Paige (The Coven's Grove Chronicles Book 4) by Virginia Hunter (18)

A girl could get used to this, Paige thought. Levi had brought her breakfast in bed, and then wrapped her in the warmth of his arms. She’d gotten her wish to cuddle with him all night, and do a few extra things as well. This morning was a bonus. Staying here forever was becoming a more reasonable proposition by the minute. She wiggled closer, trying to get as much contact with him as possible.

His embrace tightened, pulling her even closer. He gently kissed the top of her head.

Yep, just stay here forever.

He groaned. “You’re suppose to be resting.”

Paige giggled. “Who says I’m not?” She slid her fingers down his back and grabbed a handful of his muscular backside.

“You won’t be if you keep that up,” he replied, mimicking her playful gesture.

She kissed him hungrily, and pressed her lower stomach against his thickening cock.

There was a knock at the door.

Oh, my God! Could there be any worse timing!

Levi sighed. “At least someone is trying to make sure you rest.”

“Yes, and I’ll see them flogged for doing so!”

“I’ll see who it is.” He rolled out of bed and grabbed his pants.

She watched intently, as he tugged the jeans over that well-rounded ass of his. She flopped onto her back in frustration as he left the room.

Flogged!

She got out of bed and stomped into her pajamas, the mood effectively killed.

Levi finally strolled back into the bedroom.

“Who was it?” Paige asked, running a brush through her hair.

“Miranda,” he replied. “She wants to talk to us, if you feel up to it.”

“Might as well, since we aren’t doing anything else,” she said, sardonically.

Levi grinned. “To be continued.”

“Damn right,” she agreed. “I like my ‘rest’ with a few mind-blowing orgasms.”

His brows lifted. “She’s waiting in the living room.”

Paige bit her lip in embarrassment. “You could have told me that sooner.”

“Sorry.” He shrugged, innocently. “I don’t think she heard anything.”

Paige rolled her eyes. “Put a shirt on, Tarzan. Let’s see what she wants.”

They made their way to the living room, and sure enough, there sat Miranda on the sofa, sipping a cup of tea. She smiled the most elegant smile at Paige. “I’m so glad you’re feeling better.”

“Thanks. I owe Troy and Rhea for the bandages and herbs.”

“Not to worry, those items are of little expense.”

“That’s not what I meant.”

“I know,” Miranda replied. “Still, do not concern yourself.”

“I owe you, and the others, for helping us out,” Paige continued, taking a seat across from the poised woman. She didn’t want to make light of what had happened, or what the coven had done for her and Levi.

Miranda set her cup down. “Perhaps we can come to an arrangement.”

Paige narrowed her eyes, knowingly. “This is about me staying here, isn’t it?”

“Yes,” Miranda answered. “And I want you to join this coven.”

“What does that mean exactly?”

“There would be a small ceremony for your initiation,” she began. “You would need to live here, in one of the cabins of course. And you would be required to study the art of magic, and become the most powerful witch you can be, so that you can help defend this coven against its enemies.”

“Well, that’s a lot to take in, especially the whole ‘my enemy is your enemy’ part.”

“I won’t lie to you. There are dangers out there for people like us. More than just the garden variety car wrecks, diseases, and serial killers. The wraith you battled is just one of many such creatures that will threaten your life. You are a witch. That means the supernatural will be drawn to you, or you drawn to it, in one fashion or another. Your chances for survival will be better if you’re sheltered within a coven, but even then, the danger is still great.”

Paige frowned. “You’re not selling this very well.”

“As I’ve been told,” Miranda replied, dryly. “But everything I’ve said is the truth, nonetheless.”

Paige didn’t doubt that. She’d lived with the supernatural for some time now, and it truly was a pain in the ass. That didn’t mean adding more of that kind of trouble made Miranda’s offer any more appealing. Though having sisters to help shoulder the burden and to learn from wasn’t such a bad perk.

She glanced at Levi. And then there’s my lover. I can’t walk away from what we have, what we’ve been through. It’d kill me just as surely as The Headless Man would have.

“You don’t have to join right away,” Miranda offered. “You can stay and think it over.”

I owe her that much, at the very least. “I’ll consider it and let you know.”

Miranda smiled. “Good, I’m glad to hear it.” She stood. “I should be going then. If you need anything, I’ll be up at the house.”

Paige and Levi watched her go in silence. They sat there, tangled in their own thoughts for some time. Paige got to her feet and started pacing. She considered Salem her home, the one place where she actually fit in. Even so, when she thought about who she knew and cared for, she found them to be here at Coven’s Grove. As much as she loved the place, the prospect of going back to Salem saddened her. Here there were opportunities to learn, to become something beyond the ordinary. Here, there could be love.

Why am I even debating this? Maybe I’ve been alone for too long... She stopped in front of Levi. “What are you thinking?”

“I’m afraid to say.”

“I need your input on this—”

“I want you to stay,” he interrupted, “but I’ll be going with you, if you decide to leave.” He wrapped his arms around her legs and pressed the side of his face against her stomach. “I can’t be without you.”

She ran her fingers through his jet black hair, tears blurring her vision. “I can’t be without you either.”

“Then it’s settled.” He looked up at her. “We’re together, no matter what.”

“No matter what.”
