Resurgence (A Siren Novella): Alternative Ending by Jaimie Roberts (9)

It’s not long after our return home that Richard receives an email which sends him flying back out of the house again in a roaring fit. I suspect I know why, but I’ll no doubt find out for sure when he gets back.

As I sit at the kitchen counter, I stare at the little pen drive that holds so many dark secrets. I know if left hidden here for a while, Richard will eventually find it. I also know that I won’t want to be here when that happens.

Five to ten minutes after Richard leaves, I’m surprised when I hear the sound of the doorbell. Getting up, I have a look to see who’s at the gates, and I’m surprised to find David there. I frown, wondering why he’s here.

I press the button. “David?” I ask, making his head snap up to the camera.

“Can you let me in? I want to speak with you.”

“Sure,” I say, buzzing him inside. The gates open, allowing David to drive through. I leave the door open and go make him a drink. He emerges in the kitchen as I stand there holding the drink out to him.

“Is everything okay?”

Walking towards me, he places his hands on my shoulders. “I could ask the same about you.” I frown, and he notices as he takes his drink. “Remember when you told me about your dad?” He sits down, slugging the drink back. He wants to say more, but I can tell he’s having trouble right now.

“Yes,” I answer, urging him to go on.

“I suppose I didn’t want to believe it. It’s only because I’ve been blinkered, but ever since that day, I’ve opened my eyes a little more, and now I can see it. The way he looks at you and the way he is around you. It’s almost feral. I’ve tried to talk to your mother about it, but she keeps shutting me down. I don’t know what else to do.” He fixes me with pleading eyes. “What else can I do?”

I know he’s asking if he can save me from him somehow, but what David doesn’t realise is that as long as Richard is around, I can’t be saved.

“There’s nothing you can do.”

Grabbing my hand, he squeezes it. “There must be something? I can take you away from here. Help you escape.”

I sigh, both loving and hating that idea all in one fucked up measure. “He’ll never stop. He will always find me.”

“But it doesn’t have to be that way. I have connections. I can make it so that you disappear off the face of the earth. He won’t find you.”

“I’m pregnant.” I know he already knows this, but I’m deliberately emphasising the point to him so he knows.

I see the moment it dawns on him. He grips his eyes shut. The turmoil of it is written all over his face. “That sick son of a bitch. You’re his fucking daughter for fuck’s sake!”

“Surely my mother’s told you that I’m not? Well, not biologically.”

I see the moment all colour drains from his face. He looks positively sick. “It doesn’t matter. The mere fact that he brought you up makes you his daughter. It’s fucking sick.”

I sigh, knowing what he says is true. “It’s all I’ve ever known. I grew up with him doting on Amber, but treating me like a pariah. I remember it vividly as a kid. He would never hug me. Sometimes, in fact, he would keep an arm’s length from me. Over the years, he hated me—resented me even. As I got older, that resentment and hate turned into something … else.”

Placing his head in his hands, David closes his eyes. “It’s fucking sick.” I don’t say anything, and after a few seconds, he looks up at me before getting up and pulling me in for a hug. “All these years, you’ve been suffering in silence. All these years, you’ve had everyone call you a liar when you were telling the truth.” He pulls away, looking down at my lips before capturing my eyes. He bends down, kissing me lightly on the mouth before resting his forehead on mine. “No more,” he simply says before moving away and rushing out the door.

I’m so shocked by this that I fail to realise he’s leaving the house at first. He’s like a man on a mission. I call after him, but it’s already too late. He gets in the car, rushes for the gates, and leaves me wondering what the fuck has just happened. How on earth is he going to make this right? He has nothing.

It’s only when I walk back to the kitchen and find my pen drive missing that I realise I’ve just been played. My heart starts beating wildly, wondering what the fuck David’s going to do with it. It’s only when I remember that David’s not the enemy here that my heart starts to slow down a little. I have no idea what he’s going to do with it. He probably has no clue as to what’s on that pen drive, but he knows I had it out for a reason. I was stupid and kept my eyes off the ball. I was so busy concentrating on David that I failed to see him swipe the fucking thing.

Twenty minutes after that, Richard comes barging through the door, anger radiating out from every pore of him. “Fucking fucker!” he screams, throwing his phone onto one of the sofas.

“What’s the matter, Dad?”

“That fucking cunt, Porter, saw us!” he seethes.

I fake a frown at him. “Saw us?” I ask, playing dumb.

Getting frustrated, Richard storms over to his phone, picking it up and finding what it is he’s looking for. He turns the phone towards me. “Saw us!” he shouts again, thrusting the phone in front of my eyes.

I so want to smile, but I know he’ll know I was behind it if I do. For a fleeting moment, I allow my eyes to scan the image in front of me. It looks damn right fucking sexy. Richard is in between my legs, and although you can’t actually see what he’s doing, it’s pretty obvious that he’s giving me head. If that alone wouldn’t convince someone, then the image of me with my euphoric smile, closed eyes, and my head leaning back against the wall would.

I gasp. “Oh, my God,” I shout, covering my mouth. In an extra attempt to act shocked, I start forcing the waterworks. “But he’s going to tell Amber. Everything will be ruined.”

Richard, throwing the phone back on the sofa, sighs, before saying, “He won’t tell Amber. As long as I keep my fucking mouth shut about you and him, he won’t say a thing.”

“Well, that’s good at least.”

He huffs, locking me with his venomous eyes. “Good? You think this is fucking good? He cheated on my daughter. I know it, and now I’m just going to allow him to be married to her for however fucking long the charade lasts?”

“But you’ll have to now. If he lets this loose, both of us will be ruined, Dad. Not only that, but the police will get involved. We can’t have that. Not now that I’m pregnant,” I say, rubbing my hand possessively over my belly.

Richard points at me. “You know none of this would have happened if you had just kept your fucking legs shut.”

Now it’s my turn to point, but this time it’s towards my belly. “Yeah. And this wouldn’t have happened either if I had kept my legs shut.”

Sprinting towards me, Richard grabs my chin. “You watch your fucking mouth around me,” he seethes. Almost as if he realises how angry he’s becoming, he pushes me away, turning so that he’s not looking at me anymore. I watch a few seconds as his shoulders rise and fall from the breaths that he’s taken. He’s mad. Really mad.

I give him a few more seconds to calm before I go to him, wrapping my arms around his shoulders. “It’ll be okay,” I soothe. “We’ll figure something out. I’m sure there are other ways to make Amber realise that her husband’s nothing but a cheater.” All bullshit, but I need to help calm him now. It’s almost like a game to me. Everything involving my dad is a game. Even when trying to soothe the savage beast with lies and bullshit.

He doesn’t push me away when I comfort him. I listen as his breathing steadies even further before walking around to face him. I take his face in my hands, leaning in to kiss his lips. “Everything will be okay. You have me, remember? Wasn’t that what you always wanted?” I can still see the fire in his eyes as he watches me, but the anger’s starting to dim a little. I kiss both cheeks before saying, “Let me make it better.”

Getting down onto my knees, I start to undo his trousers. All he does is watch. He doesn’t stop me or push me away. Once I pull them down to his ankles, I see for myself that he’s ready for whatever I have to offer.

He’s always ready for me.

I waste no time, immediately grabbing his cock and putting it into my mouth. When I hear his deep hiss, I know I have him. All anger is now focused on the things only I can help fix—or at least lessen temporarily.

Lust.

Want.

Need.

Craving.

I go to town on his cock, licking and sucking for all it’s worth. So far, he’s let me, but I know at some stage, he’ll stop me. He always does. He loves coming inside me too much.

It’s when I take him fully into my mouth, almost gagging, that he pulls my head away on a moan, ordering me to lie on the sofa. He’s so turned on that he can’t even wait to get me into the bedroom.

Dutifully, I lie on the sofa, pulling my dress up as I do. He watches me, deep hunger set in his eyes as he lowers himself on top of me.

I don’t have long to wait before I feel him insert his erect cock inside of me, making us both cry out in unison. “I love it when you fuck me,” I coo as he starts thrusting inside of me, grunting and biting the side of my neck as he does. “This is where I belong. This is where I’ll always belong,” I scream, giving him the words I know he longs to hear. It’s like an aphrodisiac to him.

“Fucking mine,” he growls, propping himself up to start playing with my clit. “I’ll allow you to come, but only because it feels so fucking good against my cock.”

Why, thank you.

I can only think the words. I daren’t say them. Instead, I close my eyes, allowing the sensations to ride through me.

“Look at me, Scarlet,” he commands, coaxing my eyes with his. For some reason, I have to look at him when I come lately. “I want to witness you explode by my hand. Only. Fucking. Me!”

His hips smash into me over and over again as his thumb expertly plays with my clit like the perfect strum of an instrument.

“Come for me, Scarlet. Now!” he bellows, causing the orgasm to race to the surface.

With one pinch of my clit, I detonate around him, and not long after, Richard follows suit, screaming my name.

“What is it about you?” he asks after calming a little.

I really don’t quite know.
