Unchaste Fate (Pretty Pinks MC Book 1) by Dana Arden (14)

Chapter 13

Kenny

As a parent of a daughter, I’ve wanted to shield her from the ugly in the world. But Bellamy has always been different. She’s had it stuck in her head that whatever a man can do she can do better since she was a little girl. I used to enjoy her independent and stubborn streak, but when something like her being in danger and with a fucking gang of all people, I wish I had sheltered her more into a dainty flower who would be searching for stability with a rich blue-collared prick instead of joining the Marines then traveling the states as a nurse without a worry in the world. Eyes wide open now, she needs to realize that helping some people isn’t worth the risk.

I raised my kids to put family above all else. I can only fathom that this is why she got mixed up in all this shit, because she wanted to help the man understand his family’s condition. No other reason is peering through the furious thoughts that are penetrating my brain.

When I see Bellamy settle into the couch and her giant of a man sit down beside her. I let the steam roll and the fire breath.

“Young lady!” I bellow. “I want all of this laid out in front of me right the fuck now, and I don’t want you to skip over anything. I want you to start with how this big goon has come out of the woodwork, and ya’ll are all up each other’s asses.” I take in Banshee’s body as it stiffens and he sits up straighter at my words and wants to laugh. He can’t possibly think he’s getting my daughter that easily. I’ve listened to my wife relay all the times he runs off on my baby girl, and it’s time he grows some balls and proves he’s man enough.

Banshee scoots closer to Bellamy and throws his arm onto the back of the sofa. She looks up at him as he glances down at her. A silent conversation is passed, and she nods clearing her throat. “Fair enough. I saw Banshee at the Southern Chaotic’s Clubhouse a few months ago, and then he showed up at the Main House last week. Then this week, he had dinner with Granny and me. Wednesday, Reggie, the leader of the Blue Enigma came into the ER before they wheeled his cousin, Victor in the doors. He had multiple stab wounds, and I took over his care before the doctors and nurses had time to approach. Victor died twice; once in the ER and then again when he was on the operating table. Once he was out of surgery, he was placed in the ICU in critical but stable condition.” She wrings her hands together and continues. “At change over, Reggie was causing a commotion in the waiting room and started yelling my name. I went out there and tried to settle him down as much as I could. He didn’t understand the medical jargon, so I checked with my friend, Kelly who’s an ICU nurse, and she filled me in. I passed it on to Reggie in terms he would understand and then I left.”

“Sooo…,” I draw out, “how did it go from assisting in information to being surrounded by thugs in the middle of the grocery store?”

“He called that same night in a panic, and instead of letting the hospital handle it, Banshee, Poison, Mauve and I went to the hospital. When we got there, he was aggravated because they’d found a clot and kicked him out of the room, so they could figure out the best solution to get rid of it. I explained the process and tried to ease his worries, but none of it sunk in. Banshee stepped in, and Reggie backed off for the most part. After I told him that the hospital would end up kicking him out and then he’d have no way of checking on his cousin, he settled.”

“What else? There has to be more. None of this constitutes for stalking you to the store.”

She bobs her head and leans closer to Banshee. “Thursday I was leaving work, and he stopped me on the sidewalk by snatching me by the arm. He had it in his head that once my patient always my patient. I, once again, explained that I’m an ER nurse and not an ICU nurse and that once the patients are transferred to different units, they’re no longer my concern. Nothing I said was calming him, so I played the cousin card and him needing to take care of himself in order to take care of Victor. He let me go, and I went home, so even that doesn’t amount to being stalked or cornered. Today and tomorrow I’m off, and I just went about my business. I needed groceries, so I called Granny to see if she wanted to go. We went to lunch and then the store. I haven’t had any contact with him since last night.”

“Tell me what happens in the store when they approached you,” I growl.

“I was checking the expiration date of milk when I heard shoes skidding on the floor behind me. When I turned around and came face-to-face with Pyro, I was taken aback. He crowded me and started spewing about how I should be at the hospital for Reggie and Victor. Apparently, Victor had a rough night, and they feel it’s my problem. He tried to drag me out of the store, and that was when I pulled out my Glock and pressed it against his chest. I let him know in as many words that I wasn’t going to be pushed around and that it wasn’t a priority of mine to give a shit about Victor. Basically, I told him that Reggie could kiss my ass that I was done with all this bullshit.”

“Good job, baby girl, but pulling a gun on them probably wasn’t the best move. What do we have on these men?” I say as my stare penetrates Banshee.

Banshee stretches his neck from side to side and Bellamy flinches with each crack and pop. “Rose is looking at the security feeds from the hospital and digging into Reggie and Victor. Poison and I are staying close until this is resolved. My Pres, Brute is ready to pounce if necessary. We informed the Chaotic’s on what’s going down, but they aren’t planning to interfere because they have a truce with the Blue Enigma. We could force their hand since Bellamy has a marker with them for helping two of their brothers, but Brute doesn’t want to push.” Banshee finishes and I nod. It’s good to know he’s looking out for Bellamy.

I scope out my boys, and the intense expression on their faces lets me know they’re ready to go huntin’. Remember me saying family above all else. These boys don’t mess around when it comes to their sister even if she is older than them. They have much respect for her and the path she’s chosen in life, and they are not about to stand back and allow someone else to fuck it up.
