The Reunion by Leslie Johnson (6)

Six

“Wake up, sleepy head.”

I forgot, Archer is a morning person. Yuck.

“Shhhh. Let me sleep a little longer and I’ll let you see my boobs again.” I try to entice him into letting me go back to bed.

“Babe, I can see your boobies right now.” Archer chuckles and I toss a pillow in the general direction. “You were always grumpy in the morning.”

“Can you blame me? You kept me up all night with some very vigorous activities.”

“If I remember correctly you begged me more than once for those activities.”

The bed dips when Archer sits down and I crack open an eye. His hair is wet and he’s already dressed removing the possibility of getting him naked again.

“You’re determined to get me up aren’t you?”

“Yep. I have something planned for today and you’re wasting precious time.”

“Where are we going?” I ask sitting up and letting the sheet pool in my lap giving Archer the full frontal view.

Archer leans over and sucks a nipple into his mouth his hand covering the other breast. Maybe naked time isn’t out of the picture.

“Stop trying to distract me woman,” Archer says pulling away from my nipple and moving across the hotel room to put distance between us.

“Go get dressed. I’ll go get breakfast and meet you at your room in forty-five minutes.”

I pout hoping he will come back and finish what I started but it seems Archer isn’t going to be swayed.

“Can I get a kiss?” I ask putting on my dress from last night giggling when I realize I will be doing the walk of shame.

“Nope. I don’t’ trust you.” Archer stays on the other side of the room while I get dressed his eyes roaming over me in a seductive gaze, but he still won’t budge.

“Fine.” After telling him what room I’m in I sneak out into the hallway and run to my room.

I giggle again when I make it safely in my room glad nobody caught me sneaking out of Archer Frost’s hotel room.

With only forty-five minutes to get ready I jump in the shower excited about what Archer has planned. When we were younger we would hang out at the park or sail on the local lake just enjoying each others company. I wonder if Archer will lead me even further down memory lane and take me to our old hangouts. Maybe going out with him is a bad idea. I’m only here for a week do I really want to put my heart in jeopardy of being mutilated?

There’s a knock on my door as these thoughts hit me. My heart is hammering against my chest trying to propel me to answer the door while my mind is looping all the reasons why this is a bad idea. In the end my heart wins and I open the door.

Archer drives as we snack on the warm bagels he brought back.

“Where are we going?” I ask when I notice we passed the park and were headed the opposite direction of the lake.”

“You’ll see,” Archer says mysteriously putting his hand on my thigh as he continues to drive.

“A carnival?” I say in shock.

“Come on it will be fun.” Archer jumps out of the truck and walks over to open my door.

I take the time alone to get my features schooled. A carnival is just like Archer I try to push down my disappointment being that I’m only here a short time, but it was tough to get down. Why would I think he would start taking life seriously? This was Archer and he was never going to grow up.

Archer holds my hand as we walk around the rides. The sounds of screaming and laughing kids assault my eardrums a constant reminder of the childish place we are at.

“Come on live a little, Nicole. This was always your problem you can’t let go.” Archer points at the roller coaster in front of us and all I can do is shake my head.

“That’s funny because I always thought that was a good thing. You were the one who never wanted to grow up and be responsible.”

Archer grabs my hand in his. He winks at me pulling my hand to his lips placing a searing kiss on my knuckles and I resist my heart from leaping to him once again.

“Babe, I promise I’m not as irresponsible as you think I am.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I’ll show you later. Come on and have fun with me. Anything you want to do.”

I turn around and look at the craziness around me and sigh.

“Cotton Candy?”

My eyes land on the midway and an evil idea forms. “I’ll let go and not be responsible for the rest of the night if you win me a stuffed animal.”

Archer’s eye light up and I know what he’s thinking so I stop him before he can best me.

“Not just a wimpy animal either. I’m talking one of the big suckers.”

“Devious.”

Archer grabs my hand and leads me through the midway.

“What are you waiting for?” I tease him but he doesn’t stop. His mission clear.

We stop in front of a dart game and Archer takes out a wad of cash showing the Carney he means business.

I stop counting how much Archer spends and laugh every time he reaches into his back pocket the determination evident on his face.

My laughing ends when Archer hit his target and is announced a winner. He points at the large frog hanging on the side.

“My lady.” Archer bows as he hands me the floppy frog who has seen better days.

I take the frog and smack a big kiss on his goofy smile. Stretching my arms out I stare at the frog and wait. When he stays just as he was I shake my head and stuff him under my arm.

“Why did you do that?”

“I was hoping to make him turn into a prince,” I answer him.

“Still kissing frogs? I thought you would grow out of that being all mature and adult like.”

“I can’t give up on everything. I’ll find my frog prince one of these days.”

“We’ll have to see what we can do about that. I wondered if you still had your frog fascination. That’s why I chose the dart game instead of the ring toss game. I wanted to get you that damn frog.” Archer leans down and kisses my forehead before taking my hand.

Why can’t he be more responsible? I shrug off the thought and follow him. My heart melts when he admits he had his eye on the frog the whole time.

“I wonder if we can get this big guy on the roller coaster,” Archer says leading me back toward the rides.

“Wait!” I scream.

“Nope, we had a deal.”
