Wade (Big Sky Lawmen Book 2) by Vanessa Devereaux (8)

Besides the time Wade had caught her and Travis in her bed, Sophie had never been so embarrassed and regretful in all her life. She pulled on her panties and jeans and then readjusted her bra where Wade had pushed one of the cups over her breast, and then put her t-shirt back on.

She sat down on the nearest chair, her legs and hands shaking.

Partly because of Cathy bursting in on them and hitting Wade. Secondly, she and Wade had been that close to finally having sex. She couldn’t remember wanting something so badly in all her life. Not just because of the physical pleasure it would bring her but because it was Wade who was about to make love to her.

Sophie ran her hands through her hair. Wade had taken off after Cathy, and he’d told Sophie to wait for him. Maybe she shouldn’t. She probably should find Wade, find Cathy, and apologize. However, Wade was right about one thing. When the two of them were together good sense went straight out the window. She nibbled on the nail of her index finger. She hadn’t done that for a long time, and damn, she’d been growing them out so nicely.

Hearing a noise out in the hallway, she looked up to see Wade standing in the door way, blood still oozing from the gash on his cheek. She was the one who deserved that trophy, not him. She should have stayed away from the dance tonight, not accepted Wade’s invitation to go someplace to talk. She definitely shouldn’t have kissed him back. The last one, well, no woman was that strong.

“Did you find Cathy?” asked Sophie.

He shook his head. “I even tried calling her cell, but she’s not answering. I think maybe it’s best that I let her calm down tonight.”

“I’m sorry.”

“It’s not your fault. And don’t feel so bad because even if you hadn’t come back to Glacier Valley I wasn’t sure I saw a future for us.”

Sophie looked at him.

“You made me realize that for certain,” he said.

“Oh Wade…I.”

He lifted his hand to stop her saying any more. “You coming home to Glacier Valley is a blessing in disguise. It’s better I figured that out before I thought about marrying her and being miserable for the rest of my life and probably making her unhappy, too.”

Was he just saying that to make her feel better? No, Wade was the kind of guy who never hid his feelings. A straight shooter if ever there was one.

“I think you should get your face looked at,” said Sophie.

“You mean because it’s ugly.”

Sophie laughed. “Nope, but it’s still bleeding. Here let me take a look. Sit down where I can check you out.”

He walked to the chair and sat. Some blood had splattered onto his white shirt. She tilted Wade’s head back slightly so the light hit his cheekbone.

“Maybe you should go to the ER and have them look at it.”

“Nope, certainly not.”

“You’re not scared, are you?”

He slapped her butt. “If I’m going to have a nurse look at it, I want it to be you.”

“I’m an interior designer, not a doctor.”

“You could always pretend to be my nurse.”

“Wade Linley. You are a bad boy.”

“How about you come home with me and tend to my injuries?”

“You know if I do that what’s going to happen between us?”

“That’s what I’m counting on. Like Pops said we should have found somewhere private to have sex.”

“What about Grans?”

“I love Emily, but I’m not having sex with her.”

“Wade Linley.” Sophie slapped him across the arm. “I meant to say I’m supposed to be home for her not having sex with you.”

Wade reached into his back pocket and pulled out his cell phone. He handed it to her. “Call your grandmother and tell her not to worry and that I got a little hurt and you’re helping me. Tell her not to wait up for you.”

Sophie took it from him, at first hesitating but then realized she was putty in his hands. Always had been, always would be. And not to mention her panties were drenched at just the thought of having Wade deep inside her. She was guessing he’d be the best lover in the whole world.

She punched in the numbers and looked at Wade as the number rang.

“Hi, Grans.”

“Sophie, where have you been? Nelson’s closed over an hour ago. You run into old friends or what?”

“Actually it’s Wade I’m with. He had a slight accident, and I’m going to check him out at his house.”

“Oh goodness me. Nothing serious is it? He didn’t get hurt doing any private eye work?”

Wade must have heard her comment, and he pulled a face. “No, Grans, nothing like that.”

“Isn’t Cathy there for him?”

“Nope, she went home.”

“Oh dear, hope everything’s okay between them. Okay, Sophie, do you have your key because I lock all the doors in about thirty minutes?”

“Yep, Grans, don’t worry about me.”

“Okay, sweetie. Say hello to Wade for me.”

“I will. Love you, Grans.”

“You, too, and be safe.”

Sophie pressed the end call button.

“She knows something is going on between you and me.”

“Yeah, that lady always had a sixth sense,” said Wade.

*****

Sophie had followed Wade home in Grans’s car because she had no idea where he lived. She noticed the left blinker on his car flashing, and then he turned onto one of the roads on the very outskirts of Glacier Valley. As she drove along, Sophie tried to guess which house belonged to Wade. He finally turned into one at the end of the street, and Sophie pulled in behind him and turned off the ignition. She got out and looked at the house. It was one of the smaller ones in the neighborhood, and the garden was immaculate. The grass had recently been mowed, and even a few planters with flowers sat on the railing of the front porch. Wade tipped his hat back and called to her.

“You coming in, or are you going to stand there checking out my home to figure out what you can do to change it?”

She followed him up the steps and waited while he unlocked the door. As she stepped over the threshold she sensed that when she walked back out of this place everything would be different between them. There’d be no going back. Her and Wade’s relationship would change from old friends to them finally being lovers.

He switched on the light, and Sophie smiled. Just as she’d expected it to be, the living room had I’ve been furnished by a male written all over it. One couch, one chair, a TV on the wall, a coffee table and a bookshelf, and that was it.

“You have I want to give this place a makeover written all over your face,” Wade said, tossing his car keys into a dish on the bookshelf. He took off his hat and placed it on the chair.

“I’m an interior designer. It’s what I do.”

“No, you’re a woman, and that’s what they do.”

Sophie smiled. “Please let me do something with this place for you.”

Wade pulled her in close and smiled.

“You probably could twist my arm to do just that, but you’d have to be really nice to me first.”

“Um, sounds like sexual harassment.”

He kissed her on the tip of her nose. “It can’t be classified as that if the recipient enjoys it…wants it.”

“You mean being nice like this?”

Sophie let her hand slide down his chest and then further south until it rested on his crotch. She gave his cock a playful squeeze, and even though the thickness of his jeans she felt he was already hard.

“See what you do to me,” he said. “This is going to be the toughest night of my life. On the one hand I want to tear your clothes off and take you right now, right here on the floor. The other part of me what’s to take it slow, make it last for hours until finally neither of us can stand any more foreplay, and I finally sink inside you like I’ve always dreamed about.”

She put her finger of his mouth to stop him from saying another word, but instead he kissed it and then took it inside his mouth.

“Wade.”

“Yes, Soph.”

“Let’s get your face checked out before we do anything else.”

He took her hand and led her through the hallway to the bathroom. He turned on the light, lowered the toilet seat lid, and sat down.

“The hydrogen peroxide and antiseptic cream are in the cupboard over the sink. Cotton balls are in the one underneath it,” he said.

Sophie gathered the supplies and set everything down on the vanity.

“You should take your shirt off and soak it because it has some blood on it.”

“How about the nurse doing that for me?”

Sophie undid the top button and then the next one, and then the third, all the time not taking her eyes off Wade’s face. She got to the bottom one, flicked it open and then pulled on both sides of the shirt before easing it down his arms and off his wrists. She placed it in the sink and ran the cold water, letting it soak in there while she got back to tending to her patient.

A distracting one for any nurse to contend with.

Last time she’d seen his bare chest he’d been Cathy’s boyfriend. Now it seemed they were history which meant… She ran her hands over the muscles in his upper chest, his hair trickling her palm. He drew in his breath as she glided the very tips of her fingers over his nipples. He closed his eyes. His chest was firm and strong. Not that Wade the teenager had been weak and puny by any means, but in the last eight years his body had evolved into something quite spectacular.

She got back to her nursing duties. Sophie took some cotton balls, ran them under the tap and then patted gently onto the cut on his cheek.

He breathed in quickly, this time obviously from pain. “Are you going to be a baby?” asked Sophie, trying to be gentler as she dabbed away some dried blood.

“I’ve never been a baby.”

“Not much. Do you remember the time you stepped on that broken bottle down by the lake?”

“Soph, that gash took a dozen stitches to close, and I was eleven.”

“You going to be okay when I put the hydrogen peroxide on your face?”

“I am not a baby, but just in case it stings, how about you do it topless so I’ll have something to focus on.”

“You know this isn’t covered by your medical insurance.” She took off her t-shirt without hesitation because this was Wade who was doing the requesting.

“That’s a cute bra,” he said, fingering the lace edging.

“Thank you. I bought it in a little boutique in downtown Seattle.”

“I like it, but I’ll probably like what’s underneath it a whole lot better.”

She reached behind her back and unclasped it. Wade caught the front of it as it fell from her body. He placed it gently on the bathroom floor.

Sophie didn’t have to ask him if he liked what he saw because his eyes said it all. They were wide, and he was smiling. She closed her eyes as he touched her nipples and then ran his hand over and under each breast.

“You grew into a beautiful woman, Soph.”

“Thank you. Now are you going to be brave while I finish seeing to that gash?”

“I will.”

As she leaned in to wipe his face, he played with her nipples, pulling them, rolling them. They hardened and ached, and she almost dropped the bottle of hydrogen peroxide. As she wiped his face he pulled harder on her breasts.

“Sorry,” he whispered, and then he took her breasts in his hands and squeezed them. At that point Sophie creamed. It was sheer torture, and maybe she should let him take her on the bathroom floor.

She dabbed some lotion on to his face as he tugged at her jeans before opening them up.

He grabbed her and kissed her navel. She ran her hands through his hair.

Wade pulled her jeans down her legs, and being that they were so tight, her panties went with them.

Sophie stepped out of them. Wade pulled her close and sucked on her right nipple as his hand went between her legs. He wiped his fingers over her folds and then brought his hand out and held it up to her. His fingers glistened with her juices.

“Is this for me and only me?” he asked her.

“No man’s ever made me this excited and so quickly.”

He pushed his hand in between her thighs again, this time easing his middle finger up inside her slit. He plunged in and out as he took one of her nipples in this mouth and sucked in perfect rhythm with his finger.

Sophie ran her fingers through his hair, pumped her hips hoping he’d know she wanted him to move faster and deeper.

Wade sucked like a baby trying to get the last drop of milk from its mother’s breast.

Heat pooled in her pussy and womb. She sensed she was close to a wonderful orgasm. She clenched his finger while feeling the waves building. He obviously did, too, because he whispered onto her chest.

“Come for me, Soph.”

She’d never said no to anything he’d asked her to do. She squeezed her thighs knowing that’s all it would take to go to paradise with Wade’s finger buried deep in her core.

Sophie cried out, and held Wade’s shoulders as her belly flipped and her heart beat faster. She kissed the top of Wade’s head hoping he’d know that was a private thank you.

“That’s my payment to you for services rendered,” he said.

“Wow, what do you do if you owe lots of money?”

“Fuck you all night.”

“Let me finish my treatment by putting a Band-Aid on that cut, and maybe we can think about you doing just that.”

“Top shelf, over the sink.”

She turned around feeling Wade’s hand exploring her butt cheeks.

“You’re beautiful from behind, too.”

She turned back and set the Band-Aid across his cheek.

“How about I check other parts of your body as well,” she said, tugging on his zipper.

“I think that sounds like a good idea.”

He stood and raised his hands slightly so she could unbutton his jeans and pull down the fly.

In the room at the dance she’d only gotten a quick flash of his cock. Not enough to see it in any detail and as she pulled on the waistband of his boxers it was almost like opening a birthday gift.

Sophia eased them over his hips and legs, letting them fall to the ground.

She glanced down, noticing his dick sitting up on his belly. It was gorgeous as she’d expected it to me. She ran her hand down the shaft, feeling some pre-cum seeping from its head.

“Soph,” he whispered.

“Yes.”

“I want to carry you into the bedroom now.”

“As long as you don’t drop me.”

He kissed her. “I promise I won’t.”

In one fluid movement, her lifted her up and held his arms under his upper thighs as she placed her arms around his neck. She rested her head on his shoulder as he made his way out of the bathroom and along the hallway.

She imagined this is what their honeymoon night would have been like, him being so romantic, carrying her to their bed to begin their life as husband and wife.

He kicked open the door with his foot and stepped inside the bedroom.

She looked at the quilt and smiled at the grey and white stripes. That needed a makeover, too.

“Hey, I saw that look, and don’t ruin things,” said Wade.

He placed her down gently on top of it. She rested her head back on the pillow.

Sophie suddenly had a horrible thought. She didn’t want to bring it up, but she had to.

“Wade?”

“Yes,” he said getting on the bed with her.

“Did you…did you make love to Cathy in this bed?” He shook his head and stroked the edge of her cheek.

“Nope, you will be the first and last woman I make love to here.”

He leaned over and kissed her, running his hand down her body and onto her thigh. She shuddered because it tickled.

“Let’s pretend it’s 2009 again and we’re both virgins,” Wade said.

“I like the sound of rewinding the clock back, but virgins, that doesn’t sound like much fun.”

“Oh, it will be.”

He kissed her again, this time easing her onto her back. He rested his head on his hand and sat there looking at her.

“What?” asked Sophie.

“As a virgin, I’m wondering what to do with you.”

“See I told you it wasn’t a good idea,” she said.

“How about I kiss your ankles and work my way up those sexy legs of yours?”

“No tickling me though.”

“Yeah, you always were ticklish.”

He scooted down to the end of the bed and raised one of her feet up and gently planted a kiss on her ankle.

“So soft and your skin smells great, too,” he said, before making his way up to her calf then her thigh. “I read in a magazine that I need to play with your clit so you’ll get all wet and ready for me.”

“You know where it is?” asked Sophie.

“I guess I’ll have to go looking for it. Would it be here?”

He eased her thighs apart. It would be the first time he’d seen her pussy, and she wondered what was going through his mind.

“Soph, you have such beautiful folds and slit. Prettiest I’ve ever seen.”

He reached out, and Sophie closed her eyes as he passed his thumb over her clit and then traced each of her folds. He spread her labia. Cream oozed out of her opening.

“Wade.”

“Yes, Soph.”

“I don’t think I can wait much longer.”

“Me, neither. I forgot the condoms are in the bathroom.” He was about to get off the bed, but Sophie stopped him.

“I don’t know if you trust me enough, but I’m on the Pill. Not for birth control but I have heavy periods, and the doctor prescribed them. I’d like our first time to be as we’d planned, no condoms.”

He stroked her face. “If you can trust me, too. And I promise you on my life I’ve always used condoms with the women I’ve slept with.”

“And I’ve always practiced safe sex.”

“Oh, Soph, do you remember we said we’d try and get pregnant on our honeymoon?”

Sophie nodded, almost tearing up.

“Hey, don’t cry because this is supposed to be special.”

“I know.”

He kissed her and then placed himself between her thighs.

Sophie didn’t know whether to close her eyes or look at Wade as he ever so gently and in a way only he could, slid inside her. He filled and stretched her. It was everything she imagined it would be and a whole lot more.

He gave the tiniest of thrusts. “Ouch,” said Sophie.

“Hey, sorry did I hurt you?”

She gripped his biceps. “Sure you did. You remember I’m a virgin.”

He laughed, and she reached up and stroked him. “Okay enough with the ‘we’re two innocent virgins’.”

Wade thrust again, this time harder. He didn’t take his eyes off Sophie as he moved back and forth inside her.

She stroked his chest as his thrust got wilder, his cock bumping into her G-spot every other movement.

Sophie set her head back some more and lifted her legs up and crossed them at the ankles.

She gripped his arms, tracing the well-defined muscles with her fingers as he rode above her. Perspiration started to form on his forehead as he thrust hard and deeper.

Taking a deep breath, Sophie felt the first stirrings in her pussy and up in her womb. Soon she’d have her first orgasm brought on by having sex with her true love. Ripples of pleasure shot down her legs and then back up. She was on the edge of wanting to hold it there in time, but at the same time wanted to get to the conclusion.

“Wade.”

She called out his name as she climaxed. She cried because it was so wonderful. She’d become emotional, and that was her release.

Wade panting hard, breathed like he was getting labored and then shouted Sophie’s name as he filled her.

They breathed in unison. Her feeling and hearing his heartbeat as he rested gently on top of her.

“Can I stay inside you for a while?” asked Wade. Sophie nodded, pushing some stray hair out of his eyes. “I love you, Soph.”

“I love you, too.”

He eased out of her, kissed her and then rolled onto the bed beside her.

Without saying anything he lifted up his arm placed it around her, and she turned and snuggled into him.

“Good?” he asked.

“So much better than good.”

“I thought so, too. You know what I hope?”

“What?” asked Sophie.

“That your Pill doesn’t work and that I’ve gotten you pregnant. That right now a little Linley is being made inside you.”

Hearing that, Sophie couldn’t help it. She pulled away and turned her back, hoping he didn’t see her cry.

He hadn’t intended to make her cry. She turned over swiftly, but he’d seen her eyes become glazed. He knew her well enough to sense she was on the brink of tears. Wade didn’t think she’d be that upset at the thought of getting pregnant. Was it just having a baby in general she didn’t like or just the thought of having his?

“Soph, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to ruin things for us.”

“It’s okay,” she sobbed.

“Something’s the matter. I know you’re not the sort of girl to cry over something trivial.”

She turned back over, her eyes red and already a little puffy. “I’ve never told you this. Only Grans…Grans and Travis have ever known.”

“Known what?”

“The real reason I married Travis.”

“The real reason. You mean besides the one about him sweeping you off your feet.”

“Oh Wade. He didn’t exactly sweep me off my feet. I mean I did find him fascinating and…”

She broke down in tears again.

“It’s okay. Just tell me, and it will be all out and done with,” Wade said. He put his arms around her, rocked her back and forth while kissing her head.

“Remember we’d had the argument about us waiting until we’d maybe been to college to get married.”

“Yep, I still regret doing that. I don’t know what got into me.”

“I was angry, and Travis invited me to his room. So I thought…”

“You thought what, Soph?”

“So in my anger, and yes, my immaturity, I thought I might as well give my virginity away to him.”

Wade took a deep breath.

“There’s more, isn’t there? I mean, that’s not what you’re crying about.”

“I got pregnant.”

He closed his eyes, squeezing them so tight he thought the action would cause him to lose his sight.

“My period was late, which it never had been before, so I went to Grans and told her. She said not to worry, but then I told her I’d had sex. She thought it was with you, but I didn’t have the courage to tell her I’d slept with one of the guests. She got me a pregnancy test, and when it said positive she said not to worry because you and I were going to get married anyway. But then I told her it wasn’t your baby.”

“Soph, why didn’t you tell me?”

“I knew you’d be hurt, you’d hate me for sleeping with the first guy who came along after we’d had our misunderstanding.”

He took a deep breath. That was true.

“Grans was angry. First time she’d ever raised her voice to me and said I’d ruined my life. And you know how forceful she can be? She made Travis propose to me. He didn’t hesitate, and he asked me right before you caught us together.”

“Shit, I never knew. God, I wish I’d known all this.”

“Can you forgive me?”

He looked down, momentarily lost for words. If she’d asked him that eight years ago the answer would have been “No, I can, never ever forgive you”, but they’d moved on. “Soph, I won’t lie and tell you my heart wasn’t broken. It shattered into tiny pieces, but we all make mistakes which means we also have to eventually forgive one another.” He looked up at her. “And the baby? Does this mean you and Travis have a child in Seattle?”

Sophie shook her head as a tear flew off her face.

“Nope, I had a miscarriage six weeks after we got married.”

Wade rubbed his hands over his face. He hadn’t expected to hear any of this, not tonight, not ever. He had to admit he was shocked.

“And you and Travis never tried for more?”

“No, I wanted to, but Travis decided he wasn’t father material. That’s why we got divorced.”

He pulled her in close and kissed the top of her head again. “I’m so sorry.”

“Yeah, the whole thing was a big stupid mistake.”

“And you didn’t think about coming back to Glacier Valley after your divorce?”

“I guess I was too embarrassed to face everyone. I know some people did hate me for going off with Travis, but Gran said she’d never reveal my secret unless I wanted her to.”

“Soph, I just wish I’d known. I mean all these years you’ve kept this secret to yourself.”

She kissed him.

“Can we never mention any of this ever again?” asked Sophie.

“It’s fine with me.”

He looked at her. If only he’d been there for her, protected her.

Gone to Seattle to see her when she and Travis parted ways they might have worked things out…even been married by now.

“However, you have to promise me no more secrets between us ever, okay?” He wrapped his arms around her and squeezed her tight, hoping she’d never leave his bed. Never leave his life and Glacier Valley ever again. This was where she belonged, and even if she didn’t think that, too, he’d move heaven and earth to convince her otherwise.

Wade kissed her cheek and then her neck, making a silly noise against her skin.

“That tickles me,” said Sophie.

“Good, that’s what I wanted it to do.”

He ran his hands over her breasts and pulled at her nipples.

They turned to tiny buds in his fingers.

“You feel like making love again,” he whispered in her ear. “Oh yeah. I’d love to make up for all our lost time. How about you?”

“I could make love to you all night, all day, all eternity.” Sophie turned around and pushed him onto his back. “Then why don’t you?”

“I’m game if you are.”

She slid one leg over his thigh. “Okay, cowboy, you like it when a cowgirl takes charge.”

“I love it.  I can just lie here and let her do all the work.” Wade took a deep breath when he felt Sophie sliding down his body.

Oh boy, he wasn’t expecting her to take him into her mouth.

He closed his eyes as her fast little tongue ran over his shaft, flicked its head, and then she caressed his balls.

He liked it, loved it a lot. He ran his hands through her hair, feeling its silkiness against the rough skin of his fingers.

“Soph, I’m not going to ask how you learned to do this because I don’t want to know if it was with Travis or some other guy, but whoever it was they taught you well.”

She lifted his balls slightly and took his cock deep into her mouth. He had to pace himself. If he let himself go he’d ruin it. He’d come, and when he did he wanted to be inside Sophie again.

“Soph, stop.”

She did. “Something wrong?”

“Yep, you drive me crazy, and I want to be inside you when I see fireworks better than Glacier Valley’s Fourth of July display.”

She lifted her body off his, parted her thighs some more and then spread herself open.

What a sight to behold, pink, luscious, glistening.

Sophie took his cock and eased him inside her. Her warmth gripped and welcomed him as she lowered herself down and sat her body on the top of his thighs.

What he wouldn’t give to stay like this for all eternity. She rocked a little, sending his cock tipping backwards in her pussy. It was tight, hot, and he loved it. She rocked some more before lifting her thighs slightly and then gently easing back down on him. The movement made a smacking noise as she picked up her pace, all the while her breasts swaying and nipples shaking with each movement.

Sophie rolled her head back and lifted up her arms like she was riding the mechanic bull at the bar just outside of town. She raised them straight up, causing her breasts to lift higher. He reached up, stroking her taut belly as she swayed and whimpered.

She was beautiful all the time, but when she enjoyed her climax, well, her face was a work of art with its flushed cheeks and pretty eyes.

“Wade, Wade, I’m…”

“What honey?”

“I’m…

He pushed upwards to help her get there and almost laughed when she screamed and shouted. He wandered if his neighbors were home and if they were, if they’d heard her. Holy crap, the wolves in Yellowstone Park probably had.

Wade hoped she didn’t mind what he did next. He sat up, got hold of her and in one fluid movement set her on her left side on his bed and dived back into her. Gripping her hips, he pounded into her.

He played with her nipples, tugging and rolling them, kissing her neck, nipping at it as his own orgasm built. One more thrust and he saw those fireworks and filled her.

*****

Sophie woke when a soft cool breeze blew across her leg. She opened her eyes. It was dark, and she didn’t recognize where she was until she felt Wade’s arms around her and the tip of his cock nudging her crack. Now she remembered. It hadn’t been just a wonderful dream. They’d finally made love.

They must have fallen asleep on top of the bed, hence the breeze because the window was slightly open.

Wade stirred, and she hoped she hadn’t woken him. “You cold?” he asked.

Too late, I have.

“Yep.”

“Me, too. You want to snuggle under the covers with me and spend the night in my bed?”

“Nothing I’d like better.”

He lifted the blankets and sheet, and they huddled together. “I know you don’t approve of the quilt,” he said.

“I know it sucks.”

“We’ll go shopping one of these days.”

“I’m sure we will. I’m betting by the time you’re done, the whole of Glacier Valley will have a different look.”

He put his arm around her. “I’m going to start with Nelson’s Ice Cream Parlor. I couldn’t believe those were the same curtains hanging in their window.”

“Now how do you know they’re the same ones as when we were kids?”

“The stain on one of them, and the same cobwebs on the hem of the other were the dead giveaway.”

Wade laughed. “Good thing their ice cream is to die for.”

“Yeah, I could just eat some right now.”

She looked at him and raised her eyebrow.

“They’re closed, which is lucky for me,” said Wade.

“You think I’d make you go and buy me some?”

“Probably, and I promise you I will when you’re pregnant.”

“In that case, we better get to work,” Sophie said.

He smacked her backside. “You want to have a baby?”

“One day, yeah.”

“Me, too.”

“You think I could be its father.”

“I’ll give it serious consideration.” He smacked her backside again.

“Go to sleep,” he said.

*****

Wade woke up to find Sophie had invaded his pillow some time during the night. The first thing he saw was her lovely face. He thought about planting a kiss on her lips but then didn’t want to wake her. Not that he thought she needed to sleep longer but he wanted to observe her unaware.

He loved her so much that it took his breath away. Wade gently pulled a stray piece of hair from her eye. Her nose twitched, and he smiled. Yesterday evening had been quite something, Cathy catching him and Sophie together, her hitting him. He and Sophie making love for the first time. Her telling him the real reason she married Travis and left town. However, the most important thing was her spending the night in his bed.

Sophie turned onto her back causing the blanket to slip from her chest.

How he wanted to caress her nipples, take them in his mouth and make love to her all over again. But for now he’d just watch.

Watch, observe and admire.

One of Glacier Valley’s church bells rang out, and Sophie stirred on its third chime.

She opened one eye and then another and looked over at Wade who now had his head resting on his hand.

“Good morning,” he said.

“Morning.” She yawned and rubbed her eyes. “What time is it?”

“Just gone nine.”

“I bet Grans has discovered I didn’t spend the night in my old room.”

Wade leaned over and kissed her. “So what do you think she’s going to say about the two of us?”

“She already gave me a chat about that.”

“Us?”

Sophie nodded. “That you’d moved on and had Cathy, and if I thought otherwise I’d end up getting hurt.”

“But you didn’t, and you won’t.”

“I do want you to go and put things right with Cathy. I’d go with you, but I think that might make things worse.”

“I think you’re right. So that’s second on my list of things to do today. Third is going to my office and running that list of guests through the databases to see what I come up with.”

“And your first is to make Sophie breakfast in bed?”

“Nope, I’m going to make love to her.”

“Wade, I have to get back to Mountainview, and you have to get to Cathy’s. If we have sex again, we’ll be in this bed all day.”

“Now there’s a thought.”

“It’s not our honeymoon.”

“I know, just wishful thinking on my part.”

Wade flopped onto his back. “But you’ll be spending the night here with me, right?”

Sophie rolled on top of him. He placed his hands on the small of her back while they rubbed noses.

“You want me to?”

“I insist on it.”

“In that case I will. Now, I’m getting up, getting dressed, and going to Mountainview for some of Grans’s famous huckleberry pancakes.”

“Oh, save some for me. I’ll be by after lunch, okay.” He pinched her butt before she slid off the bed.

He put his hands behind his head and smiled, watching her lovely naked body before him. The breasts, those nipples, the curls at the top of her thighs, and the treasure that they hid.

She blew him a kiss and was gone.
