Devour by Susan Bliler (30)

Chapter 30

(Three months later)

Life at Blood Lust was fan-fucking-tastic.

Sitting on the bed in their bedroom, Hillary was drying her hair as Modess stepped from the bathroom, fully dressed, and made his way to her.  Even clad in something as mundane as hip hugging jeans and a form fitting t-shirt, Modess was the sexiest man she’d ever seen.  She couldn’t help but grin in open admiration.  Mine. That thought had been playing over and over in her head since they’d claimed each other.  While it had only been a few months since she’d moved to Blood Lust and into Modess’ house permanently, she doubted she’d ever tire of simply looking at him.

“You keep looking at me like that, Cupcake, and I won’t be leaving this house today.”

She chuckled at the threat even while a zing of hot pleasure shot to her core.  He’d already taken her this morning slow and easy in the shower, but she knew from past experience that he meant what he said.  “Bull and Evan are on their way to get you.”

He shrugged casually before dropping onto the end of the bed.  It sank under his weight before he grabbed her socked feet and gave them a squeeze.  Pulling her feet onto his lap, he peeled her sock off.

Hillary giggled.  “What are you doing?”

“I’ve never seen feet this small.  Just wanna look at ‘em.”

Once her foot was free, Hillary wiggled her dainty, red-tipped toes.  His warm hands wrapped around her foot, one hand resting on top while the other massaged her sole.  “You know you’re the cutest fucking thing I’ve ever seen?”

She wrinkled her nose.  “Cute?”

Leaning forward, he brushed his lips against the top of her foot and breathed, “Sexy.  Beautiful.  Perfect.”  Leaning back he beamed, “I love you, Cupcake.”

Lips splitting in a grin she moaned a quiet, “Mmmm,” and leaned down to hug him up tight.

A horn blasted outside but Modess didn’t move to pull away.  Instead, a growl rumbled its way up from his chest and he curled a hand around the back of her neck.  “Woman, you know what I want, so stop torturing me.  I ain’t leaving here without it.”

Hillary’s smile broadened and she pulled back to look at her beast.  “I love you, Modess.”

His eyes slammed closed and a grin took his lips like he’d been physically affected by the words.  His chest rattled harder and when he finally opened his eyes, they were dark, filled with his inner beast.  Leaning over her, he took her lips in a long, slow kiss, even as the horn outside blasted again.  The sound didn’t stop him or even slow him down.  No, Modess kissed her long and deep as if he had all the time in the world.  When he finally broke the kiss to rest his forehead against hers, he pleaded, “Promise me you won’t ever stop.”

“Never,” she replied.  She climbed off the bed and pulled him reluctantly before going up on her toes to press one last kiss to his lips.  Shoving him in the chest, she began backing up step-by-step.  His eyes darkened impossibly further and Hillary giggled because she knew what running from him did to his instincts.  His eyes tracked her with an intensity that had goosebumps blasting up her arms.  “I’ll never stop loving you, Modess Wilder.  I’m gonna love you my whole life and then even after.”

Dipping his chin, he gave her a predatory grin and took a step toward her when the horn outside blasted again.  “Goddamn it!” he snapped.  “Don’t they know I’m the fucking Alpha.  I’ll come when I’m damn good and ready.”

Hillary stopped backing up and planted her hands on her hips.  “Well you better be ready now, mister, because I’ve invited Simone to dinner and she doesn’t know it, but I’ve invited Bull too, and I plan on feeding ‘em fish.”  She jerked her chin toward the door.  “So go on, git!”

“Bull keeps honking that horn like that and he won’t have any teeth left to eat with.”

“Play nice!”

Glancing at the clock on the wall, he canted his head before sliding his gaze back to her.  “I’ll be home in six hours.  On the dot.  When I get here, you better be in that bed naked.”

“Or what?” she teased.

“Or you know what, Cupcake.  I’ll hunt you down and fuck you where I find you.  Don’t care who’s watching.”

His words had heat pooling between her legs.  “We’ve been screwing like rabbits for weeks, Modess.  You gotta be tiring of the sport by now.”

He was already shaking his head.  “I’m gonna put a pup in you, Hillary, and even then, I’ll never tire of taking you.”  Reaching down he adjusted his visible erection and winced.  “Damn you!  You’re gonna have me fishing all day with a hard on.”

She gasped in mock dismay, lifting a hand and flattening it over her breasts.  “And what will poor old Bull and Evan think?”

As if on cue, the horn outside blasted again.

“Don’t matter,” Modess responded.  “Bull’s gonna be busy collecting his teeth.”

“Modess!”  She dropped her hand and crossed to him.  “Be nice to Bull and go get me some fish.”

One large arm curled around her waist and he pulled her into him lowering for a kiss before pulling back.  “What my queen wants, my queen gets.”

“Your queen wants fish and for Bull to survive the trip.”  She tiptoed for one last peck and swatted his chest.  “Go!  Bring food for your woman!”

His response was a growl before he winked and turned, leaving the room.

Alone, Hillary padded in her bare feet to the closet and pulled out the book of her boudoir photos that Brooke had finally edited and delivered.  The book was wrapped in soft pink paper and she crossed to set it on the bed, so Modess could open it tonight when they went to bed.  Smiling to herself, she padded to the window and watched her mate climb into Bull’s truck.  His eyes lifted to hers as if sensing her watching him, and she blew him a kiss and waved.  The jacked-up truck kicked up dust as Bull pulled out of the compound.  That old familiar feeling washed over her, the one that told her something was coming.  This time though, she grinned.  She knew what was coming and butterflies flitted to life in her middle with the prospect of telling Modess.  A hand lifted and flattened on her belly and she smiled.

Eyes taking in the bustling activity as her pack worked outside, she made her way downstairs and then out onto the porch.  The screen door slammed behind her and Simone waved from next door before heading Hillary’s way.  Her flip-flops smacked as she walked up the front steps and took a seat beside Hillary on the porch swing.  Modess had it put in after Hillary had said in passing that she’d always wanted one.

“You tell him yet?” Simone asked, turning to smile at Hillary.

“Tonight,” she sighed happily, hand rubbing absently over her belly.

“You think he’ll be happy?”

Turning, she couldn’t help but laugh.  “We’ve been trying.  He’s gonna be ecstatic.”

Reaching over, Simone squeezed Hillary’s thigh.  “I’m so happy for you.  You deserve this you know.”

That fast, tears flooded Hillary’s eyes.  She hadn’t expected this beautiful life Modess had given her.  He’d saved her and then he’d rescued Simone too, so that the two women could be together.  Now, Hillary was the Alpha’s pregnant mate with her best friend living next door.  It all felt too damn good to be true.  But, Simone was right.  She’d worked hard to be a good person and to do right and Modess felt like a reward.  Swiping at her cheeks, she reached out and took Simone’s hand before squeezing it.  “You deserve to be happy too.”

Letting her head fall back to rest against the swing, Simone rolled her face toward Hillary.  “I am, Hill.”  Turning, she looked at the Blood Lust compound. “I like it here.”

“Like?” Hillary scoffed.  “I think we can do better than that.”

Simone shrugged.

Giddy excitement tore through Hillary.  Simone didn’t know that tonight Hillary was working to set her up with Bull, who was clearly smitten with the delicate blonde.  Tonight was going to be epic.  Hillary had even invited Wanda, Christian, and Evan.  They’d all be there to witness when Modess found out they were expecting.  If things went right, Simone and Bull would get what they wanted too.  Nodding merrily to herself, Hillary couldn’t help but think, Magic does exist.  Lifting Simone’s hand, she kissed her friend’s knuckles and stood abruptly.  “Come on, girlfriend.  We’ve got some prep work to do for dinner tonight and I ain’t talking about food.”

Confused, Simone slowly stood.  “What do you mean?”

“We’re going dress shopping.”  She winked before hustling into the house and exiting just as quickly with her purse and the keys to Modess’ truck.  “Might as well look our best for the announcement, right?”

Simone clapped excitedly.  “Yes!  Let me grab my purse.”  Turning, she hurried to her cabin next door.

Watching Simone rush to her home, Hillary crossed her arms and smiled triumphantly.  Modess, Bull, and Simone had no idea what was in store for them tonight.  First, she’d make her mother’s epic charred rainbow trout with cracked black pepper, butter, and dill.  They’d eat, she’d do the big reveal, and if things went right, while she, Modess, Wanda, Christian, and Evan were devouring the huckleberry cherry cheese cake she’d made last night, Bull would be devouring Simone.

Hillary sighed to herself.  Life is delicious!
