Dark Edges: The Edge Series by Caldwell, Kane (23)

Chase

It took Naomi a few days to overcome the trauma she’d endured last Sunday. Russell had met us at my place and given Naomi her own prescription for Xanax. She’d only taken two pills, one when Russell handed her the bottle and one that night. But while she was passed out that afternoon, I had Russell run the divorce papers by a judge I’d done some work for in the past. So by the next morning, the ending of her marriage was under way.

Monday afternoon, I sent Judge Stockum a huge gift basket of expensive fine wines, something I knew he would appreciate and I was right when I received a call from him later that night. As Naomi and I packed for our early flight the next morning to Georgia, Judge Stockum gave me a quick, “Anything you need, brother, you know where to find me.” Then he hung up.

My girl slowly came back to herself and there was excitement in her voice as she told me everything, I mean everything about her Gram. I knew then, the next call to Judge Stockum was going to be asking him to perform my marriage ceremony.

The trip to Georgia was short. We came back on Thanksgiving Day and drove to my sister’s to spend the rest of the day with my family, but we were able to have Thanksgiving breakfast with Naomi’s Gram. Aurora Gladstone was a fucking hoot, even if she thought I was Naomi’s bodyguard the whole time. After Naomi told her for the fifth time that I was her boyfriend and her Gram still hadn’t gotten it, we gave up. But we’d risen early every morning and returned to the hotel in the early evening as we’d spent every moment we could with her grandmother.

When I saw the small quiet tears falling from Naomi’s eyes as the plane took off, I told her as soon as the house was done we would find a nursing home close by for her Gram to move into. That bought me a fucking unbelievable blow job in the car on the way home. I only swerved off the road three times. Not bad.

We argued when I told her I’d watched her a few times from a distance, but I didn’t want to keep anything from her, no lies, no secrets. That’s what we’d agreed on. She gave me attitude, which I loved. But when I told her how I’d felt watching her dance around the kitchen, her eyes had glazed over. Then I was greeted with a replay of her dance in my kitchen where it ended with me eating her sweet cunt and then fucking her on the island counter, exactly as I’d imagined that night.

When we weren’t fucking, eating, or snuggled on the couch watching a movie or the Food Network, we were working with Lane and his crew on the inside construction of the house. He paused everything on his schedule and dove right in on the project. In just three days, the inside was painted, bathrooms were done and now his men were working on the kitchen while others built a two-tiered wooden deck out back.

Even though Lane insisted on not charging for labor, I planned on paying it anyway. Over the course of the years, I’d stashed a good chunk of change away. Enough that if I wanted to, Naomi wouldn’t have to work and I would only have to do a few PI jobs here and there.

When I’d first read her e-mail, I’d never expected to be where I was today, but I wouldn’t change any of it.

Not for one fucking second.

“Fuck baby,” I grumbled next to Naomi’s ear as I rocked into her sweet pussy.

She wrapped her legs around my back and tilted her hips up toward me and I drove in deep, causing her pussy to grip my cock.

“Chase,” she warned on an exhale.

I picked up speed and plunged inside her relentlessly. Breathing in the sweet spicy orange scent at her neck, I kissed her behind her ear. “That cunt gonna come for me?”

“Always,” she moaned.

I lifted and put my weight on my hands as I hovered over her. Thrusting hard, I watched her soft brown eyes haze over when her pussy squeezed my cock and she whimpered, “Oh God.”

Just watching her gorgeous face as she rode her orgasm had me tipping over the edge and I rooted my cock inside her and came with a grunt.

She may be my weakness but I’d never felt strength like I did when I was with her.

I stood on the unfinished deck wrapped in the blanket that Chase and I’d just made love on as I stared out at the beautiful night sky. It was peaceful out here and I couldn’t wait to move in permanently. So far, Chase and I had christened every room in our house, some twice.

The past week had been a whirlwind. It’d been one full week since I’d found out about Braydon and his identical twin brother, Ross Smith, scamming me into a fake marriage do to greed and obsession and two whole days since I’d filed for divorce. Yes, I was counting because every day was one step closer to bliss. It’d taken some time to really process everything and a lot of questions I’d asked myself throughout the months I’d spent married to…well, both of them. I feared one thing and that scary thought had me asking Russell to test me for everything under the sun and when those results had come back negative, I’d fucked Chase in his truck.

Even though it was a complete fucking blow, I held my own and moved forward with the help of Chase, his family, who we’d told everything, Lane, and Russell, not to mention, the ever-supportive Grace and her family. She wasn’t too happy with everything I’d kept from her but after a few days she did get over it. Especially when I told her about my and Chase’s new home. After the sadness of my telling her I was leaving the Landslide, she’d clapped her hands together and yelled, “Decorating time!” And if she wasn’t working, she was here at the new house helping.

As a matter of fact, she’d just left a few hours ago along with everyone else. It was Chase’s idea to have everyone over this Sunday for a barbeque. When I’d told him that was impossible because we didn’t even have a grill, he dragged me to the home improvement store, and bought the biggest grill and a patio set that I picked out, which looked outstanding on our unfinished deck.

The highlight was spending time with my Gram and she’d looked fantastic. When she did remember who I was we had many laughs and just a few tears, and I thought it was hysterical that she thought Chase was my bodyguard. But when he’d gone to use the restroom she’d leaned into me and whispered, “I like him for you and he seems to like protecting you.” Then she wagged her brows. I’d laughed so hard my stomach hurt, but I knew she had approved of him and liked him looking after me. And that gave her a sense of comfort, which in turn did the same for me.

There were still obstacles to overcome and hills to climb that Chase and I still had ahead of us, but I knew deep down inside we would be able to conquer anything. Because even in the times I felt weak, all it took was one look or touch from him and he gave me the strength I needed.

I heard his footsteps growing closer as he walked across the dark hardwood floor. His arms wrapped around me from behind and he mumbled, “You shouldn’t be out here in nothing but a blanket, baby.”

“I’m good,” I said even though it was freezing outside.

“I love you,” he whispered in my ear and I melted into him.

I would never tire of hearing his rough voice say those words to me. Turning my head, I caught his eyes. “I love you.” He grinned that adorable smile at me.

When I twisted back to gaze out at our enormous backyard, he squeezed me and asked softly, “Whatcha thinking?”

“What do you think about a cute white picket fence back here?” I questioned.

His body gave a slight jerk before it relaxed. He took a deep breath and whispered, “I think that sounds fucking great, baby.”

I had just fallen asleep after fucking my girl in the warm confines of our bed when a thundering sound echoing through the penthouse had me stirring from a sound sleep. I moved my arms from around Naomi making her grumble but then go silent. Slowly I got up, put my jeans on and went out into the living room. The banging started again and I looked to the front door.

As I walked to it, rubbing my eyes, I heard Lane’s voice. “Chase… Chase, man, it’s me.”

I hit the code on the security panel and opened the door. “Lane, what the fuck, man? It’s late.”

“I know,” he said excitedly, bouncing from one foot to another. “I know but I couldn’t wait to tell you, I’m gonna be a dad!”
