His Mate - Brothers - Say What? by M.L Briers (35)

~

“But why?” River whined, using the same tone of voice that he’d heard Audrey use. That tone seemed to both annoy and amuse his mate at the same time, and he figured — why the hell not?

“Do not start with me — you know why” Breanna offered back with one eyebrow cocked in his direction. She didn’t look impressed.

“But now that we’re mated — fate says that I get to drive your Shelby…”

“Fate does — does fate?”

“Well, maybe not fate, but…”

“Give it up, she’s never going to let you drive that car,” Rock chuckled.

“I wouldn’t even breathe within a hundred feet of it if I were you,” Cary warned him.

“Luckily, you’re not me,” River offered back. “I’m charming, rich, good-looking, as sexy as hell, did I mention rich…?”

“Yes, River, you did.” Ava snorted her contempt for the man.

“And apparently, I taste good,” River grinned from ear to ear.

“Still not a chance in hell,” Breanna tossed back.

“But, honey, what’s mine is yours, and your Cobra is mine…” he tossed back, but she offered him a snort of contempt.

“Over my dead body,” Breanna muttered.

“Honey, does it have to go that far?” River chuckled. He stopped chuckling when she offered him a death glare.

“I’ve seen what you do to cars…” Breanna tossed back.

“That was not me…”

“You’re the idiot that let Audrey drive your car in the first place. How did you expect that to end?” Breanna tossed back.

“Hey, I was run off the road by a damn vampire,” Audrey protested.

“That was his fault too,” Breanna said, offering him another glare, and getting a look of disbelief back in return.

“How was that my fault?” River asked. Then he raised his hand to silence her. “Never mind. It’s been months — can’t we just put that on the backburner?”

“No.” Breanna folded her arms and snorted at him.

“But there’s so much more to think about, to do, to explore the great wide world in…”

“Not my car.”

“Fine. I will find where you’re hiding the keys — and if it was anything other than a Cobra then I would have hotwired it by now — I’m just saying.” River grunted as he folded his arms across his chest.

“Wow, I never knew that you were such a pouty girl,” Frankie chuckled at the vampire.

“He puts Audrey to shame,” Cary chuckled.

“Mock me, I don’t care — nothing matters much when your mate doesn’t even trust you enough to allow you to drive her car,” River said, lifting his chin and looking anywhere but at Breanna, and she grunted once more.

“He’s here,” Rock informed Breanna, and River noted that his mate looked pleased with herself.

“Who is he?” River sniffed deviousness.

“As old as you, I would have thought you would have learned patience by now,” Breanna berated him as she got to her feet and turned towards the sound of the flatbed as it came into sight.

There on the back was a sight that made his jaw drop.

“Catching flies is a good look for you,” Ava chuckled.

“Cobra…” River drooled.

“For you. And now we have a matching pair, but, of course, my one hasn’t been restored…”

“So, you’re one is better than my one?” River frowned. “I can live with that.”

“Can I…?” Audrey started, and his head snapped around on his neck as he glared at her in horror.

“Not a chance in hell with bells on,” he ground out.

“Now you’re learning,” Breanna chuckled.

“Take me for a ride?” Ava clapped her hands together with excitement and enthusiasm.

“No pregnant witches in my car…” River grumbled.

“It’s not like we’ve got the bloody plague or anything,” Lana berated him.

“No, just the need to throw up every five seconds,” River grumbled back.

“That’s not our fault,” Frankie tossed a glare at the alpha, and he opened his mouth to speak, but thought better of it.

It wasn’t as if her hormones weren’t running riot and she felt the need to chew his head off every five minutes either. He’d learned his lesson, and he was keeping his mouth shut.

Rock had told himself that things were going to change around the pack — and they had. Three witches and a vampire later, and he didn’t know how things were going to play out, but if he were a betting man, then he’d place a bet that things were going to be just fine.

Family was everything, and they had everything they needed right there.

And now that Sister Mary Kate had let the cat out of the bag about knowing their little secret … well, she wasn’t backward in coming forwards and getting them to help out with any little problems that cropped up around the nunnery.

And they say witches were devious.

The End.
