Epilogue

“I deserve an award for going to a poolside barbeque when I’m so freaking huge,” I grumbled while I waited for Quinn to help Bryden out of his car seat. Ever since he turned two a couple of weeks ago, our baby boy had decided that he could do everything himself—or at least provide his version of help. As we were leaving for the party at Xander and Calista’s house, he’d managed to jam the harness clip on his car seat, and now the button wasn’t releasing properly. “Nobody else is pregnant, and I’m going to look like a beached whale. The least Aspen could have done is gotten knocked up again so I wouldn’t have been alone this time around.”
Quinn glanced over his shoulder, laughing at my ridiculousness. Aspen and my brother already had their hands full with Carter, Willow, and Lacey. They didn’t need to add to the madness at their house with a fourth baby. Not yet, anyway. If Weston had his way, they’d end up with enough kids to fill a minivan in no time. Not that I could judge them for it since there would be only twenty-five months between Bryden and his baby brother or sister. We weren’t sure if we were going to have a boy or a girl since I’d wanted it to be a surprise this time around.
Quinn finally lifted Bryden out of his seat and turned to set him on the ground next to me. As soon as he was down, he ran towards the house as fast as his little legs would take him. Quinn wrapped his arm around my back as we followed after our son. “If you don’t know how sexy you are, then I’m seriously falling down on the job.”
“Of course you think I’m sexy.” I rubbed a hand over my swollen belly. “You see this, and all you think about is how you put it there and how horny being pregnant makes me.”
His dark eyes flared possessively, and I knew exactly what was coming next. Even after being together for eight years, married for almost three, he was as territorial as ever. “Then you’ve got nothing to worry about since I’m the only one who should be looking at your sexy body in your swimsuit anyway.”
“Whatever,” I mumbled, rolling my eyes. “Maybe I’ll sit with Jessa. She does such a good job blending into the woodwork that nobody will notice us hiding in the corner.”
“Like you’ll be able to resist getting in the pool with Bryden,” he chuckled.
He was right, too. Barely fifteen minutes into the party, I found myself in the pool with Quinn and our squirming son, who was trying to pull his arm floaties off. Bryden wanted to swim with Xander and Calista’s youngest, Kiefer, but he didn’t want to go in the water without his mommy. So off went my cover-up and into the water I went. I was floating on my back, my big belly sticking out of the water, while Quinn and Xander played with the boys. Weston was playing with Carter and Willow on the slide and swings, which left Calista and Aspen free to sip margaritas on the patio.
I swam towards the side of the pool near where they were sitting. “Hey!” I called. “Can one of you lazy pants grab the pregnant lady a drink, please.”
Calista roared with laughter, but Aspen chuckled softly while she rose to her feet. She walked towards me and crouched down to hand me the full glass she’d been holding. “Here you go.”
I wrinkled my nose at her. “You know I can’t drink that!”
“Sure you can. There isn’t any alcohol in mine.”
“There isn’t?” I was so damn thirsty I grabbed it from her hand and gulped down half the contents before it dawned on me why she wasn’t drinking tequila in her margarita. “Wait! Are you pregnant?”
“Yeah.” She beamed at me. “We just found out this morning.”
“Ohmigosh!” I squealed. I tried to climb out of the pool to give her a hug, but I couldn’t quite swing it.
“Careful, baby.” One of Quinn’s warm hands wrapped around my waist. “I’ve got you.”
He always had. From that very first day.
