It took a whole ten seconds for Leah to change her mind after they’d gotten out of the elevator last night. To be honest, he’d expected it. He’d expected her to bail before they even got into the elevator.

But that didn’t mean it hadn’t hurt. His dick had throbbed the entire way home, making him uncomfortable as he drove, trying to get Leah out of his mind. Cursing her for being a tease—even though he knew it wasn’t true.

He’d jerked her from her comfort zone and halfway hoped she wouldn’t notice until he’d gotten her pants off and shown her just how much fun she could have with him. But it was just as well. Better to have her run off before something happened than after—especially with regrets.

Shane woke with a hard on, and cursed Leah again as he took a cold shower and then as he ate breakfast. If she hadn’t been so damn hesitant in the elevator, and then practically melted at his feet, maybe he could forget her.

If he hadn’t felt the way her body responded to his, he might have been able to jerk off in the shower and then put the whole thing behind him.

In fact, he still thought he might be able to until he got to work and she wasn’t there. He checked his watch and found he was right on time. Which meant she was late, because Leah was always there earlier than him.

Shit. He hoped she hadn’t quit. It wasn’t like they weren’t adults. They could get past this.

He sat at his desk and pulled out the manuscript they’d worked on last night. He could present it to Kara alone, but he wouldn’t feel good about it. After all, it was a collaborative effort.

When she didn’t show up after another forty-five minutes, Shane almost went to Kara’s office to ask if she knew where she was. Then he heard the ding of the elevator. He peeked out from his cubicle and then froze.

Leah stood there, sunglasses propped on her head, smile wide. She wore a tailored dress that traced every curve—curves he didn’t know she had. And hadn’t her hair been brown? Now it was a shade of auburn that looked sexy as hell.

His dick went hard, and all the blood in his body rushed to his groan when she saw him. Her eyes locked on his and her lip quirked.

Holy hell. What was going on?

She walked—no, sashayed—to her cubicle, hips swaying. Damn it—he wanted her so bad right now and she was acting like they hadn’t just almost fucked in the elevator last night.

“Morning,” she said, dropping into her seat.

“What the hell?” he asked, completely off his game. “You’re late.”

She shrugged. “Kara knew I’d be a little late. I called earlier.”

“What did you do to your hair?”

She wrapped one of the curls around her finger and grinned. His throat dried. “You like it?”

“It’s…” He frowned and turned back to his desk.

What was going on? And the fact that it didn’t look she had a hangover right now just irritated him more. Who was this woman and where had he put Leah?

“Let’s go show Kara what we came up with,” Leah suggested, grabbing her manuscript and nothing else.

She didn’t wait for him to follow. He cursed and grabbed his manuscript as well. It didn’t matter. Leah was already chatting away about their ideas, laughing and joking with Kara. He was surprised she even gave him credit for the part he’d done.

After the meeting, part of him wanted to stop her and ask what was going on. But the other part, the part that was pissed off right now wanted to ignore her. Wanted to head out to the bar after work and find someone who actually appreciated his charms.

But then she caught his arm. “Can we talk a minute?”

Then, of all places, she led them to the copy room. She perched her hip against the machine, eyes locked on his.

“I’m sorry about last night,” she said.

He folded his arms, pretending like he had no idea what she was talking about. “What about last night?”

She laughed. “Okay, play it that way. I walked out on you, and it was rude. No, worse than rude because it was a lie.”

He couldn’t help himself. He had to ask the question. “What was a lie?”

“How I was feeling.”

His teeth gritted. So she’d lied about how she’d felt? She’d lied and told him she wanted him. Why?

“So all that in the elevator was just…what? You being a tease?”

Her mouth dropped open. Then she took a step closer to him. “No, that’s not what I meant. I meant afterward.”

“You’re not making any sense.”

“You bet I couldn’t have any fun, and you were right. You had to get me drunk for it to happen. And guess what?”

He narrowed his eyes. “What?”

She traced her finger over his arm, and his cock hardened again. She glanced down and grinned. “I liked it. I had fun. And we still got work done. So I wasn’t lying when I said I wanted you. I was lying afterward¸ when I said I couldn’t do that—what we were doing.”

He exhaled when she moved closer, her breasts brushing his arm. “What were we doing?”

Her lips curved. “You don’t remember what happened in the elevator?”

“Remind me.”

Her hand trailed lower, brushing his cock through his jeans. “I lied and said I couldn’t do that, but that wasn’t true. I just didn’t want to do that when I was drunk. I wanted you to know I wanted it, too. And I’m tired of the old Leah.” She pressed her hips against his. “This is the new Leah. Guess what the new Leah wants?”

“What?”

“You.”
