Wrapped Up in Stripes (Blue Valley Shifters Book 1) by Sarah Marsh (13)

Chapter Thirteen

Heidi was beginning to realize as dinner wound to an end that she was pretty much hammered. She wasn’t used to drinking wine, and the special pairings the boys had chosen to go with their meal courses had been so delicious. But now she found her mind wandering to naughty places every time her eyes met either Mason’s sexy golden gaze or Wade’s smoldering green eyes.

They’d ordered coffee and a piece of chocolate cake, which the men seemed to enjoy taking turns feeding her. It seemed like they were fascinated watching the fork leave her lips with each bite and she’d be lying if she said she didn’t draw it out a little just for them. All night there had been so many small points of seemingly innocent contact. Wade’s thigh brushing up against her own under the table, Mason tucking a wayward curl of her hair behind her ear as he leaned in to whisper something. If one man wasn’t holding her hand, the other usually was. There had been several times when one of them had placed his hand along her lower back, teasing the bare skin between the strings of the dress, causing goose bumps to erupt over her entire body. Each touch in itself was lovely, but layered up over the hours they’d been sitting here, they’d become a powder keg just waiting to be lit inside of her—and good Goddess, did she want to blow.

“Do you like to dance, Heidi?” Mason leaned in to ask her, his breath tickling the delicate skin just under her ear.

“I love to dance.”

“Why don’t we go next door, then?” Wade held out his hand for her and gestured to a set of ornate doors out past the restaurant’s exit.

She was intrigued when they left the restaurant, expecting a dance club to be on the other side, but when they stepped into a dimly lit lounge playing low, mellow music, Heidi was pleasantly surprised. Quite a few couples already swayed slowly on the dance floor while others canoodled in small, intimate booths.

“Why don’t you take Heidi to sit, Wade? I’ll go get us some drinks.” Mason headed for the bar at the other end of the room while Wade led her to a booth just barely large enough for the three of them. He slid in close beside her and she couldn’t wipe the smile from her face when he gently took her hand once again and grinned at her. Wade was so handsome, he almost took her breath away.

“What are you thinking?” he asked, and she loved the genuine curiosity she could see in his open expression.

“Hmm, that I may have had too much to drink.” She laughed quietly and was relieved when Mason set down three bottles of sparkling water in front of them.

“Which is why you can drink this after you’ve danced with me.” Mason smiled and held out his hand to help her out of the booth. “I requested a song just for you.”

He led her onto the dance floor, and when she recognized the beginning of the song, she smiled as he pulled her close. The lyrics to Brett Eldredge’s “Wanna Be That Song” were the perfect choice for this moment. Heidi had never realized how wrong for her every other man she’d ever met had been, until she’d met Wade and Mason. They had to be her mates—how could this feeling be anything else?

“How did you know I loved this song?” She pulled her head from his shoulder to look into his eyes.

“Lucky guess for a small-town girl.” His arms pulled her even closer until she could feel the heat from his body seep into her own. “Besides, it's one of my favorites, too.”

“Do I get to cut in, or are you planning on hogging her all night?” She heard Wade’s voice from close behind her.

She could feel him close. Heidi loved how safe she felt wedged in between the two of them, and when Mason leaned in by her ear to speak softly, she wasn’t expecting the words that came out of his mouth.

“I plan on trying to hog her for an entire lifetime, my friend.”

She gasped as his meaning became clear.

Mason’s cock went instantly hard when Heidi’s sweet red lips parted in surprise at his comment. Everything she did at this point had him hard and aching—it was time to lay everything out on the table.

“You know what this is between us, love,” he continued, “don’t you? You’re our mate.”

Her soft blue eyes met his and he could feel her chest rubbing against his with every deep breath she took.

“I … I hoped,” she seemed to stumble over the words. “I mean, I’ve never felt this way before. What I feel when I touch the two of you.”

“We feel the same way, baby.” Wade softly kissed her neck, and her eyes slid closed as she groaned in pleasure.

“Will you come up to our suite with us, Heidi?” Mason tried to keep the desperation he felt out of his voice. He didn’t know what he’d do if she needed more time. “We don’t need to rush the claiming—we can take as much time as you need—but I just need to taste you, and touch you.”

He claimed her mouth in a thorough kiss, the taste of dark chocolate and her own unique sweetness driving him crazy. Mason pulled away and cupped her face in his hands, searching for her answer within her expression.

“Yes, please,” she whispered, causing both Wade and himself to groan as they quickly gathered her up to leave the lounge.

When they got to the elevator, there were two other couples inside. He cursed his rotten luck—he’d had big plans for their ride up. Mason couldn’t keep his eyes off of Heidi’s flushed face, her lips still wet from his kiss. He twined his fingers with hers as he stood beside her and knew that Wade did the same on the other side. Mason stifled a groan when he saw her bite her lower lip and glance towards the other people. Their mate needed them, and they’d give her everything she ever needed, from this day forth.
