Fighting Blind by E Marie (7)

Kei Valancia

I watched in amusement as Ryker’s aura dimmed as he went into unconsciousness.

I can’t believe you would do that to our mate! Rei screamed at me.

I chuckled. Oh chill. He’s the freaking King. He’ll be all right.

She only huffed and stayed silent.

“Kei Valancia,” Brad’s booming voice surrounded the clearing like a heavy blanket.

I turned to face the crowd. “Yes?” I felt a grip on my arm, not rough but firm enough that he meant business as he began pulling me across the yard and back into the house as we made our way towards his office. When he shut the door behind him, I pulled away and sat in the chair.

“So what’s all this about? I think I should be with Ryker when he wakes up or he’ll freak when he doesn’t see me.”

He didn’t say anything as he walked over and sat behind his mammoth of a desk. “Would you like to tell me what the hell you just did?”

I shrugged and looked at him innocently. “I won a fight against the Almighty King? Pretty explanatory all by its self.” I smirked at his low growl.

“Kei, I’m serious.” I could hear the power behind his words, but it had no clear effect.

“I’m completely serious too,” I said, keeping a straight face.

He groaned and pounded his fist lightly on the desk. I could see the steely blue of irritation entwine with his powers. “Why must you be so difficult?”

I opened my mouth to speak, but a roar that rattled my bones interrupted me.

“It seems the beast has awoken,” I muttered.

The two of us were quiet, waiting for the man that was my mate. Right on time, his familiar black power instantly filled the room as he slammed the door open, making it recoil from hitting the wall. “King, have a nice nap?” I smiled cheekily in his direction. I didn’t hear his footsteps before I felt his presence right in front of me.

“How did you do that?” He growled. “What are you to have that much power?”

“What? You talking about little ole me?” I smiled innocently.

“Kei, be serious. You’re not some ordinary wolf half-breed.”

I pursed my lips and crossed my arms.

“You haven’t told him?” Brad asked sharply.

“Told me what?” At this point, Ryker was sounding fed up by everything.

“Ah, well, I guess you could say that there was never really a good opportunity to tell him.” I chuckled to myself quietly.

“Now would be a good time I would think,” he said.

“Yes, it would be a perfect time to tell him actually,” I replied casually.

“Both of you, stop this and tell me what is going on.” Ryker finally couldn’t take it any longer, and I finally answered his nagging question.

“I would just like to inform you, King, that I am half fae, the one race that everybody can’t seem to figure out.”

He was surprised all right, stunned even, as the bright orange around him was the brightest that I had ever seen on him.

“I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised, given how all signs pointed to it,” he finally said. “Though, it is still quite a shock to find out that my mate is half werewolf and fae.”

“I guess you could say that I am as unique as they come,” I told him with a grin.

“However, I do not see how you could have that much strength even being part fae.”

“That’s funny. I can’t see it either.” I laughed at my own joke, and I heard Ryker growl at me in response.

“Alpha Hale, do you mind giving my mate and me some time alone,” Ryker said. It wasn’t a question.

“Do I have a choice?” I heard him mutter before I heard his chair squeak slightly from him standing up. His muffled footsteps on the carpet were the only thing that could be heard as he walked across the room and shut the door behind him with a quiet click. I leaned my head back and sighed, my eyes closed.

We didn’t say anything for a long time. He could be mad all he wanted that I handed him his butt on a shiny platter. I would just be off in my own little corner laughing on my own. I felt the heat of his arms as he caged me in between them, blocking my escape. I didn’t react as his fingers trailed down my neck, leaving a fiery blaze even though it surprised me more than I would have liked to admit.

“I am your mate. It’s kinda my job to keep you on your toes.” My voice came out raspy, and I felt his warm breath tickle my cheek as he leaned down to whisper in my ear.

“Say that again,” he said in a guttural growl.

I lifted my head and opened my eyes, his comforting presence surrounding us in a protective cocoon. “Say what?” I felt one of his large hands cup my cheek, his warmth seeping into my skin, burrowing deep until it was ingrained into my memory.

“Tell me that you’re my luna, my mate…mine.

I chuckled and tugged his soft hair playfully. “All right, Tarzan, I’ll be your Jane any day.”

He groaned and stuck his nose into my neck. “You just ruined the mood.”

I quirked an eyebrow. “And that mood would be…” I trailed off, and he pulled back with a sigh.

“You’re insufferable.”

I grinned cheekily at him as he stood, gripping my hand firmly and pulling me up along with him. “I think you meant adorable. Let’s face it. Who wouldn’t love this pretty little face?” I batted my eyelashes and smiled sweetly.

He laughed, a deep, husky sound that had my wolf howling in my head. “You’re pretty hard to resist,” he mused, pulling my body flushed up against his.

“I know. My magnetic personality is just too hard to resist,” I said dramatically. If I could see, I imagine him to be rolling his eyes at my ridiculousness.

“Come. We need to begin training.”

I followed after him dutifully, hand in hand. “We? As in, you and I?” I questioned, letting him lead me through the room and out into the hallway, the air turning slightly cooler than the office.

“No, you and Santa Claus,” he replied with sarcasm.

“Ooh, I’ve always wanted to meet Santa. I picture him to be gorgeous and not at all like the fat jolly guy that everyone depicts him to be.” I sighed dreamily just to get a rise out of him. Which worked of course. We were in the middle of the hall when all of a sudden I was pushed against a wall, the vibrations of his low growl reverberating through him to me.

“No, you aren’t going to meet Santa. And if I hear another word of him, I will hunt him down and put his head on a stake. Got it, love?”

I remained relaxed as he took in deep breaths to calm himself down, inhaling my scent.

“You do know Santa is a fictional figure, right? And even if I was able to meet Santa…” I ignored his sharp growl. “I wouldn’t be able to see if he was gorgeous or not, so the point is kinda moot. Besides, jealousy looks so hot on you.” Deep indigo surrounded his tall figure, the color glittering brightly. I chuckled at the idea of him being jealous of a man that wasn’t even real. He stayed silent and seemed to be taking in my words. “My sight is only on you.”

He didn’t laugh.

“Oh come on. It was sort of funny. You know, me being blind.

“So don’t worry ’cause my sight is only on you.” I poked him in the chest. “Get it? Me and some men do.” I paused for a quick second.

“By the way, why do men do that? Is it a language shared among men to just grunt in response to all.” Still no response, I pouted and crossed my arms. “You’re no fun.”

“Do you always talk this much?”

I frowned and stuck my tongue out at him childishly.

“Only when I am in a good mood.” I smiled and leaned up so my lips could brush against his lightly. The orange of surprise and violet of desire mixed together to fill my vision. “But I’m also a bigger tease.”

“Kei.” My name was a sigh, and I smiled at his breathlessness and took this chance. Slipping from his loose grip, I pranced away as I left him dazed. I simply laughed as his words roared behind me.

“Damn you, vixen!”
