Always You: A Friends to Lovers Romance-Book 1 by Alexis Winter (11)

Chapter 11

Once again Bridgette found herself showing up to Luke’s apartment unannounced. As the Uber pulled up in front of her building it registered with her that he might still be out at the bar. She headed inside his building and smiled at the doorman, making quick small talk about the evening. He knew her so well he never even rang Luke to see if he was expecting her. He opened the elevator and waved a goodnight to her as the doors closed. She cracked her knuckles nervously as the elevator climbed to Luke’s floor. She hadn’t even thought about what she was going to say to him, oh god what was she doing?! Was she really going to tell him she was in love with him again? The elevator doors opened and Bridgette froze, her stomach still felt like it was on the first floor.

She knocked softly on the door, praying he wasn’t home. She waited for what felt like an eternity before turning in relief to walk away. The door sprang open as Luke stood shirtless in low slung pajama bottoms and soaking wet hair. “Hey sorry I was in the shower, what are you doing here?” He had a look of confusion but also excitement on his face as he ushered her inside. She couldn’t help but stare at his impeccably defined abs, the V of his obliques perfectly accentuating his very low slung pants.

“Uh..umm, uhhh.” She stumbled to try to find the right words, to find any words! “I was hoping we could finish our conversation from earlier I felt like it ended abruptly.”

“Where’s Paul?” He asked casually as he ran his hands through his wet hair and made his way to the kitchen. “You want some water?”

“We just broke up.” Luke’s back stiffened a little at her response but he didn’t turn around as he responded.

“Why?” He asked as he reached for the refrigerator door.

“I’m in love with you.” She knew she had to just spit it out or she would never have the courage to say the words. Luke stopped dead in his tracks, his hand on the door handle of the refrigerator.

“I’ve been in love with you for 10 years. I never stopped loving you. I’ve compared every man I’ve dated to you whether I wanted to or not. I thought I could get over you but I can’t, I don’t want to get over you. I want to be with you.” She couldn’t stop herself, 10 years of feelings and emotions were pouring out of her. She would rather deal with the pain of rejection again then deal with the pain of keeping this all inside.

Luke turned and slowly walked towards her as she spoke. “I can’t stop thinking about that kiss. I know you were just emotional and frustrated that night but my body felt electrified when you touched me. Luke, nobody has ever made me feel the way you did with just one kiss.”

“Sweetheart” Luke interrupted her as she nervously described how excited he made her body that night. She was still talking when he placed his hand behind her neck and slid it up into her hair. “Sweetheart, relax and take a deep breath.” Bridgette exhaled bracing herself for rejection again before realizing Luke was now face to face with her, his right hand in her hair and his other bringing her chin up to look him in the eyes. She bit her bottom lip, resisting the urge to lean in to him. His eyes studied her face, moving slowly from her own eyes down to her mouth. He reached his thumb up and brushed it against her bottom lip as his tongue darted and licked his own. “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fantasized about tasting these lips again.”

Bridgette’s heart raced, she couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She felt a wave of nervousness engulf her as Luke slipped his other hand behind her neck and pulled her in. His lips met hers, he began to kiss her passionately. There was no pretense to his actions, they were deliberate and with intensity. His tongue slipped past her lips, gently at first massaging her tongue with his own. He plunged his tongue into her mouth as he lifted her onto the island in his kitchen, her hands instinctively went to his shoulders to steady herself. She was now eye level with him, allowing him to deepen the kiss and step between her thighs. He grabbed her waist and pulled her to the edge of the counter causing her dress to ride up so that the warmth between her thighs pressed against his waist. She moaned as he slid a hand up her exposed thigh and plunged his tongue into her mouth again.

“Wait…wait.” Bridgette said between kisses, bringing herself back to reality. Luke pulled away from her and smoothed her hair behind her ear. “We need to talk about things.” She said as Luke leaned in for another kiss, licking at her lips as she leaned in to embrace the kiss before pushing him back again.

“I’m serious!” She said as she hoped down from the counter. It was then she noticed the very physical reaction Luke was having in his pants to their make-out session. She couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow towards his very erect cock trying to make an appearance through the fly of his very thin pajama bottoms.

“You want to see what else you can make him do?” He said as he hooked his thumbs in the waistband of his pants about to pull them down.

“Whoa! Wait a minute!” She yelled as she held up a hand over her eyes. He laughed as he grabbed her hand and walked her over toward the couch.

“I’m just kidding Bridge, come on let’s ‘talk.’” He said with a wink. They sat on the couch, Luke leaning and back and placing his arms behind his head. “So what’s in that beautiful head of yours sweetheart?”

“Can you like put a shirt on or something?” He just smirked and made zero effort to get up. She rolled her eyes and let out a sigh, “So what’s happening? What’s going on?” Without saying a word Luke leaned forward and grabbed both of Bridgette’s arms and pulled her until she was almost on top of him. He then grabbed her waist and lifted her until she straddled his lap. “Luke what the hell?”

“Just listen to me for a minute please.” He said as he interlaced their fingers and lifted his eyes to meet his. “I have been fighting these feelings for so long.” Bridgette’s mouth popped open and she inhaled a sharp breath. “I know you expressed feelings for me in the past and I shut you down. I was terrified Bridge, you mean the world to me and I didn’t want to lose you. That being said…I feel like it’s killing me to fight it any longer. I think you can probably guess that’s why I’ve been a little less than friendly during this relationship with Paul.”

She interrupted him, “Why Paul though? I mean you never seemed to care in the past who I was dating.”

“Well, please don’t take this the wrong way but I just didn’t see a future with you and the other guys. Paul was different, he had everything to offer. He could give you everything and I panicked thinking I might lose you forever so I put up a wall and pushed you away. I didn’t want to ruin your relationship with him if he was truly making you happy. I couldn’t live with that Bridge.”

“I know it took me way too long to get up the courage to tell you but it made me realize that I had to tell you how much you mean to me…to tell you that I’m in love with you. I’ve been in love with you for so long and the fact that you’re in my lap right now and I’m holding you and can feel your heartbeat and still taste you on my lips is just…a dream come true.”
