re the Keeper of the Law and I’m not.”

“Yeah, you would be sentencing everyone to death.”

We both laugh and then I begin to walk away.

“Jonathan, do you think that you could take me home instead of guards? I don’t want Mother to see me with anyone else but family.”

I think about it for a few seconds.

“Ok Nathan, I will escort you home, and remember you need to be on your best behavior.”

Nathan nods and then sits down on the bench in the cell.  Even though I would rather go to Raina, I will take my brother home and return to Earth to speak to my mate. I can’t live without her and I must make her understand.

I open the cell and my brother walks over to me. I grab his arm and pull out my portal, it’s been a long time since I’ve been home, home to Janui, Cortamagen!

We are off and before I know it we are back home in our land, were the dragons are rulers and peace is every day.
