Chapter Ten

 

 

Levi watched Katie as she stood across the room from him sipping on her third drink and talking with her coworkers. He didn’t normally count the drinks of the people he was protecting, or his dates. If they got too sloppy to give consent, he merely saw them safely inside and into bed or onto their couch, set out water and aspirin and left.

He also usually never called them again. He never said he was saint; but getting so drunk that your date became your caregiver was not an experience he ever intended to repeat. But this was Katie and she was different. While he wouldn’t sleep with her if she couldn’t say clearly that she wanted it, he also wouldn’t leave her. She was his to care for. His to love.

His forever.

Seeing her look around the room, no doubt looking for him, since he’d excused himself to go to the restroom ten minutes earlier, Levi began heading towards her. He’d diverted to the open bar to have another shot of whiskey and had decided to take a moment to just watch her. But duty called, and he had to get to her.

As he walked through the crowd of lawyers, clients, judges, and even police officers and media personnel, snatches of conversation reached his ears. He catalogued pertinent information in his mind and tossed away the stuff he didn’t need to know.

“Did you hear who they put as the judge on docket H543-216-00-92?”

“I heard he was sleeping with her and her sister…”

“Well it’s a completely unprecedented case…”

“I really don’t want to represent them, but what else are we going to do?”

“I’m sure you can ask for an extension due to discovery…”

“What did you get your kids for Christmas?”

“My husband is away tonight; do you want to come over?”

“How much are we getting for Christmas bonuses this year?”

He was just feet away from Katie when two different conversations reached him almost simultaneously. Two separate ones which changed his evening and his life forever.

The first came from the right and just behind him:

“They haven’t made the offer to her just yet, but if Miss Faulk knows what’s good for her, she’ll take the job and keep her mouth shut.”

Levi turned in the direction of the raspy voice, that sounded as if the person speaking had gargled with rocks and whiskey, but there were too many people around him and he couldn’t pinpoint who’d spoken. It was time to get to Katie, as quickly as possible. It seemed as if the cartel was planning to make their move soon, and Levi had a feeling he would need backup on this.

Before he could take another step, however, Katie’s voice, a melody among the cacophony of various conversations, the live band, the catering and wait staff moving among the guests, and laughter, drifted to his ears causing an instant physical reaction in his groin. Levi shifted in an effort to hide his semi-erection as he stepped towards her.

“You don’t understand Janice. I have been in love with Levi for as long as I can remember…”

Levi froze at Katie’s words. She loved him?

“… but he only sees me as Kevin’s baby sister. The little girl who used to follow them around and tattle on them every chance she got…”

That’s a lie. I haven’t thought of her like that since she was a teenager.

“… obviously what happened earlier was just him exploring or trying to satisfy the curiosity he had for the one girl he’s known his entire life. Or maybe it was just physical, but whatever it was, it wasn’t real…”

Levi’s stomach dropped, and he clenched his teeth. While Katie was wrong about his thoughts and feelings towards her, she obviously knew what she wanted. And it wasn’t him. At least not for anything real.

“… no matter how much I wish it were. Levi will never love me the way I love him.”

Levi’s eyes widened. Well now he knew he had to step in. He wasn’t sure what he was going to say, or do, but stepping up to Katie, taking her glass from her and placing it on the tray of a passing waiter, before wrapping his arms around her and kissing her deeply? That hadn’t even been a consideration. Her moans as she wrapped her arms around his neck, made him growl. He lifted a hand and sank it in her hair, releasing it from the clips and hair pins that held it in place. He heard them hit the floor and only when he was aware of the silence around them, did Levi pull back.

He was aware of all eyes looking at them in shock, but he ignored them and kissed the tip of Katie’s nose, grinning when she wrinkled it.

“Let’s go,” he said. When she nodded, Levi led her out of the party they’d arrived at only an hour and a half before.

Levi opened Katie’s door and followed her inside. Though everything inside of him demanded that he pick her up and fuck her hard against the wall, this was their first time. Well, first time where Levi had every intention of shoving his cock deep inside of Katie’s heat. So, he said nothing and merely strolled with her into the kitchen.

“Would you like a drink?”

Levi nodded and watched as Katie headed to the refrigerator. She pulled out two bottles of water, and after closing the door, walked over to hand one to Levi. He thanked her and watched as she took a seat across from him.

He didn’t open his drink, instead he watched as Katie nervously did and took a healthy swallow.

“Nervous?” he asked.

Katie shook her head, then nodded.

That makes a lot of sense.

“I’ve just dreamed about this for so long, you know?” Katie said, as she looked up at him. “You are all I’ve wanted since the first time I heard about kissing as a young girl. To have you want me back? I just…” she shook her head again. “I’m a little nervous that I’m going to ruin things, or that you won’t actually enjoy having sex with me.”

Levi laughed softly then reached across the table to take Katie’s hand. “That will never happen. Know how I know?” he asked.

“How?”

Levi turned her hand over and rubbed his lips up and down Katie’s palm, her fingers, and her wrist before slowly sucking each finger in his mouth. Katie’s breath sped up and Levi looked up to watch her as he slowly calmed her fears and seduced her all at the same time. When he’d sucked on the last finger of that hand, he kissed her palm then lifted his head.

“Because I have wanted you so long, Katie.”

At her widened eyes he nodded. “I feel something for you I have never felt for another person before. I don’t just want you, I adore you. I love you. I want to make you mine in every possible way. I want your taste on my tongue forever, and I want every man and woman in the world to envy me because you belong to me. Because I belong to you. Because we belong to each other.”

He inhaled deeply then continued on.

“You are my dream, Katie. You are everything.”

Katie released a long sigh and smiled at him softly. “I feel the same way, Levi.”

Happiness soared through him and Levi knew it was time. He’d finally shared one of his biggest secrets with Katie, and now there was only one thing to do.

Celebrate the Christmas holiday properly.

They shared a long, warm gaze, then Levi leaned in and kissed her lips. His hands reached up and caressed her face with soft strokes. Feeling her tongue gently press against his as the kiss deepened, he grunted as her fingers tangled in his hair and her actions became more passionate. He was eager to please her.

He slid his hands down and pulled her out of her chair and stood her in front of him.

Katie shivered as Levi’s fingertips slid up her legs and caressed her thighs just below the hem of her dress.

“I shouldn’t be doing this,” Levi whispered harshly, squeezing her thighs gently before pushing the fabric of her dress up around her waist.

“Doing what?” she asked.

“Making plans to make you mine,” Levi growled before lifting her up onto his lap. Her lips exploring his jawline with delicate kisses lingered on his flesh, her motions slow and intentional as he moaned in desire. His heartbeat quickened as her actions became more energetic. He grunted again, reached down, and pulled off her dress completely, then reached around and unhooked her bra.

Her pale breasts bounced in front of his face, and he leaned in to suck on her hard, pink nipples. He glanced up and saw his own lust reflected in her blue eyes as his tongue circled her sensitive skin.
