Sassy Ever After: From Scotland, With Sass (Kindle Worlds Novella) (Highland Wolf Clan Book 7) by A K Michaels (13)

Belle

My wrists burned with agony as the rogue dragged me through the forest, stopping to throw me over his shoulder when my feet slowed down enough to anger him.

He slapped my ass, hard, then pinched it, digging his nails in roughly. “I can’t wait to force you to submit.”

“Never,” I spat out, trying to sound defiant, but even to my ears I just sounded scared and desperate.

Who the hell wouldn’t be? I’d been kidnapped by a filthy rogue Alpha, hell-bent on making me his, and the man I loved was probably already dead.

No it didn’t matter that Sandy was big, powerful, and a Second, no, even he couldn’t tackle a group of rogues. I had to admit to myself that he would never survive a fight against six Wolves and that left me so despondent that I actually thought my heart would stop beating.

I’d rather be dead than live without him and that proved to me how right he’d been about our bond.

Knowing I’d been stupid to try and deny our attraction, our bond, our love, just made things all the worse. I was scared, but I also knew I’d fight this fucker to the death to stop him from violating me. No way would I allow him to defile me in that way. I’d tear my own throat out first.

If I get the chance that is.

With silver on my wrists, burning its way into my skin, and leeching away my strength, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to put up much of a fight.

I had to though. I wouldn’t let Sandy’s death be in vain. I would not allow this rogue to do what he wanted to me. No. I. Would. Not.

I refused to think of any other way out other than my death. I would not allow myself to think of a life with these rogues. I rejected the idea of living with him and his pack of dirty dogs.

That was so not happening.

Shit. I hoped I was strong enough to stop it.

I bounced around as they picked up their pace, my head hitting off his lower back again and again. Soon the motion caused my stomach to roll and I thought I’d throw up, and it would serve him right if I puked all down his filthy ass. His stench was so overpowering that he might not even notice the added aroma of my puke.

His startled shout making me try to focus on what was going on. “They’re close, come on, we need to get back to the others.”

What? Who was close? What was happening?

I turned away from my inner musings, focusing on my surroundings. Through the queasiness rolling through me I thought I could hear the sound of someone, or something, rushing through the forest behind us. What the hell?

Could it be Sandy? But how? There was no way he could fend off six Wolves, so I didn’t allow myself to think along those lines. I’d known as I’d been led away that his fate was sealed but if it wasn’t Sandy then what was going on?

Maybe it was my own Pack, somehow they’d been alerted to what had happened and come to my rescue. I’d been unable to make contact with anyone the second the silver had been slapped on me. For a millisecond my heart soared at the thought of being rescued, then it dropped down like a stone as the loss of Sandy grew inside me like a lethal disease.

If I was indeed rescued, I’d thank whoever it was for saving me from this stinking Alpha, but then I’d slink away to die. I doubted either my beast or I could survive the loss of that brooding, sexy-as-hell Scotsman.

I felt the tension rumble through the asshole carrying me, his body taut and eager to get away. From what, or who, I didn’t know. I just hoped it didn’t toss me out of the frying pan and into the fire.

For all I knew there were more rogues in the area and it was them that was chasing us down. Now wouldn’t that just be the icing on the cake? Not.

I almost smiled at the irony, but I literally didn’t have the strength. The silver invading my system had robbed me of every last ounce. I’d heard about the effects of silver my entire life but I never thought I’d experience it first-hand. Hey, goody for me. If I ever got out of this shitting mess, I’d be able to alert any pups to how lethal the stuff could be.

There I go again. My mind floating away on irrelevant tangents, yet I was unable to now force it to focus on anything but how I felt. How I felt was downright awful. Fear and pain were not a good combination and I just wanted it to end. Period.

That’s when my head bounced again, my dimming eyes making out a strange huge ebony Wolf pounding toward us. Oh hell. Not my Pack after all. No point in fighting any longer so I allowed the darkness to take me, hoping against hope, that I wouldn’t awaken.
