Meet Your Match (Disastrous Dates Book 1) by Kayla Tirrell (10)

10

TWO WEEKS LATER:

Morgan sat across from Dominick and Harmony conducting their post-date interview. Even with the past few weeks going the way they had, she’d never guessed these two would make a perfect match. In fact, if she had to make a prediction of the two people least likely to hit it off, she would have put them.

It was a good thing she wasn’t the betting type, or she’d be in major debt.

The two sat close to one another, never letting contact break for longer than a few seconds. They were either holding hands, or Dominick had his arm around her shoulders, or Harmony was pushing back Dominick’s hair. Hair that was in no danger of getting into his eyes.

It was adorable, really it was, but it also made her wonder where she went wrong. This wasn’t the only date she’d messed up, of course. And it wasn’t the only mismatched couple who’d found happiness despite going against her well-established formulas.

Morgan was thankful she’d thought to make post-date interviews a thing before everything got messed up. That way she could gain some insight into why things went the ways they did.

She scribbled in her notebook—the one that held all of her secrets.

“Okay, just one last question, and we can wrap this up.” Morgan looked up at the happy couple. “Would you use the Date Maker service again?”

“Absolutely not,” Harmony answered. Dominick smiled and nodded enthusiastically beside her.

“But… I thought you two were happy?”

They laughed, and this time Dominick answered. “We are. Which is why we don’t plan to use it again.”

“We don’t need it anymore,” Harmony added.

Morgan took a deep breath and set her pen down on top of the notebook. She looked at Harmony with question in her eyes. “What I mean is would you use me again if something were to…” She bit her bottom lip.

“You mean if we broke up?” Dominick guessed and glanced over at Harmony before speaking again. “Shouldn’t you be happy we’re satisfied customers? Isn’t that the whole purpose behind the Date Maker?”

“But you weren’t supposed to be together!” Morgan argued. “You’ve literally been dating for two weeks. It doesn’t make sense.”

Harmony shrugged. “Maybe it doesn’t have to make sense. Maybe it’s okay to let these things happen.”

Let these things happen? Didn’t Harmony and Dominick realize it would never have happened if it weren’t for her? Everything might have gone off-course, but this was most definitely her doing.

Morgan shook her head and took a deep breath.

It wasn’t like her to get to upset with people. Things had been completely upside-down ever since her run-in with Declan. She’d been avoiding him for weeks, but wasn’t sure how much longer she could hide in the back of the coffee shop, or ignore his texts—because yes, somehow he’d gotten her number.

She smiled and looked at the happy couple. “So, does this mean you’ve found your soulmate?”

The question was ridiculous, she knew that, and two sets of wide-eyes confirmed her suspicions. Dominick made a choking sound.

Harmony’s eyes went back-and-forth before settling on Morgan. “We’ve been dating for two weeks. I think it’s a little early to think something like that.”

“But,” Dominick added, able to breathe once again. “We’re happy, and we’re still enjoying getting to know each other.”

The two looked at each other, as if in sync, when he’d finished speaking. After gazing into each other’s eyes for an uncomfortable amount of time, Harmony turned to face Morgan. “If you have more questions, ask me during our next shift together. Dominick and I are off to First Friday.”

It was a monthly event held downtown. The city closed down the streets and all kinds of venders set up pop-up tents in hopes of selling their wares. It was a perfect time to walk around and enjoy someone else’s company. Morgan had already considered using it for some of her dates but was waiting for the right couple.

Morgan nodded and watched as the two walked off—hand-in-hand. Maybe this was the right couple for that fate.

She pulled out her files, and looked at the next couple she was scheduled to interview. It was another mixed-up match—one of many. She sighed as she went to meet them.

It was going to be a long week.
