The last two days haven’t gone according to plan, as Marin seems to be tip-toeing around me both in and outside the lab.
After the night we spent together, things grew awkward. More on Marin’s part than mine. She’s withdrawn considerably in our exchanges, and anytime I get within an arm’s distance, she flinches and moves away.
I noticed it almost instantaneously after we fucked the other night. As soon as I pulled out, Marin turned away and extracted herself from any further physical touch. And now two days later, she remains quiet and detached, giving me one syllable answers to all my questions.
Right now, her head is bent down as she enters data into her laptop.
“Marin?”
She lifts her face and her eyes regard me inquisitively.
“Would you like to go to dinner tonight?”
She nervously glances around the room, finding that we are the last ones here. It’s well past eight p.m.
“Oh…um…no, I…” She sucks on her bottom lip.

“Can we address the elephant in the room, please?”
She looks startled. “What elephant is that?”
I point between us. “Right here. This. You’ve avoided me since the night we fucked. Why is that?”
Standing from my seated position, I walk around the edge of the table and move behind her. Placing my hands on her hips, I swivel her around in the chair so she faces me. Hoping to gain some reaction other than disinterest, I drag my hands down her thighs until they land on her bare knees.
“Do you regret it, Marin? Because I don’t. In fact, all I’ve been thinking about is when I can fuck you again. I would’ve that night and the next morning, too, had you not shut down on me.”
My palms circle her knees and I feel her shiver. Good. At least I know I’m affecting her, but I don’t know if it’s repulsion or desire. I guess there’s only one way to find out.
I trace a feather-light touch up the inside of her thigh and her eyes close as she moans. When my fingers reach the edge of her shorts, I stop.
“Well?” I prod.
She inhales deeply and I watch her throat constrict as she swallows.
“You’re my boss, Nathaniel. I shouldn’t have slept with you. I don’t do things like that. I made a bad decision.”
I smirk. “You’re calling me a bad decision?”
Marin straightens in her chair. Licking my lips, I lean in and press her knees open with my hands and nestle into the cleft of her body.
My lips are at her ear as I whisper, “Did you enjoy it when I fucked you?”
Her body trembles in response.
“Yes. But…”
Rolling the tip of my tongue over the shell of her ear, I can smell her light citrusy scent.
“Shhh. The only question is this…do you want me to fuck you again?”
I don’t give her time to respond, instead, I lift her off the chair and place her on the table, pushing everything to the side. Marin protests with a little gasp and I bite her earlobe.
“Of course. I just need this job and I don’t want anything to ruin it.”
Plowing my fingers through the soft strands of her hair, I apply pressure at the back of her neck, bending to kiss her forehead.
“Marin,” I emphasize with a squeeze at her nape. “I’ve never felt this way about anyone else before.”
“Never?” she asks with an innocent inflection to her voice.
I shake my head. “Never.”
Sliding my hands to her cheeks, I brush her bottom lip with my thumb.
“I’ve fallen for you, Marin. I want more of you. You’re not only a very capable assistant, but an amazing woman. I want you by my side and in my bed every day and every night from this day forward.”
She smiles brightly, her eyes twinkling with happiness.
“Yes. I’d like that. I want more with you, too.”
With a wink, I lift her in my arms and head toward the door. “Then it’s settled. Now, let’s talk about getting you into my bed.”
