I accord her with a slight bow of the head, humoring my unworthy opponent before turning my back on her and walking to the door.
As I’m reaching for the handle, she cries out, her voice needy and brittle, ”Wait!”
Getting off the bed, the sheet forgotten, her modesty gone, she comes running towards me. She takes my hand in hers and kneels at my feet, showering my hand with desperate kisses. “I didn’t mean any of the things I said. “Your begging bores me.” I tear my hand away from her hold and open the door, stepping outside. “Goodbye, Eva. It’s been a pleasure as always.”
She gasps as her naked body falls listlessly to the carpeted floor, sobs tearing from her chest. “You heartless bastard! I hate you!”
I shut the door behind me as she’s reaching for the crystal tumbler on the floor. The last thing I hear is an explosion of glass shattering against the door.
Whoever said that vengeance rots the heart made a major mistake. And that mistake is thinking one has a heart left.
