Love Discovered by C.M. Steele (8)

Devlin

Fuck, my behavior was almost as bad as his. I wanted to beat up anyone who gave her a second glance. Hell, even a first one. I forced her into a relationship, and as much as I hated it, I had to let her go.

"Son, what's going on? You turned into an ice-cold dick all of a sudden."

"That's not new."

"It is when it comes to Selene. Did you have a change of heart?"

"No! I love her, but she didn't choose me. She told me to back off like twenty times and I didn't. I just gave her space for a few hours and that was it. She is only here because it was dangerous, and my men had the place secured."

"Yeah, and now you essentially dismissed her. If you saw the way she looked as you walked away so abruptly, you wouldn't be thinking that."

"What do you mean?"

"She couldn't have seemed more defeated. If you’re going to be a good husband, you need to not be so selfish."

I was up on my feet despite the pain in my head, but before I moved an inch I passed out.

I woke up in my bed with my mom and dad around me, but Selene was nowhere to be found. "Where's Selene?" I asked in a panic.

“She had some calls to make.” I didn’t like the way my mother said that. It came off as bullshit.

“Bull, where is she?”

“She’s in the other room.”

“Why? Can you call her in here and give us a minute?”

My parents left, then Selene came in. I looked at her tearstained face and felt my heart crumbling. I did that to her. It wasn’t intentional. Shit, I wasn’t even aware of it before I passed out.

“Selene.”

“Devlin, please, you don’t have to say anything. I’m going to get a place soon.”

I sat up in a flash, feeling dizzy, though I could hear her saying, “Stop moving, you dummy.”

“I am one because I gave you the wrong damn impression.”

“I know.”

“So, you’re leaving because you don’t want to be in this relationship?”

“You’re the one who jumped into it based on fading feelings.”

“What? I didn’t. I don’t want you to leave—ever.”

“I think you hit your head when you fell.”

“I know I did, but that has nothing to do with it. My dad came and told me that I upset you and I was about to tell you I didn’t mean to at all when I collapsed. Come here,” I ordered. She shook her head. “Are you going to make me get you?” I threw the blanket off me.

“Don’t do that,” she exclaimed, thrusting her hands out to stop me as she came over to me.

I took her hand in mine and pulled her onto the bed. She stumbled and landed her body on mine, just like I wanted. I lifted her a little so her legs straddled me.

“Look at me.” I tipped her chin. “What I’m going to ask is serious as fuck.” She nodded. “I’m fucking obsessed with you. There’s no denying that. While they were talking about that nut, I realized I was no better. I essentially demanded you were mine and that was it.”

She pressed her hand to my mouth, silencing me. “Devlin, you’re not the same. We don’t have that same relationship.” She removed her hand away from my mouth. “I didn’t show Ken any interest. Not once. You on the other hand, well, I knew from the first encounter that the way I wanted you was a dead giveaway.”

“It was, but that didn’t mean anything when you kept saying no and I pushed it.”

“Actually, you left when I asked you to. That tells me you didn’t want to hurt me or push it.”

“But you ran, and I forced my guy to kidnap you and bring you here.”

“For my safety, and did I act like I didn’t want to be here last night?”

“I thought maybe you were making the best of a lousy situation.”

“I could have easily called the cops. Reggie left me alone for a long time. All I could think about was I hope Ken didn’t get to any of you. If I wasn’t worried about him, I wouldn’t have pushed you away.” I arched my brow because that wasn’t quite true. “Okay, I wouldn’t have let it carry on.”

I pressed my hand to her cheek, sliding it into her hair. “I’m in love with you, Selene.” I sealed my words with a kiss, adding my other hand into her hair, deepening our connection. She rocked her hips naturally, steadily making me hard. Her hands slid over my shoulders, up my neck and into my hair. I growled, and flipped her onto the mattress. With my hands holding up my weight, I laid over her with my hips grinding down on her pussy.

“God, I want you naked.” I crushed my lips to hers again, claiming every gasp that came from her. Never in my life had I ever felt the need to claim anyone. I knew then and there I would always be possessive of her, but I would love her like she deserved.

“Devlin, stop. Stop.” I pulled away, a little hurt, still horny as hell, but it’s what she wanted. I wouldn’t push her into this.

“I’m sorry, babe. I got carried away.”

“I know, so did I, but you’re not physically ready for it.”

“I think I am,” I chuckled, grinding my cock against her to make my point.

“I know that, but you’re still dizzy and you should have remained in the hospital. In fact, the doctor should be here any minute.”

“Damn it, why do you have to use reason.” I rolled to the side, laying on my back. She climbed off the bed. “Wait, don’t go.”

“Um, I need to because I don’t want the doctor thinking I’m a bad influence.”

“Oh, you are, and as soon as I get the okay, I’m going to punish you for it.”

“I’ll be gladly waiting for it. Reggie is supposed to be bringing lunch for us. Rest.” She leaned over and that was a big mistake because I pulled her back on the bed and squeezed her round ass.

“Ah! Let me go, you ding dong,” she squealed. I grabbed her waist before wiggling my fingers, tickling her. Fuck, her laugh was beautiful.

“Stop, stop, Devlin,” she choked out between hard breathing and laughing. I stopped only because she was on the verge of hyperventilating.

“Sorry, babe. I can’t help it. I want you in my arms all the time.” She pulled away. “God, you look so sexy when you’re flushed.”

“Damn it, Dev. You need to get better, so you can do me on every damn surface in this place. Until then, quit that sexy talk. It’s unkind. And if you keep it up, I’ll have to stay somewhere else.”

“Fine, I’ll try to behave.”

“Now rest. I’ll bring you some food in a minute.” I could have made a joke about making me a sandwich, but I was sure she’d leave the paper on the cheese slice. I watched her walk out in those tight ass jeans that kissed every curve. My mom may have done too good of a job picking out her outfit.

I heard the buzzer. “Send the doctor in,” I called out. I wanted a clean bill of health like yesterday, so I could make my woman’s words come true.
