“Are you sure you don’t want to give college a try?” Mama asked. “I know you didn’t feel the need to go, but now that you’re not working at the hospital anymore, perhaps you’d feel differently about school.”
“Cynthia,” Ted said in a playful warning tone. “If Eddie wants to go to college, we’ll support that, but let’s not push.” He turned to me. “How about if I give you a ride to work in the morning and meet Hollis in person? I think that would make your mother feel a lot better.”
