[SERIES Q&A WITH THE AUTHOR!]
HI THERE, COLE HERE. I get a lot of questions about the series, so let’s answer some of the most common ones!
Q. All the other questions disappeareded again!
A. Yup, I’m trying to only do unique questions per episode from here on out, and will likely go back to episodes one through five and edit those as well so that each Q&A offers something new with content relevant to that episode. So I cleared them out again. I think I’m gonna start adding bits of character trivia, though. Just little short things here and there that probably won’t make it into the main narrative but are a bit of fun to know anyway.
Q. Okay but what the fuck was that X numbered scene AGAIN you couldn’t just let me enjoy the happy feels you fuck omg WHY
A. I know. I know. I’m a bad man. I’m sorry. Go back and reread chapters 4 and 12 and get the happy feels back, and just pretend the X chapter isn’t hanging there promising something very bad is going to happen. *clears throat* (No seriously I had to do it. I can’t just ignore Sila for a whole episode. He’s a very bizarre character in that he likes being invisible, but doesn’t like being ignored.)
Q. Okay but Gabrielle
A. Yes?
Q. And the guy at the DA’s office?
A. Mmhm…
Q. Blond
A. Yep.
Q. British accent
A. You’re getting there.
Q. ONE GREEN AND ONE BLUE EYE
A. Bingo.
Q. ljkamedklfjskljfklsdj
A. I know.
Q. All right, let’s get serious again. Why don’t we ever follow up on the aftermath of most of the cases that Malcolm and Seong-Jae solve?
A. That would bog down the story a lot and get really repetitive. While the crimes and the paths to investigating them leave a lot of room for variety, in the end a trial is a trial and if we follow every case to trial and conviction, that’s a lot of tedium with the same processes over and over again. It’s left to assume that the perpetrators went to jail or were institutionalized if they were deemed mentally unfit to serve time, and we may even visit them at some point (like this episode’s visit to Sarah Sutterly, and you can expect to see Edmund Bishop again soon). Though if there are ever any significant cases where they walk free and it has an impact on the storyline, we’ll get into that. There may also be questionable cases where Malcolm and Seong-Jae have to testify and are practically put on trial themselves, but again, that’s only if it would move the plot or character development.
Q. I READ THE CHRISTMAS DRABBLE. Mal lied!
A. Shhh. The Christmas drabble is in late December. This is mid-October. They just crashed together. He’s not yet ready to admit that horror movies scare the fucking bejesus out of him, especially when he really wants to go to the movies with Seong-Jae.
Q. I’m really worried after reading the S1E8 preview. Does the kid die?
A. Okay, so…normally this is a thing I try to include in trigger warnings, and I’ve been doing my best to write trigger warnings that aren’t spoilers but also give you enough information to make your own choices about what you can or cannot handle reading. A happy medium between adequately warning people and preserving the suspense. In this case, though, I can’t do that. There’s no way I can answer that question without spoiling the climactic ending of S1E8.
I’m going to do it anyway.
I know the death of a child is a very difficult thing to read, and can be an extremely hard no for some people no matter what genre they’re reading, and I’d like you to have he information needed to decide if you want to read/purchase E8 beforehand and without having to actually get the book to find out. Your safety and choices are more important than spoilers. However. If you don’t want to be spoiled for the events of S1E8, stop reading here and skip to the afterword. This is the last question in this episode’s FAQ, so you won’t miss anything by skipping ahead.

The kid lives. She’s injured, but will live and make a full recovery.
Sorry if it’s frustrating having to spoil the story, but I’m trying not to traumatize y’all so here you go. I’ll also find a way to repeat this information in the trigger warnings of the actual episode while also making it possible for those who don’t want to be spoiled to avoid it.
How, I have no clue when it’s right there in the front matter.
I’ll figure something out.
