Kept Safe by Lucy Wild (28)

Two years later…

There weren’t many people at the ceremony but then there didn’t need to be. The only person I cared about was there by my side. She smiled across at me as I slid the ring onto her finger. It was a smile that I loved to see, a smile that told me the truth about how she felt about me. It was a smile that had been on her face a lot since we’d moved here.

The few friends we’d made smiled too, enjoying watching the union of two lovers, the promise of so much potential, of a future filled with happiness.

Once we were done, the few witnesses faded away, leaving the two of us alone on the beach. Her smile faded, replaced by a look of deep sorrow. She looked like she was in intense pain. “Do you remember the first time we were stood here?” she asked, turning to look at me.

“The day you met your father. How could I forget?”

“Do you think he would have been happy for me? If he’d been here?”

I took her hand in mine, squeezing it tightly. “He would have loved every moment.”

“Was he proud of me? Do you think?”

“A best selling novelist for a daughter? Of course he was proud of you. He told me he loved your book.”

“He told you that?”

I nodded. “He did.”

A tear rolled down her cheek. “I spent so long thinking he was dead. And then he wasn’t. I hardly got to know him again before he died.”

“He was dying before we got here,” I said. “At least you got to say goodbye. Not everyone gets that.”

“Yeah,” she said, picking up a stone and throwing it into the sea. “Bye Dad. I miss you.” She was silent for a second before turning back to me. “I’m glad you brought me here.”

“Me too.”

“Ready to show off your dancing skills?” The smile was back on her face, though the sadness lingered for a few more moments.

“I’ve been practising for months.”

“You kept that quiet. Clearly, you’re a man of hidden talents.”

“Wait before you say that. You don’t know how many times I might tread on your foot.”

“I’m sure you’ll do fine.”

Her comforting me. It was strange how used to that I’d become. She’d tended my wounds, helped me recover, never asking for a thing from me. I realised for the hundredth time that I loved her with all my heart.

We headed back to the house. It had been six months since her father had died and she was still coming to terms with it. We had talked about putting back the wedding but she was adamant we should still go ahead, telling me, “He made me promise I would.” I had no desire to upset her by changing the plans against her wishes. I never wanted to upset her ever again. I’d done enough of that for a lifetime.

The few guests we had were already dancing, the musicians we’d hired were rough but happy, a bit like me. Holding her against me while we danced was the most wonderful feeling, as was knowing she was now mine forever. We would never have to part again. No one could come between us.

I’d followed the case from home. There had been efforts to trace me but I’d been careful, and eventually the authorities had moved on. The funeral of Bella’s mother had been a bleak and miserable affair by all accounts. She had many creditors, her wealth no more than smoke and mirrors. I guessed that was part of her reason for coming after Bella so hard. Get to her, get to him, get to him, get to his money. So much in this life comes down to money. For my part I couldn’t care less about it. All I cared about was holding my hand and walking me back to the house at that moment, to her house.

Her father had left her the mansion along with his fortune. After the dancing was done and the guests faded into the night, the two of us sat on the beach, looking up at the stars. She asked me what I thought about the house.

“I think it suits you.”

“And the money. What about all his money? I don’t think I should keep it. It came from crime. It’s dirty money.”

“Then give it away. It’s up to you what you do with it. No one else.”

“And what should we do about this place?”

“Live in it.”

“But he’s gone. There’s nothing keeping us here now. Don’t you want to go home?”

“Not really. I doubt they kept the job open for me.”

“You sure you don’t want to go back to loan selling? You might get top of the leader board again.”

I managed a smile. “I like it here.” I didn’t add that I felt safe her. I didn’t need to. I knew she felt the same. She just wanted reassuring. She was like that. “I like it a lot.”

“I’m glad you said that. I do too.”

“Besides,” I said, patting her stomach. “Who wouldn’t want to bring up their children on an island paradise?”

Her hand slid over mine as she turned to face me. “I love you Mr Rutherford,” she said.

“And I love you, Mrs Rutherford.”

She stretched upwards, her lips finding mine. My arms wrapped round her as we embraced, the sound of the waves fading away, everything fading away apart from me and her.

I lowered her down to the sand, kissing my way down her neck, my hands seeking her legs under her wedding dress. “You’ve never looked sexier,” I said, my eyebrows rising as I felt my way up her thigh. “And no panties, you bad girl.”

“I still like being the bad girl sometimes,” she replied, rolling onto her front. “That way you have to spank me.”

I couldn’t resist the sight of her ass, the dress round her waist. My hand slapped down onto her buttocks, the sound echoing around me. She let out a yelp of surprised delight as I spanked her again.

“Fuck me, Mr Rutherford,” she said. “Fuck your wife.”

I fumbled with my belt, shoving my trousers down as she raised herself up onto all fours, her knees slightly apart. I sought out her pussy with my hand, loving the feeling of her wetness, something I was sure I would always adore. Dipping a finger into her, I leaned down and kissed her ass, my tongue flicking between her cheeks, seeking out her tight hole.

“Fuck me,” she said, her voice louder.

“Language,” I replied, smacking her ass harder than before.

“Fuck me,” she said again.

I spanked her twice more before my patience ran out. Grabbing hold of the shaft of my cock, I slid it straight into her, looking out at the ocean as I buried myself deep inside her. She groaned under me, rocking her hips back against me, her muscles squeezing me in place.

Reaching down, I found her clit, stroking it whilst she continued to push back against me. “I’ve never fucked a married man before,” she said, her voice louder as she moved faster, her breath becoming ragged. I continued to stroke her hardened nub until she groaned, her legs shaking.

“Come for me,” I said. “I fucking love it when you come for me.”

“Oh, God,” she replied. “I’m coming!” Her voice faded away as her pussy contracted round my cock. The moment her climax began, I started thrusting as fast as I could, desperate to come inside her. It took no more than a few seconds, her orgasm still making her body shake as my cock jerked and cum shot inside her, filling her pussy.

I let out a deep moan of satisfaction as I slid slowly back out of her. She moved back onto me, sitting on my lap as I slumped onto the beach. With her settled there, I put my hands on her tummy, smiling happily, watching the moon sparkling on the water in front of us. “I’ve never fucked a married woman before,” I whispered in her ear.

“You have now,” she replied, squeezing my hands. “And hopefully that won’t be the last time.”

“You just try and stop me.”

I fell silent, looking out at the ocean. I’d seen it every day since we arrived but I still wasn’t tired of the view. It was made even more special because I was sharing it with the most important person in the world, the woman who had agreed to be my wife. The tide slowly ebbed away from us, leaving an expanse of unspoilt sand, bright even in the moonlight. We danced again, this time to the music of the waves.
