Wanted: Runaway Cowgirl (Kindle Worlds Novella) by Brynn Paulin (10)

~ Jorie ~

“Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, Mr. and Mrs. Nash Davidson.”

Nash and I turned to face those who’d come to witness our wedding. Standing beside him in the pavilion next to the lake, his fingers tightly laced with mine, I quickly glanced around. We were surrounded by all the people who loved us. My gran, my aunt and uncle, Ryder who seemed to be having a thing with Missy—and she gave us a hard time about keeping secrets. No matter how hard I hinted, they said nothing. Their lips were sealed.

Max and Dustin, along with Dustin’s flavor of the day were there. Beside them were Emma and Garrett Mathews, their grandson Gunner, who I’d known forever, and his wife Ellie, who I’d recently met. Turned out Ari from the pharmacy was her sister-in-law, and I was delighted she and her husband, Ellie’s brother Jeff, had come, too. So many others from Mason had joined us to witness our joyous event.

Even Nash’s mom was here—with her new boyfriend! That had taken Nash by surprise, but with my help, he was rolling with it. His mom was overjoyed at the idea of being a grandma, and I had a feeling we’d be seeing a lot more of her.

Even though I was solidly pregnant, Nash’s swimmers having completed the job that very first night, Gran had insisted we wait three months so she could throw us a proper wedding. Which I’d ended up planning at the ranch.

Nash leaned over to me while our guests clapped at the pronouncement. “Never getting away now.”

“Never want to,” I whispered back.

He wrapped his arm around me, his hand casually covering my stomach. I wasn’t showing yet, but the doctor said it was normal. Nash’s action wasn’t too obvious—or wouldn’t have been if so many people didn’t know my condition. Okay, pretty much everyone knew because my darling new husband basically yelled it from rooftops, or might as well do that anyway.

“How long before we can be alone?” he asked.

“Reception first.”

“Can’t ditch it?”

“I’m pretty sure they’d track us down.”

There was a reason we weren’t staying at the house tonight—privacy. We had no guests scheduled for the next three week, two of which, we’d be in Australia. Tonight, we were staying in Austin before flying out in the morning.

“How’s my boy treating you? We can use him as an excuse.”

“Our girl is just fine. We’re not leaving.”

“Fine.” He pulled me to him and kissed me hard, almost making me forget we were very much the center of attention. My hands curled into his chest while he cupped my cheek.

“I guess we didn’t need all these heaters to keep warm,” Max quipped. “You guys are making a fire yourselves.”

My cheeks flamed while Nash just laughed and pulled me even closer. “Make sure those are turned off, yeah?” he said to his friend.

“Got it, boss.”

“Everyone,” Nash called. “Thank you so much for being here. The reception’s all set up in the big white tent near the guest cabins. Head on over there, and get started. My bride and I will be there shortly.”

“Nash,” I hissed.

“I have to give Jorie her wedding present,” he finished, ignoring my protest. With that, he lifted me into his arms, yards of silk and tulle and all, and ran for his truck, parked a short distance away. I was tucked inside, and we were speeding off before I could come up with much of an argument.

“You’re incorrigible,” I laughed.

“Nah, I just love you. And I know how horny you are all the time. I’m telling you the pregnant thing is awesome!”

“So you say now. Wait ‘til three AM feedings and no sex for six weeks.”

He whined a little at that. “I guess we better get it in now. But for the record, I wasn’t lying. I really do want to give you your wedding present.”

“They’re all going to think we’re having sex,” I said dryly.

“And they might not be wrong.”

“What exactly is this wedding present?”

He parked next to one of the outlying barns. After helping me down, he took my hand and strode toward the doors. He threw them open, and the answer to my question was apparent.

“You got me a truck?”

He smirked, shrugging. “I need you to be safe, especially with our little guy aboard.”

His hand cupped over my belly again then he leaned forward and kissed me there. He didn’t linger. Taking my hand, he led me to the driver’s side. On the door of the deep-blue truck was the Lazy D insignia in white with the words Davidson Ranch beneath it.

He dangled the keys before me. “Brand new. Fully loaded with all the bells and whistles.”

I snatched the keys from him and clicked to unlock the door.  “Just so you know, you make me crazy when you do stuff like this.”

“No, I make you safe.” Nash lifted me up onto the seat and then stepped between my legs. “I make you crazy when I do this,” he corrected, pushing up my skirt.

I couldn’t help but grin. He did more than that. He gave me everything—he was everything.

“Well…” I challenged. “Let’s be a little unsafe. Get up here and let’s christen my new truck—you know, since everyone thinks we’re doing that anyway.”

“With pleasure.” And as he climbed up into the cab with me and did his best to give me all the pleasure, I knew this was just the start of happily ever after with him, just the start of something from which I’d never, ever, ever want to run.
