Fate's Shadow by Steven L. Smithen (10)

Nine

The Callahan’s decided to delay Caleb and Kiera’s departure for a day. Maeve took Kiera shopping for new clothes while Micah worked at helping Caleb better understand his fledgling divine powers.

Several hours later that afternoon Maeve and Kiera returned from their day of shopping to find Caleb shirtless, breathing heavily, and dripping with sweat. Kiera just stopped what she was doing only to have Maeve run into her.

“Kiera, dear you can’t just stop…” Maeve never finished her thought but said instead, “Never mind, I totally understand. There are days when Micah…” She never finished that thought because Micah also shirtless and sweating stepped into view.

The two women just stoop at the top of the steps and ogled the two sweaty men then were shaken from their reverence when Caleb blocked a strike from Micah and using his momentum against him turned and flipped Micah onto his back.

Maeve shook herself before grabbing Kiera’s arm. “Come on dear, we can’t let them find us just drooling over them. It’s not good to let them think that every time they drop their shirts we’re going to pant breathlessly over them. Not that we won’t, but we can’t let them believe that.” She handed Kiera a key, “Why don’t you head up to the second-floor guest apartment and get ready for tonight. I’ll text Micah telling he that we have reservations for dinner.”

Kiera blushed, “Do you think Caleb will like the dress?”

Maeve chuckled, “Oh yes, I haven’t met a man yet that is immune to the little black dress.”

Kiera nodded then went up the staircase as Maeve pulled out her phone and texted Micah, informing him of their dinner plans before she went up the stairs to her and Micah’s apartment.

Maeve and Kiera had been gone for almost two hours shopping. While Micah had taken Caleb downstairs in the basement workout area. This place had weights, both free and machines along with treadmills, and ellipticals. The was also a large area covered with blue floor mats.

Micah spent about an hour explaining and testing the extent of Caleb’s Angelic abilities. He also theorized that Caleb’s use of his Craft would be significantly enhanced.

“Holy crap, I’m ripped!” Caleb exclaimed after taking off his shirt to find that instead of a six-pack he had an eight-pack and the rest of his torso was shredded with defined muscle.

Turning, Micah asked, “I’m guessing you haven’t always looked like that.” He gestured with his hand indicating Caleb’s physic.

“No, I was beanpole with little muscle definition. I mean I wasn’t a weakling but I sure as hell wasn’t built like this either.” Caleb turned while checking himself out in the mirrors that hung along the wall. He also noticed that the markings that his sister had carved into his flesh had changed and now looked like archaic tattoos that if one looked closely, they appeared to shift and change.

Holding up his hand and arm for closer examination, “Is this normal?”

Micah moved to Caleb’s side, “I don’t know, but then again maybe some of my brothers or sisters might have similar markings. Are these the marks that Morrigan used to accelerate the merging of your Witch and Angel abilities?”

“Yeah, my sister, Celeste is the one that carved them using what looked like an ancient silver knife. How did they gain access to the Angelic language?”

“If I had to guess I’d say Bronwyn traded the knowledge in exchange for summoning Samael for her,” Micah offered.

“If what I know is correct then, my mother used a combination of her abilities along with her knowledge of the angelic language to craft a spell that awakened the dormant abilities that I got from my father.” Caleb theorized, “How was it so easy for her to…make me do what she wanted?”

Micah spun Caleb as he followed the flow that the angelic script bringing him up to Caleb’s other arm. “I think I found out how. Morrigan wove a compulsion into the spell. I think she knew that she wouldn’t be able to dominate you outright. It also explains why she fled after Kiera reached you and helped you gain control. It’s a good thing she’s pyrokinetic.”

“What do you mean?”

“She’s immune to your Balefire. Probably has a Fire Witch or some other type of fire supernatural in her family history,” Micah replied.

“What do we do now?” Caleb asked curiously.

Micah smiled devilishly at him. “Now we try hand to hand,” He indicated the that they moved to the center of the mats. Once there they both to a ready stance before Micah began to test Caleb.

They lost track of time, and both were covered in sweat from the vigorous workout before Micah rushed Caleb only to have him use Micah’s momentum against him and flip him onto his back.

Before Micah flipped back to his feet, he noticed movement at the top of the stairs. It was brief, but he would swear he caught a hint of his mate’s scent. Once on his feet, Micah went over to where the towels were stacked and threw one to Caleb. “I think the ladies have returned. If I know Maeve, we will be going out to dinner tonight. Why don’t you head up to the guest apartment and get ready.”

Caleb wiped his face and torso, “I don’t have any going out clothes.”

Micah’s phone buzzed and after reading the text turned to Caleb, “I was right, and if I know Maeve you’ll find something waiting for you.”

Caleb unlocked the door to the guest apartment, and sure enough, he found a pair of dark grey dress slacks and a light grey dress shirt both in his size hanging with a note attached.

Taking the note, Caleb read, I hope you don’t mind, but I think you and Kiera need a night out before you two begin the next part of your lives. You will also find some more new clothes that are more to your liking in the closet. Maeve.

He placed the note on the dresser then went to the closet to find several pairs of jeans and tee-shirts hanging along with a new leather jacket.

About an hour later Caleb was back downstairs talking with some of the security staff when Craig motioned for him to turn around.

What Caleb saw made his heart race and his stomach drop. Kiera had just come down the stairs, and she was stunningly beautiful in the black lace dress that hugged her athletic curves and stopped just above her knees. The black dress made the freckles stand out on her cream-colored complexion. She blushed after noticing Caleb’s reaction, but her green eyes sparkled as she bit her lip and moved a lock of her now pixie cut red hair behind her ear.

“You approve?” Kiera asked shyly then began to take in Caleb’s dress. He was pure walking sin now, and she could understand why women succumbed to the first Fallen. Caleb was still slender, but she could make out how his physic had changed under the grey slacks and dress shirt. He stood with a confidence that she had always known he had but never showed anyone. There was also a hardness to his blue-grey eyes that softened when they met her green ones.

A smile spread wide on Caleb’s face, “There is no goddess alive that would match your beauty.”

Kiera blushed deeply again before she moved to his side and took his hands in hers as the young couple stood there staring into each other’s eyes.

Neither Caleb or Kiera knew how long they stood there until someone behind them cleared their throat.

“Were we that bad at first?” Micah asked.

“I think you were more shocked and if I remember correctly, you were trying not to kill the shifters from my pack back then,” Maeve replied with a chuckle.

“Are you two ready?” Micah asked Caleb and Kiera after they nod that they are he continues, “Good, we have reservations at the Harvard Club.” Micah took Maeve’s hand, and after kissing it, he leads them out the back to a waiting limousine.

The evening turned out fabulous the dinner at the Harvard Club was to die for, and they ended the night at the Cask & Flagon next to Fenway Park before returning to Fenris Security’s headquarters that doubled as Micah and Maeve’s second home.

Micah and Maeve bid Caleb and Kiera a goodnight before disappearing up the stairs that led to their apartment.

That left Caleb and Kiera alone on the landing to the second floor where they had each been given an apartment to use. They stood there a little while with an awkward silence between them before Kiera saw a fire in Caleb’s eyes before he took her face in his hands and lowered his mouth to hers.

As the kiss continued Kiera pulled Caleb to her before pulling his dress shirt free from his pants so she could run her hands up under his shirt along with his newly discovered eight pack.

A soft growl escaped from Caleb while he continued to devour her mouth with his. Kiera teased open his lips with her tongue so she could taste him. The longer the kiss lasted the harder she pulled him against her.

Caleb broke the kiss off, and Kiera leaned back against the hallway wall, her breast heaving with panting breaths and hunger in her eyes. She saw that same heavy breathing and desire in his eyes.

He then did something that knocked the breath out if Kiera. Caleb dropped to his knees before Kiera then ran his hands up her smooth, creamy thighs disappearing under the hem of her dress. His hands stopped then began a slow descent back down. Kiera gasped when she felt her lace thong sliding down her legs with his hands.

“If we’re…going to…continue this…I need to…unlock the door,” She barely got out before he raised the bottom of her dress and began to softly caress her already on fire core with his mouth.

Kiera ran her hands through his hair while he continued to excite her with his mouth and tongue. Soft moans escaped from her lips with each panted breath. Her climax grew with his continued attention, so she didn’t realize Caleb had unlocked and opened the door to the apartment.

She held him in place as she rode the wave of pleasure he had just given her. Once she relaxed her hold on him, Caleb stood up and lifted Kiera in his arms which allowed her to wrap her legs around his waist so he could move them into the apartment. Not bothering to turn on the lights he closed the door behind them. Neither of them realizing that Kiera’s lace thong still laid on the floor of the hallway.
