Alpha's Wolf: An MM Mpreg Romance (Northern Pines Den Book 4) by Susi Hawke (8)

Liam

After several days of slipping back and forth between our homes, service was installed and Jules was ready to move. He and Sean were going along with two men from a local wolf pack that lived in a lodge nearby. Frankie was much happier about it, because he had actually been able to establish a routine for the target.

Apparently, the alpha-bitch liked her frappuccinos. She would go out every morning at 7 a.m. to a local coffee place. Then she would make a call before heading back to the wolf territory. Frankie had checked the number she called everyday. It was listed in her phone as "Lovah" and the number was unlisted.

Today, the men would take her down outside of the coffee shop. Jules was prepared with scent blockers for everyone involved. She wouldn't know the shifters were there until it was too late.

"Jules." Frankie came walking in with a small metal case in hand. "I have an answer to the problem of detaining Yvonne. These are unbreakable, and will restrain any alpha who wears them."

He handed the case to a curious Jules, who opened it and pulled out an exquisite silver chain with little glowing stones woven into it every three inches. The other item was a pair of matching bracelets that linked together like handcuffs.

Jules looked up at Frankie. "I'm sorry, dude. I'm going to need an explanation here. Nobody has ever been able to contain a shifter, and you are offering me a pretty necklace and some human handcuffs?"

Frankie chuckled dryly. "Trust me? Extend your hands and I'll demonstrate. Now, listen, though. If you feel ill at all during the demonstration? You'll be right as rain the minute we finish."

Jules did as he asked, watching with amusement as Frankie passed Sean the necklace. "We have to do it in tandem. You put that over his neck and tuck it into his shirt where he can't just slip out of it, while I do the handcuffs."

Sean was all too happy to assist, and the two of them quickly had the silver items on the sleek jaguar. Frankie stepped back and said: "Okay, break free."

Jules looked peaked as he tried to pull at the delicate looking handcuffs. As he pulled, the stones glowed brighter while Jules looked paler. He dropped to his knees, looking up at my mate with a terrified expression. "What the hell, Fingers? Explain."

Alpha Mikael was sitting at the table with me watching the whole thing with interest. He and Peter had slipped over to see the guys off and to discuss what to do with Yvonne once they had her in custody.

Frankie looked around at us all and spoke in a serious voice. "You all know that I come from a founding shifter family, one of the original lines. You've seen my eyes, it's not like I can hide it." Everyone nodded. Mikael and Peter hadn't seen it, but they were giving him the benefit of the doubt.

"Okay. Well, many of our secrets have been lost to time. Families like mine have pieces and parts of the whole, but not everything. This set belonged to my five times great grandmother. She was apparently a psychic omega witch who was also gifted in metallurgy. Rumor has it that as the silver was melted, drops of her own blood added in before they made the chain and handcuffs. Each moonstone has some weird little carving etched into its surface, I'll let you guys look at them later."

Mikael asked: "If you have this capability, why haven't you shared them with the shifter world before now?"

Frankie looked sadly at the Alpha. "I know, and that's why the first families are all said to be keeping things from everyone. And we are, obviously. The thing is, we don't understand them ourselves. This is the only set of these. I have no way to replicate the design. And if it was indeed made with my family's DNA, then it literally cannot be replicated without someone of my lineage donating blood. You can see why we would be afraid to put that out there, right?"

Peter asked: "Why are the stones glowing? This is not normal, yes?"

Frankie shook his head. "I don't know that either. I believe that it has to do with the etchings. But if you notice, the more that Jules struggled, the more they glowed? They appear to use his own energy to keep him subdued. The more that it takes from him, the more they glow. It's fascinating, but I don't have a clue how it was done.”

Jules spoke through gritted teeth. "Can we worry less about the how and focus on getting me free?"

My mate looked stricken as he quickly moved to remove the necklace. Once it was free, Jules' color began to rapidly return. He was able to get himself out of the bracelets, passing them to Frankie with a look of horrified fascination. Frankie put them back into Jules' hands, along with the necklace.

"You hold onto them, Jag. I'm putting these into your care. There is nobody else that I would trust with them. You will need them to restrain Yvonne and bring her back here. Just make sure that you have both items put on her at the same time, like I did with Sean. Tuck the necklace into her shirt, or double it, just make sure that she can't bend over and have it fall off."

Jules looked at Frankie curiously. "Why do I get the feeling that there's more that you’re holding back?"

Frankie shrugged. "There probably is, yeah? But think about it like this, Jules. If I'm not telling you something, then there are two good reasons. It's either boring or something that you’re safer not being privy to, you know?"

After a moment's thought, Frankie added: "Or you could just consider it need to know information that you don't need to know?"

Jules shook his head and looked at the delicate silver strands. He walked over to show Mikael while Frankie came over and leaned into me where I stood at the counter. We wrapped our arms around each other and stood there watching them.

The Alpha looked over at us approvingly. "It occurs to me, Frankie, that you are pregnant. Those two will carry on your family line now, which means that you will either have to train them or write everything down for them. Is that what your father did for you?"

Frankie lowered his head and took a long breath. Stepping back, he grabbed my hand and led me to the table to sit with the Alpha.

"Yeah, I was a little freaked when Liam told me that we're expecting twins. Family lore say that twins have a higher level of psychic ability. But here's the thing. My father isn't the one who taught me, it was my mother. The family line is only carried on if one or both of them are omega. Only an omega has the ability, in my family. For me, it translated to seeing patterns and having an affinity for numbers. Hell, I was doing calculus in middle school. There are a few families that are descended from the first families."

He looked around the quiet room, watching everyone as he dropped this truth bomb on us. "But all of the founding families are all directly linked to the first couple that the gods blessed with the gift of transformation. To be skin-walkers. My family is one that carries its blessing from the first omega. When the last omega is born of my lineage, my family line will end, even if I give birth to alphas."

Peter asked curiously. "But what if your grandchild was an omega? Would it come back then?"

Shaking his head, Frankie replied: "Our abilities passes from omega to omega, directly. This is why the other founding families have faded into obscurity." He turned to look at Jules then.

"There is a rumor that another founding family lives where you come from, and are also jaguar. But their majicks pass through the alpha side of the lineage."

Jules looked intrigued. "I wonder what they can do? I've never met a jaguar with glowing eyes, though. Trust me, I'd remember that."

Frankie nodded. "Well, to be fair? You weren't supposed to see my eyes. None of you were. Most of us only shift around our families and our mates to keep our secret. I've just grown tired of it after so many years of keeping it hidden. I reached the point that I just stopped giving a shit if anyone knew. Probably not the best idea, but it is what it is."

Mikael looked at him strangely then, his alpha power swirling suddenly. "Frankie. Am I allowed to asked what exactly your big secret is? I feel as though you are holding back more than just some pretty jewelry that can restrain a shifter."

Frankie blushed and shook his head. "I'm sorry, Alpha. I cannot tell you the rest. I am only permitted to reveal it to my omega descendant when he or she comes of an age of understanding, or my mate. Even with Liam, I can only reveal it to him in the proper time. Otherwise, it must remain a secret."

Every shifter in the room could scent the truth in his words, so nobody asked anything else about it. Sean grinned at Jules a few minutes later and said what we were all thinking: "You thought your army friend was a hacker geek. Turns out he's like some secret ninja dude from a secret sect that traces itself to the first omega. That's a fucking trip right there."

We all chuckled, but I reached out for my mate's hand. He looked shaken after revealing so much about himself. It wasn't long after that Jules stood and prepared to leave for his mission. Hopefully, the next time we saw him, he would have Yvonne in custody. What we would do with her, I had no idea. But she wouldn't be out there plotting any more attacks on our people. That right there was worth its weight in blood infused magic silver.
