Epilogue
Gaspard, a naturally tall and wide man, felt mighty uncomfortable and restricted in the expensive suit he wore. But he had to look the part every time he came into the city. With his long black hair pulled back into a braid, it was the neatest he was ever going to be.
He walked down the long corridor and knocked once on the frosted glass door. Without waiting for an answer, he entered the familiar office.
For such a large room, there was hardly anything in it. A large mirror on one wall reflected the moonlight streaming in from the ceiling to floor windows while the remaining walls were left bare. The only furniture in the room was a large desk, on which sat a laptop and mobile phone, and two leather back office chairs.
Sitting down, he looked across at the handsome, well-dressed man who occupied the other seat and waited for him to speak.
“Well, that was a disaster.” Gaspard sighed in defeat.
“On the contrary,” the man said, with an easy smile.
“What?”
“It went exactly as I had expected.”
The man looked to be in his early twenties, but was in fact much older and stronger than Gaspard was. The cold eyes staring back at him practically radiated power, giving his age away.
“But all our soldiers died.”
“Of course they did. Well, not all of them died. One or two of them are still waiting for orders. ”
“You knowingly sent them to their slaughter.” Gaspard smiled back as realisation dawned on him.
“They were going up against the council. There was no way they were going to survive.”
“So it was a test?”
“Yes, and I’m thrilled with the results. They were our weaker soldiers and they got close. They almost killed Isaac, which proves just how weak and compliant the council have become. Bowing to humans when we should be ruling over them” He hissed.
“It’s time I claimed what is rightfully mine. And when I do, there will be no more hiding in the shadows from these humans. Vampires have always been at the top of the food chain, and it’s time we started acting that way again.”
“I couldn’t agree with you more.” Gaspard nodded.
“Once I’ve dealt with Lyzander and his precious council, there will be no more suppressing who we really are.”
“No more begging donors to part with their blood.” Gaspard sneered.
“No. We will take what we want, and the humans will bow to us. This is the way it always should have been and would be, had it not been for Orson.”
“If only you’d gotten rid of him sooner before the council took power.”
“If only. But no matter. It’s time to take power now.”
“Won’t the council be on alert?”
“Even if they are, they will not stand a chance with your boys by our side.”
“You think they are ready?”
“Oh yes, I’ve been watching them myself.”
“What if they’re not willing?”
“Then it’s your job to make sure they are.”
“I won't fail you.” He muttered, confident in his own ability.
“Of course you won't, you never do.”
“And I never will.”
“That is exactly why I chose you to be at my side, Gaspard. You remind me of me.” His eyes shone with approval.
“Thank you.” Gaspard bowed lightly.
“Here.”
The man slid a piece of paper over. On it was the flight details of a private jet heading to France.
“I’ve called Loic. He will be waiting for you. Go get your boys. It’s time to crush the council and take care of that pseudo leader and his brothers once and for all.” He chuckled darkly.
