Epilogue
Alanna
One Year and Six Months Later.
“Ma, ma, ma,” Titus shouted from the other side of the door.
Our son was going to be the death of me.
“Mama will be right out, “I called out to him.
“Ma, ma, now?” Titus’ little voice wavered slightly.
Was I ready for this again? Grabbing the second stick, it said the same thing and so did the third and fourth. I was pregnant again, and Reyes was making good on his promise to keep me barefoot and pregnant.
“Alanna?” Bianca shouted from down the hall.
It was like a horrible déjà vu. The last time this happened, Bianca came barging into the bathroom and invaded my white stick party.
Looking at the counter, I sighed. Bianca was about to do it again.
“I’ll be right out!” I told her quickly.
“Did you fall in? You’ve been in there for like twenty minutes.” She said.
Was I really in here that long? It felt like maybe five tops.
“People are starting to arrive!” Bianca shouted from the other side.
Today was Titus’ first birthday, and apparently the day I found out that I was pregnant again with baby number two.
“I’m coming,” I told her as I swiped the little sticks into the trash can.
Standing, I flushed the toilet and washed my hands. Looking into the mirror, I took in my pale complexion. Reyes was going to know something was up.
“Alanna?” Reyes called from the other side of the door.
What the fuck? Did everyone decide I needed a rescue party?
“I’m coming,” I snapped.
The door opened just a little, and Reyes slipped into the room.
“What’s wrong baby?” he asks when his eyes scanned my face.
“IT’s happening again,” I cried.
“What?” he asks in concern.
“I’m fucking pregnant, you asshole!” I snapped at him.
Slapping a hand over my mouth, I felt my eyes get large. I wasn’t going to tell anyone, not yet anyway.
“You’re pregnant?” he asked not sounding at all shocked.
Narrowing my eyes, I took in his all too innocent expression.
“You did this on purpose!” I screamed.
He just laughed and pulled me towards him, kissing the top of my head.
“Is that so bad?” he asked me quietly.
“No,” I grumbled back.
I thought that life would be different from what it was, but Reyes stayed faithful. I guess I was that girl that could tame him.
“I love you,” I told him, leaning back to kiss his lips.
“I love you too, baby,” he tells me.
Then goes down on his knees and presses his lips to my flat stomach.
“I love you too little one,” he tells our child.
“Let’s go, we have people waiting,” he tells me while standing up and grabbing my hand.
“Wait!” I tell him.
He turns and looks at me, one eyebrow cocked.
“I want to keep it a secret, its Titus’ birthday and it should be about him,” I tell him with a slight hand squeeze.
“Did I tell you that I loved you?” he asked me with a crooked smile.
“Yes, you do every day,” I tell him with an eye roll.
“Are you complaining?” he asked, and his voice held a note of mischief.
“NO!” I laughed.
Ducking under his arm, I rushed to the door and pulled it open. I turned my head and stuck my tongue out at him and ran down the hallway laughing as he chased me.
“Alanna it’s about time!” Bianca exclaims holding little Winter in her arms. Ryan finally pulled his head out of his ass and Winter was their seven-month-old daughter.
Life was perfect, even if Reyes was a little wild. I wouldn’t change anything, not even the gritty bits.
