Embers & Ecstasy: Lick of Fire (Clashing Claws Book 3) by Daniella Starre (8)

Chapter 8

Damon King

The amount of pain I was feeling was terrible. Somehow, the lucky bastards had avoided fangs. Francesco had been bitten, but he wasn’t suffering from an inordinate amount of pain. Miguel hadn’t been hurt at all. I had to say I hated him at that moment.

Francesco thought himself amazingly intelligent for having captured a female dragon, but from the way Audrey was smiling, I knew she had played a role in it.

We had just come into the kitchen to check on her, and Francesco was going on and on about the female and everything we might be able to learn from her.

Audrey just smiled before coming over to hug Miguel. “You listened to me,” she murmured. “Thank you. I appreciate that.”

Miguel shrugged, but he was grinning like a fool. “For you, chica, I would do most anything. You know that, don’t you?”

“You have a line?” she asked.

“Well, maybe. Maybe not.” He winked.

I groaned.

Miguel scowled. “As if you would not have said the same,” he grumbled.

I shook my head. “I…” A stab of pain had me wincing, and I shut my eyes.

"You got hurt again!" Audrey cried. "Why didn't you tell me?"

I shrugged and flinched against the pain that simple movement caused. On my way here, I had grabbed a rug to cover myself with. Both Francesco and Miguel were naked. Which wasn’t a surprise. I swore the two of them were far too comfortable in their bodies.

“You need more of my blood,” she said.

“No,” I protested.

Somehow, the Fanged Serpents had been able to poison their claws but seemingly not their teeth. Audrey’s blood and perhaps all humans could cure it, but I had been infected again during this battle.

“You’re such a strong fighter,” she said.

“I got hurt the most,” I muttered.

She cupped my cheek and then kissed me so hard that I got sprung. I wanted her desperately, right now, in front of the others. I didn’t care. I just wanted to give her everything I had. After a battle, after staring death in the eye and giving it the finger, you just wanted to do something life-affirming, and what could be more life-affirming than to make love?

“You were already not at one hundred percent, and you gave one hundred and ten percent,” she whispered.

“Not possible.”

“I didn’t think it was possible to love you and the others as I do, but it clearly is possible,” she pointed out.

Before I could stop her, she grabbed a dragon claw from the floor. How in the world did she get that? Although I objected, she cut her wrist and shoved it against my mouth.

“Relax,” she murmured. “Drink. I’m fine. Let me help you.”

I hesitated, not drinking despite the liquid being right there.

“I won’t get poisoned,” she informed me. “I am the antidote, remember?”

True enough and now I drank. Immediately, I felt as if I were the strongest I had ever been. I adored her so damn much. She was my everything.

I straightened.

“Did you have enough?” Audrey asked?

I nodded. “Yes, my love.”

Miguel coughed.

I glowered at him and embraced her tightly. Her cheeks turned a deep red that matched her hair, and her green eyes glittered beautifully. Her slender, curvy body felt so perfectly against mine, and I couldn’t help grinding against her a moment.

Francesco coughed.

Audrey blushed even deeper and pulled away. “We, ah, we shouldn’t stay here. What if they come back?”

I nodded. “She’s right. Don’t worry. We have a little place we can go to. No one else knows about it.”

Francesco nodded. “What about the captive?”

“Bring her with,” Miguel said.

I gritted my teeth. “I don’t like that.”

“We need to question here, right?” Audrey said. “Let me at her.”

“You?” I shook my head.

Francesco, though, the traitor, nodded. “Yes, her.”

Miguel was nodding too. “She is an investigative reporter, remember?”

“I am,” Audrey said. “Besides, I think I already got a little nugget from her. She loves Jeremy.”

I gaped at Audrey. “We have Jeremy’s lover.”

She shrugged. “We don’t know if he cares for her too, but she loves him I think.”

“Impressive.”

“And she was willing to kill me even though that went against his wishes. I played on her jealousy to be able to strike her with the katana.”

“Miguel, you gave her the katana?” I asked, shocked and pleased he had thought of it.

Miguel shrugged and rubbed the back of his neck. “The details aren’t important. Who did what isn’t important. We need to leave. I’ll grab some of the liquor.”

“Seriously?” Audrey asked. “What about clothes? Food?”

“We have some clothes and food there, but you can never have enough liquor, and we all need a stiff drink after all of this.”

Audrey couldn’t argue with that.

Not five minutes passed, and we were on our way. Cars were too easy to trail, and it was dark. Once we made sure that no one was following us, we took to the skies. Francesco carried the prisoner. Carrying our liquor supply, Miguel brought up the rear so he could check for any signs or hints of us being tailed. Once we were only an hour away, he shot ahead to scope out the place and make sure that we were safe.

I carried Audrey. At one point, I had to land. I was getting tired. I wasn’t sore. I felt no point. Well, maybe a little.

I’m fine, I sent to Francesco only.

A snort sounded in my head. I’m sure.

I ignored him and transformed into my human form.

Wordlessly, Audrey held out the wrist I had drunk from.

“I don’t need that,” I protested. “I just need a moment to—”

She walked off, pressed her lips against mine, and held out her wrist again. I couldn't help myself. It was like I was a damn vampire, although the creatures didn't exist. I needed her, craved her, desired her. I loved her, wanted her, needed her. She completed me.

And the others.

Don’t think about them.

And I didn’t. I thought only of myself as I drank from her. As I kissed her. As I laid her down and caressed her body. As I sucked her nipples and fingered her hot, wet pussy. As I ate her out. As I entered her and began to pump hard and fast, thrusting deep.

“I love you,” I grunted as I exploded, coming deep inside of her.

“I love you. Always, Damon. Always.”

Feeling as if my heart might burst, feeling overwhelmed by her generosity, feeling aggravated at my weakness from taking more of her blood yet again, I shifted to my dragon and brought her to the safe house.

Safe. That was all I wanted for her. For her to be safe. Happy. Loved.

And for her to have all of those with me.
