Sassy Ever After: In My Mate's Defense (Kindle Worlds Novella) by Cassidy K. O'Connor (1)

Chapter Two

Cassie stood up, glanced around at the girls remaining with a mischievous glare. The side conversations came to an abrupt halt as the eager ladies listened for what was to come. “Okay, now that all the mature women have gone home let’s head to my house and get out of these respectable clothes and into something a little sexier.” A cheer echoed around the room at Cassie’s pronouncement.

Koira looked around and realized everyone had left except the girls around her age. It dawned on her the bridal shower was transitioning to a bachelorette party. She looked down at her clothes, disappointed she was dressed more appropriately for church than to go clubbing.

“Don’t worry, I’ve got something special for you at my house.” Cassie winked at Koira before heading outside.

Koira paused and let out a heavy sigh of resignation and grabbed her purse as she followed her maid of honor. She was suddenly feeling scared wondering what devious plans may be awaiting her.

The train of girls drove over to Cassie’s. As everyone arrived, Koira wasn’t surprised at all to see them carrying large bags from their cars. It was painfully apparent, everyone had been in on this plan except for her.

“You are up first Koira, hair, and makeup then you can get dressed.” Cassie pushed Koira into a chair in the kitchen and walked away.

Sinead walked up carrying a very large case and plopped it on the table. “What will it be, demure or vixen?”

Ten voices all shouted, “Vixen!” at the same time from various rooms in the house. “I guess you got your answer.” Koira sat back and let her play stylist.

“Do you know how many women would kill for your lashes and lips, both are incredibly full and beautiful. You don’t really need me, you’re a vixen without any help.” Sinead winked and continued applying foundation.

Koira couldn’t help blushing, she’d never developed any kind of ego since she was blind from a young age. It’s difficult to appreciate your assets when you don’t know what you look like. It also didn’t help that Sinead was probably the most gorgeous women Koira had laid eyes on if she batted for the other team she probably would have gone after her. Koira chuckled to herself and her wayward thoughts.

“What did I miss? Let me in on the joke.” Sinead sat back and waited.

“I was just thinking how incredible it was to get such a compliment from you. With your red hair and porcelain skin, you look like an Irish fairy. I imagine you get hit on constantly.” Koira decided not to tell her about her naughtier thought.

“Getting attention from a guy is the easy part, usually as soon as they hear I’m a lawyer they get intimidated by my brain and take off.”

“It’s curious you’re so amazing with hair and makeup given your occupation. I always pictured lawyers as very serious people who spend all their time in the library.”

Sinead smiled and went back to work on Koira’s makeup. “For the most part you’re right but I guess there aren’t many lawyers who were also beauty pageant kids growing up.” Sinead nodded at Koira’s shocked look. “My mom dragged me all over the Southeast doing pageants, I was sixteen before she finally realized I hated it and let me quit.”

“I’ve never met a beauty queen before, it must have been such an amazing experience with all the fancy dresses and jewelry.” Sinead gave her a curious look. “You would have given anything to quit and I would have given anything to see all of the colors and be able to admire myself in a mirror, I guess it’s a matter of perception.”

“Oh, I’m sorry Koira, I keep forgetting about your past sight issues. I sound like a spoiled, ungrateful brat, don’t I?”

Koira leaned forward and squeezed Sinead’s hand, “You’re one of the most genuine, kind-hearted people I’ve met since moving here. It’s difficult for a child to be grateful for something when they don’t know what the alternatives would be. I had a very happy childhood, even though I didn’t have my sight I had everything I needed and wanted.”

“That’s sweet of you to say, I am so glad you got your vision back, I can’t imagine living that way.”

“You’re telling me, I have a gorgeous fiancé that I get to ogle every day. It would have been a travesty for me to only get to appreciate his finer assets by touch.”

“What’s with all the giggling in here, you have a line of girls waiting to be gussied up.” Cassie stood over them, hands on her hips like a mother chastising her children.

“Sorry, it’s my fault, I was bragging about how hot my fiancé is.” Koira gave her a huge smile.

“If you are finished making us jealous you need to go get changed and Sinead needs to finish with the rest of us.”

Koira gave her a mock salute and headed for the bedroom. Each step she took she prayed the outfit Cassie brought would have enough material to cover her tits and ass.
