Brotherhood Protectors: Sawyer (Kindle Worlds Novella) (Circle Eight Millennium Book 5) by Beth Williamson (6)

SHE SQUEAKED IN surprise when he picked her up, threw her over his shoulder and almost ran back into the cabin. “Lock the door!”

No matter what, her training as a bodyguard and as a soldier kicked in. She had to be sure they were safe.

He turned and threw the bolt, the deadbolt and the lock, then proceeded to carry her into the bedroom. He set her back on her feet.

Before he could reach for the lantern, she touched his arm. “No light. We have to be dark to be safe.”

She shook with the knowledge she was about to break a cardinal rule. But her body’s needs were stronger than common sense right about then. She needed him, and judging by the hard-on in his sweatpants, he needed her.

He cupped her breasts, his thumbs moving over the already turgid nipples. Tingles raced through her body to land squarely between her legs.

Harley unbuckled her holster and hung it on the doorknob for easy reach. She was aroused but not stupid.

He pulled off her tank top in one fluid motion. “I assume this is a standard white bra. I wish I could see you. I’m going to enjoy taking this off your body and tasting you.”

Harley’s entire body clenched at the thought of him teasing her. She fumbled to unclasp the bra. The cool night air caressed her skin, but air did nothing to lower the heat enveloping her.

“If you take off your pants, I’ll take off mine.” His whisper skated across the skin. Within moments, both of them were naked in the dark. The only sounds in the room were their heavy breathing and the muted symphony of the night creatures inside the walls of the cabin.

He ran his hands down her body as if tracing her form. Then he scooped her up again and lay her on the bed. She knew he was a big man, but she hadn’t realized how muscular he was.

Touching him was like touching a granite statue. He was hard from stem to stern. Harley never wished so hard to be able to see something than she did at that moment. The dark was usually her friend. But now the dark was keeping her from seeing the man she desperately wanted to see.

When his mouth found hers, it was like an explosion, as though they stood on the starting line were just waiting for the pistol to go off.

Hands, mouths, tongues tangled while groans filled the room. Harley felt like a piece of driftwood in the ocean, without control or direction. She floated in a haze of pleasure.

He suckled her breasts, while his hand slid down her belly and between her legs. He teased and tickled as his fingers grew closer to the throbbing point that craved his touch.

“God, you’re so wet.” He lapped at the other nipple. “I want to taste you, but I don’t think I can last that long.”

Harley throbbed with need. “What are you waiting for?”

She heard crinkling, likely from a condom packet, and then sound of the condom being smoothed down a cock. She didn’t want to think about why he had condoms and chose to be grateful he did.

He slid into her in one smooth motion. She was instantly full, and he was so damn hard. Harley clenched around him.

He groaned in her ear. “You do that one more time, honey, it’s gonna be over before it starts.”

She wiggled beneath him. “Then get busy cowboy.”

Sawyer soon found his rhythm, thrusting in, nibbling her nipple, and then out. Her limited past told her this was an extraordinary sensual experience. He seemed to be everywhere at once, sucking and licking. She could hardly process all the sensations ricocheting through her body.

He pulled her knees up then braced himself on his hands above her. He moved deeper, close enough to touch her soul.

“Come for me, honey.” He pounded into her harder, faster, pulling her closer and closer to the precipice that beckoned, until suddenly, she flew.

Waves of pleasure crashed over her. She cried out, scratching his back, his arms, his shoulders. Her entire body was as tight as a bowstring but she held him with everything she was and everything she could be.

Soon his hoarse shout echoed around the room. He thrust into her so deeply she felt it in her heart.

Harley knew she was in trouble. Deep, deep trouble.

SAWYER SLEPT DEEPLY for the first time in months. Since his father had died. It wasn’t just the sex, because he’d had sex in the last six months. No, the difference was Harley.

The intensity of the sex they’d shared in the deep darkness had shaken him. He felt vulnerable, and he didn’t know what to do about it.

He rolled over to discover the other side of the bed empty, the sheets cold. No doubt she’d left right after he’d fallen asleep hours ago.

Whatever happened now, at least they’d discovered what it meant to be together. The reality had been fucking incredible. And now they had to face each other in the light of day.

He got up, dressed, then walked out the bedroom. He didn’t know exactly what her reaction would be when he caught sight of her at the table, eating dry cereal. She looked up at him. The expression on her face wasn’t joy, or happiness, or even satisfaction. No, she was pissed.

“Good morning sunshine.” He smiled.

She scowled at him. “That can’t happen again.” She gestured with one arm. “We could’ve been killed last night, because we were too busy fucking.”

He told himself he wasn’t hurt by her words. Why should he be? He didn’t need a bodyguard, albeit a female bodyguard with tits he could play with for days. She worked for him, and apparently that the beginning and end of their relationship. Strictly professional.

“Well, you can’t say you didn’t enjoy it.” He picked a little box of cereal for himself and sat down. “Or you’d be lying.”

If possible, her scowl grew deeper. “That’s not the point. The point is I failed at my job, because I was too busy thinking about what I wanted and not what I should’ve been doing.”

Her admission was a light in the darkness of his thoughts. She’d enjoyed the sex, and perhaps was thinking about doing it again, just as he was. Sawyer shrugged with a casualness he didn’t feel. “Is there coffee?”

“Not today. It’s too sunny and smoke could be seen if we build a fire. There’s water.” She got to her feet. “I’m going to go patrol outside.”

He wanted to say something, but he knew whatever he came up with would be a glib, idiotic phrase. So, he let it go. For now.

FOR THE NEXT seven days, he endured the angry Harley, waiting patiently for the sensual Harley to return. He figured it was just a matter time. Yet he spent every morning jerking himself off thinking about the woman, who was less than ten feet away.

There was no help for it. Sawyer had a crush on Harley Graham. Even when they did more target practice, he couldn’t help but admire her body, the sleek musculature. She was smart, deadly, and sexy. Three adjectives he wouldn’t have used to describe any woman he’d been with. But there was no other woman like her.

She refused to play checkers or any of the other games. He spent his days doing push-ups, sit ups, and any other exercise he could do in a primitive cabin. When he got bored exercising, he returned to the puzzles, over and over again. He’d found a deck of cards with only one card missing and used it to play solitaire. Like how he was playing solitaire with his dick. He’d never admit it, but he was lonely.

A full ten days after they arrived, he thought, perhaps, he was going to lose his mind. Harley was busy cleaning her guns again when he got to his feet. “I’m going to get take a piss.” He didn’t wait for her to respond. He simply left and headed for the outhouse. Outside the cabin, it was snowing sideways. First snow of the fall. The flakes flew into his nose and eyes. He pulled up his collar and stomped toward the outhouse.

Too late, he saw footprints on the ground. Two sets of them walking side-by-side around the cabin. Two man-size boot prints. Not his and Harley’s, because they walked side-by-side when at all.

Someone was here.
