Torch by KB Winters (12)

Epilogue

Torch 7 months later

Life was good. I couldn’t remember the last time I could say that about my life and it have any truth. I had the woman I love by my side, my club and my brothers were safe, and I had a baby on the way.

That baby was the reason I stood in front of the stove making breakfast for my fiancée to be. On the menu this morning, waffles, bacon, and eggs with lots of syrup. By request because my woman was hungry. For life. For food, and for her man. I loved her zest for life, her hunger for me. And more than anything I couldn’t wait to make her my wife. Which I planned to do this morning over breakfast. I’d recruited Talon to help me pick out the perfect ring for a classy chick like Kyla but also for a biker’s wife because she swore she’d gut me if I ever called her my ol’ lady.

I heard her footsteps on the stairs before she appeared in the kitchen, a crazed look on her face and gorgeous red hair sticking up in all directions. “Torch!”

She looked so damn adorable I just wanted to kiss her, but the tiny hairs on my body all stood on end. “What’s up, Ky?”

Hands gliding over her belly, she inhaled deeply and let it out slowly. “My water broke.”

“What? No! You sure?” We still had a couple more weeks before the babies were due. Yeah, we found out at five months that we were having twins. One was a girl but the other kid took after me, hiding from the camera so we could never get a good look at him. Or her.

She glared at me, still breathing slowly and deeply. “Pretty fucking sure, Torch.”

Her tone kicked my ass into gear more than anything else could have. “Sit and eat. I’ll bring everything to you,” I told her as I guided her to the table and then ran upstairs to grab clothes for her to wear plus the go bag I packed about five months ago. I jumped into a pair of jeans and a long sleeve t-shirt because I didn’t want any fucking hassle at the hospital today. I shoved the ring into my pocket because I didn’t want to give up on my proposal, especially now that our babies were on the way.

“Torch, if you don’t hurry up I’m going to have these babies between eggs and OJ!”

I laughed and made my way back to her, dressing her while she continued to eat and breathe deeply. “You’re still the most beautiful fucking thing I’ve ever seen,” I told her, taking in the flushed pink of her skin and the soft sheen of sweat covering her face.

“I love you, Torch, but if you don’t get me to the hospital and get these giant fucking babies out of me, we’re gonna have a big problem.”

I probably shouldn’t have laughed as I carried her to the car, but dammit she was so fucking cute when she got angry. Which had been a lot during this pregnancy, though never for long. “Baby, my big problem is how you got this way.” She said nothing for a long time and then erupted in a fit of laughter so violent I was worried she’d push the babies out right there in the passenger seat.

“You are completely ridiculous, but I love you anyway.”

Damn right she did. “Good because I love you too. Now focus on your breathing,” I told her, guiding her through the exercises we learned in birthing class. That had been a trip, my big ass on the floor with a bunch of soccer dads, deep breathing and molesting Kyla’s belly in rehearsal for this moment. “In two, three, four. Out two, three, four.”

We pulled up to the hospital, and I grabbed her bag and then Kyla before rushing inside. “Sir, you can’t park here!”

I looked over my shoulder at the security guard frowning at me. “Come here.” He approached slowly, testing my fucking patience as Kyla panted and groaned through her contractions in my ear. “Take these and park it wherever. We’ll be in maternity.” I moved toward the front desk without waiting for an answer. In no time at all we were in a room inside the maternity ward with Kyla breathing slowly and me pacing the room.

“Torch, you are driving me crazy. Sit down!”

Shit. The last thing I wanted to do was freak her out more since she was pushing two babies out today so I sat. “Sorry. How you doing?”

“Fine,” she panted. “These children of yours are stubborn as hell!”

I laughed and grabbed one of her hands. There would never be a perfect time so I figured this might be it. “You know I had a plan this morning before my stubborn babies interrupted us.” I pulled out the ring box and held it in the palm of my hand. “I wanted to ask you while you were full of sugar and bacon, but this seems right with our babies on the way and you screaming my name.” I winked, and she laughed. “So sweetheart, will you spend the next eighty years loving and laughing with me?”

“Are you crazy? There is no way in hell that my proposal story starts with me sweaty, gross, and panting like a goddamn St. Bernard! When your giant babies are out of me, ask again!” Then she screamed so long and loud I thought maybe an Aliens type deal was happening.

I rolled my eyes at her. “Maybe you should ask me next time,” I told her as two nurses finally entered the fucking room.

“After pushing giant infants out of my lady parts, you want me to be the one to propose?”

I ignored the snickering nurses, checking vitals and between her legs. “Well, I did just ask you so…”

She screamed again and one of the nurses shouted for someone to get the doctor to our room ASAP.

“Don’t think you can use contractions to get out of this,” I told her, feeling a huge sense of satisfaction when her glare was cut off by another contraction. Soon they came closer and closer together, and finally the doctor entered with a breezy smile that made me want to shake the hell out of her, and three hours later our twins arrived. “They’re beautiful sweetheart.”

She smiled, looking so fucking beautiful with red tendrils stuck to her face and neck, a rosy glow on her cheeks. “Where are they?”

“The nurses took them to be cleaned and weighed. They’ll be back soon. You did great, baby,” I stroked her hair and kissed her forehead. “I love you.”

“Oh, Torch, I love you too. Our babies are here!” She smiled so big and bright, looking so happy I knew Mick had been right all those months ago.

“I’m the luckiest bastard alive that such a beautiful, smart, amazing woman like you loves me.”

She blinked and I knew tears were coming, so I held her and kissed her until she needed to catch a breath. “You really are the sweetest, sexiest man alive.”

“Here we are, Mom and Dad.” One of the nurses wheeled our little bundles in, and I took a deep breath knowing the moment had arrived. “Good luck,” she whispered and quietly left us alone.

“I’m guessing you want to hold them both?” Of course she did.

“Of course I do!” She held her hands out in a gimme motion and I picked up our twins, a boy and a girl, swaddled in blankets made by Minx. I double checked to make sure they were perfect, lifted them and turned to face her.

“Mama, meet our son and daughter.” We hadn’t figured out names since we only knew the sex of one of the babies, so we had to figure it out. Eventually.

She looked at me then down at the blankets, gasped, and then smiled. “I thought you were gonna ask me again?”

I shrugged. “Don’t blame me. The children want their parents married. Do it for the children.”

With a laugh, she leaned back in bed and crossed her arms. “Now this right here is one hell of a proposal story. Marry me blankets are too cute for words.”

“Answer my proposal, woman!”

She laughed again, swiping tears from her eyes and nodded. The woman fucking nodded!

“Kyla. Say the words.”

“Yes, Torch, I’d love to marry you. I can’t wait to be your wife, now come give me a kiss.”

I gave her one hell of a kiss with our gorgeous dark-haired babies between us. Only time would tell if they were gingers or dark-haired kids, but I didn’t give a damn as long as they were healthy.

“Now gimme my babies!”

I handed her the girl so I could free my hand to put the ring on her finger. “Now it’s official. You’re mine forever, Kyla.”

“And ever,” she whispered on a shaky breath, kissing the top of our daughter’s head.

“Damn straight, darlin’.”
