Three if by Sea: MMF Bisexual Romance by Nicole Stewart (22)

Chapter 22

Amelia woke the next morning, sandwiched between the two men, blinking and feeling as if she’d woken from a lucid dream. She’d slept with two men, at the same time. Two men, who it turns out, were also sleeping with each other. She shook her head. This wasn't in the brochure.

The light filtering in through the curtains woke Adam, and he rolled away from her onto his stomach. His eyes opening lazily as he turned his head towards her. It felt like a sleepy weekend morning, although Amelia knew it wasn’t late at all—Adam made sure light could get into the room in the morning, so he wouldn’t oversleep and start the morning chores too late. She, on the other hand, preferred to wake in total darkness.

Callum seemed to share her views on mornings. He’d been on his back, and he moved an arm over his eyes to block out the sun. “For god’s sake, Adam,” he mumbled. “Turn the lights off, will you?” His voice was thick and sleepy.

Amelia felt a sharp flutter in her stomach as she realized how much she enjoyed hearing it. She’d miss that, she realized, when she went back to Chicago. She’d miss hearing both their voices. She felt her throat tighten with emotion at the thought of leaving, and suddenly she found herself toying with it in her mind—the idea that maybe she could stay. She could go to Edinburgh, find a job, and date her two men. Her men.

Adam rolled over to get up, and Amelia felt rather than heard Callum’s groan at the disturbance of the bed. She felt the touch of Adam’s hand on her hip, almost an afterthought as he sat up, his broad, nude back in full view.

She reached out then, her fingertips trailing down the ridge of his spine, feeling the smooth expanse of his skin, and the way it pebbled under her fingers, gooseflesh springing up at her touch. Adam shivered. “I’ll not be able to get out of bed if you keep that up,” he murmured, his voice still thick and drowsy, and Amelia resisted the urge to reach out to him, to slide her hands down his waist and over his thighs, reaching for the part of him that she knew would cause him to remain in bed for a while.

“Go on then,” she said softly, letting her nails scratch over his spine once before he stood, walking to the closet. She watched him, admiring how he looked nude, the broad shoulders tapering down to a waist and ass hewn by hours of work outside. She rolled over onto her back and saw that Callum was now fully awake, and was watching Adam with the same look of admiration and lust as she no doubt was.

Dressed in jeans and flannel, Adam peered out of the window. “It looks like it’s going to be a nice day out. When you two finally make your way out of bed, what do you say to a ride?”

“Isn’t that what we just did last night?” Callum deadpanned, raising one coppery eyebrow. Amelia tried to stifle her laughter.

Adam made a sound in his throat that sounded something like a snort. “Aye, that we did. I was thinking more of the horseback sort, though, yeah?”

Callum looked as if he were winding up to make another joke, but Amelia quickly spoke up before he could continue ribbing Adam. “That sounds like a lovely idea.”

“Good.” Adam glanced at Callum. “I’ll be back soon.”

“Is that a promise?” Callum raised one eyebrow. “Certainly sounds like a promise.”

Adam shook his head, chuckling as he turned on his heel and headed out of the room.

Callum rolled towards Amelia, his fingers wrapping around her hip and pulling her closer. “What a way to wake up.” He brushed his lips over her shoulder, and Amelia shivered a little. “We should probably get up,” she whispered. His fingers were sliding down her hip now to the top of her thigh, sliding down the curve of it, and she could feel herself turning towards him even as she said it.

“It’s nice to have you here,” Callum murmured, his mouth inches from hers. “I was hoping there’d be a time when you didn’t run away.”

“Not much point in it now,” Amelia said, laughing softly. The sex had broken down barriers, opening her up to a completely different idea of what could be. Still, she reminded herself that this thing, whatever it was, was temporary. She couldn’t afford to let herself get too comfortable.

Amelia rolled fully onto her side, feeling Callum’s knee slide between hers. She hooked one leg over his hip as his hand found her hair, his fingers curling around the back of her scalp and pulling her head towards his. She went, her lips seeking him out, and he kissed her lazily, his tongue sliding over the full curve of her lower lip as he reached for her thigh, pulling her flush against him. She moaned softly when she felt him slide smoothly into her, meshing them together effortlessly, and she melted against his body. It might be a while before they made it out of bed, after all.

An hour or so later, when they were in the barn, tacking up the horses. Amelia realized that she’d never seen two men so at ease around one another as Callum and Adam.

Callum was far less familiar with horses than Amelia had expected. Adam walked him through the steps required to ready the animals. He would touch the other man casually, a hand on his back as he moved around him, fingers brushing across the back of his hand when he guided it. Adam bent to check the stirrup leather and when he stood, hair falling in his eyes, Callum reached out almost unthinkingly and brushed it back, his hand skimming over Adam’s face. Amelia saw Adam’s shoulders rise quickly, with a sharp intake of breath, as his eyes locked onto Callum’s. His gaze so intense that she half expected them to kiss right then and there.

She knew she was witnessing the reactions of two people who had spent years thinking they would never feel each other's touch again. She almost felt like an intruder, like a third wheel on their date but she pushed that thought to the back of her mind. They’d included her last night, and it was obvious that they would continue to do so. It didn’t necessarily mean that she had to be a part of every moment. Besides, she quite enjoyed the role of voyeur.

She had her horse tacked in a few minutes, and she moved on to Adam’s without bothering to wait, seeing that he was still focused on assisting Callum. He glanced over and smiled at her, his face relaxing into an appreciative grin. A few minutes later, she saw him lace his fingers together beneath Callum’s heel, boosting him into the saddle, and Callum gathered up the reins as Adam showed him how to hold them.

“He’ll stay put until you say otherwise,” Adam reassured him. “This one's the calmest horse in the stable.” He patted the sleek black neck once, and then walked over to Amelia, who handed him the reins of his horse, a tall chestnut. She was in the saddle of her own mare, in no time, and Adam flashed a reassuring smile at Callum before clicking his tongue at his mount. “Off we go!” he said, and led the way.

Amelia relaxed into the saddle as she followed Adam out, Callum and Jacob bringing up the rear of the line. Once they were out of the stable and down the path, Adam reined his mount back so that they could ride three abreast. The horses’ hooves crunched in the snow as they rode, the cold wind ruffling their manes and the riders’ hair. Amelia pulled her scarf tighter around her neck. “Want to try a little faster?” she asked Callum, glancing at him. He looked at her dubiously, but nodded.

“Just touch him lightly with your heels,” Adam said. “Not too much, but he won’t jump out from under you anyway.”

“I really hope not,” Callum said dryly, his voice tinged with nervousness.

Amelia nudged her horse lightly, and the mare tossed her head, picking up her pace.

They rode through a patch of trees that were bare and icy, out onto a wide meadow.

“I’m going to let him out a bit,” Adam said. “Amelia, can you hang back with Callum?”

“Sure thing,” Amelia said, slowing. Callum looked apprehensive as Adam grinned at both of them and then let his grip on the reins loosen, his heels tapping against his mounts’ side. The tall chestnut let out a snort, appeared to gather himself, and then he let loose like a coiled spring. Amelia watched horse and rider take off across the meadow.

“Sorry you’re having to stay back,” Callum said. “You can take off if you like, I’m sure I’ll be alright.” He gestured towards the ground, where his horse was nudging at the snow with his hoof. “I don’t think this fellow is particularly interested in going anywhere.

“I don’t mind,” Amelia said, and it was only a tiny bit untrue. As much as she would like to gallop across the meadow, it was also nice to sit there, feeling comfortable with Callum as they watched Adam. She felt more comfortable with him than she had previously, and no doubt it had something to do with him slipping into her relationship with Adam. She glanced over at him, and from the look on his face as he stared out across the meadow, she would have bet money that he was thinking something very similar.
