The Second Husband: A Second Chance With The Wrong Husband by Alex H Singh (11)

Johanna drove at the best speed she could handle. She sped past red lights a couple of times. Getting to pay a fine was better than losing her kids to a clone. Dr. Simmons had really caused hell in her peaceful life. His creations were causing her to experience fear and see blood in its raw form.

She got home to see Brandon and Dominic gaming, playing a football match on Play Station 4. She barged into the house and yelled at the top of her lungs. “What’s the problem, babe?” Brandon asked as he turned to look at the person that had caused him to panic. “Amanda…” she said, trying to catch her breath. “Amanda is a clone,” she finally said. “What? Who’s is Amanda?” Brandon asked facing her in concern. “She is the babysitter that Kat unknowingly got to babysit Challis and Martino.”

“What? Have you tried calling Kat or Nicola?” he asked, dropping the joystick he was using for the game. This was dangerous. His kids were in danger. “We have to hurry, it’s almost 10:30 pm.” They dashed out of the house and got into the car, forgetting to lock the door to the house.

Amanda came out of the bathroom, but the redness in her eyes had disappeared. She shielded her violent nature. She got to the room, but there was no one there. Martino had taken his sister out of the room because he had a strange feeling about Amanda. She called out to him “Martino,” but no one answered. She got suspicious that her cover had been blown since it was silent everywhere except the music in the backyard.

She went back out of the room to search for the kids, but couldn’t find them. She got violent and her eyes turned red again. She screamed for them unconsciously and it thundered above the blaring music. The caterers that heard the scream sent in staff to check out what was going on in the house. The male caterer got inside through the kitchen and climbed up the stairs when he noticed some motions inside the bedroom. As she came out of the corner of the short hallway that led to Johanna’s bedroom, Amanda grabbed him by the neck and asked, “Where are the kids?”

“I don’t know where they are?” he said. He saw her face in the mirror and that had angered her. Getting a negative answer from him prompted Amanda to break his neck. She killed him, drew him into the bathroom and dumped his body the bathtub.

She came out of the bathroom and tried listening for the sound made by the kids through her enhanced hearing abilities, but all to no avail. Martino had seen numerous movies with clones in them, so he knew that they could find anyone around once the person made a sound. He kept mute and held his hands in his sister’s mouth. He couldn’t go out to meet his sister, Nicola or Aunty Kat. He then devised a trap to catch Amanda.

“Hey, Amanda. We are playing hide and seek, try finding us,” Martino shouted from where he was hiding. Amanda was in the kitchen trying to find them when she heard him call. “Yes, Martino, I am over here,” she said as she ran up the stairs, as he got up the stairs, he, with all the strength in him hit her with a baseball bat, which caused her to fall and break her neck in the process. She laid on the ground unconscious. She had tumbled down the staircase.

Nicola stood up from beside James to get her laptop and post some pictures of the day on Facebook. She opened the door and saw the horrific scene at the foot of the stairs. “Ahh!” she screamed aloud. “Someone is dead,” she shouted. The visitors came in and saw the lady lying on the ground unconscious. They panicked and went into a frenzy and the ladies screamed as they ran out of the house. They fled not even wanting to know the cause of the death. Kat ran into the house when she heard Nicola scream.  “Where are the kids?” she asked Nicola.  Nicola was too dumbfounded to reply, she only gestured to the top of the stairs. James ran in and kissed Nicola, “Happy Birthday again, babe,” he said before running out of the house into Frank’s car.

Kat climbed up to the middle of the stairs and called out to the kids who already ran into their parent’s room. Challis could not believe her brother had just hit someone into unconsciousness, but he was a male and he had to defend his family. He had to save his sister. Amanda rose up suddenly from where she laid, stretched her neck and her clone nature was fully activated. “Activated. Mission: Kill Nicola,” she said with a robotic voice. Nicola was startled from the sudden rise of someone she had presumed dead. She fell into a bowl of flour that was placed on the table.

Amanda looked up the stairs and scanned the whole floor, sighting the children crying in their parent’s room. Kat was leaning on the railings of the staircase because she was weak in her legs and couldn’t climb up anymore. Amanda grabbed the railings of the stairs and tore it apart. Kat fell down the stairs into the side table knocking down the lamp. She groaned in pain.

Brandon, Johanna and Dominic rushed into the house on arrival. They shouted for their kids on arrival, but they were too afraid to respond. They knew Amanda was on the loose. Amanda turned to focus on Nicola who was on the ground. Nicola stood to her feet to defend herself. Amanda swung her hand to hit Nicola but she instinctively caught her hand. It was by reflex, and she threw her into the wall. “Whoa!” she said, wondering how on earth she got the strength to have done that. She was shocked at her sudden outburst of strength. Was it just a reflex of protecting herself or there was something more?

Nicola ran over to her Dad and hugged him tightly. “Are you okay?” Brandon asked her, “And where are Martino and Challis?” Brandon asked. Nicola motioned for him to go upstairs before she went over to her mother. Johanna went over to see if Kat was okay. Amanda was pissed and walked over to Nicola; she grabbed her by the neck and threw her into a glass table. The table shattered at the pressure that was exerted by Nicola hitting the table. Johanna screamed at the sight of Nicola bleeding and unconscious. Kat looked over to her side and saw her bleeding too, but couldn’t do anything about it, she was also injured in her leg. Dominic ran over to Nicola and rushed her to safety. Dominic was able to get outside the house before Amanda could see him. He called 911 about what was happening in the house.

Amanda looked over to Kat and Johanna. Kat saw the evil in her eye as she approached them, “Johanna? Let’s go!” they both ran towards the basement and Amanda began chasing them. Her protocols were to destroy Brandon and his family.

Brandon ran up the stairs with all his strength, “Martino?” he called out. He checked their various rooms but couldn’t find them. Then he heard Challis sobbing from within their room. He ran towards the door and found them crying in a corner, glued to each other. He ran over to them, “Hey kids, I’m so sorry we left you guys for so long,” he said before hugging them. “Dad, Amanda is bad,” Challis said as she sobbed to her father. Martino was still holding his baseball bat when he entered. He was holding it in case Amanda eventually came upstairs. “Okay, let’s go downstairs. We are safe now, okay?” he said when he heard the ambulance and police car sounding their sirens. When he got them out of the building, he left them with Dominic and decided to go check on Johanna and her sister. He ran into the house and noticed that the door to the basement was open, so he decided to go down there. He got closer and heard sounds and noises from the basement. “Johanna!” he called out.

Johanna and Kat were cornered at the end of the basement. Amanda rushed over to them and grabbed Johanna by her hair, she shouted in pain as she flung her hands in the air, as she tried to defend herself. But Amanda overpowered her and threw her to the door of the basement. Amanda was going over to attack Kat who already had an injured leg, Johanna stood up with all the strength she had and shouted, “Don’t hurt her.” She ran and jumped on Amanda’s back to bring her down, but was surprised that the girl was stronger, so she didn’t fall to the ground. Amanda moved from side to side, trying to get Johanna off her back. While she tried to get Johanna off her back, she hit her against the locked window, and the old window fell off with its frame. “Get out of here,” Johanna shouted. Kat got out of the window, and saw the key to the locked door, hung on a nail. She jumped over to grab it and opened the door with it.

Johanna was still on Amanda’s back, and Amanda hit her hard against the wall. Her back collided with the extremely hard concrete and she groaned in pain. She then put her legs against the wall and with all the strength she had left pushed herself and Amanda to the opposite wall. They collided with the wall, and Amanda’s head was compressed, her forehead flattened. Her eyes rolled a couple of times and she got on her knees. Johanna got up and ran out to meet Kat through the open door. “How are you feeling?” she asked Kat. She tore a part of her dress to stop the bleeding of Kat’s right leg, she didn’t notice that her right arm bled too.

Amanda got up and waited for a few second while her head, regained its shape and her wounds healed. She moved towards the door and saw that it was locked. The door was made of steel. She punched a couple of times to open. Suddenly, Johanna heard a fight, and then a silence.

Johanna stood up from where she was attending to Kat and waited for Amanda to come through. “Kat, go through that door, it leads to the left wing of the house, outside. Go there and call for help. I will take her on somehow,” Johanna said. “Okay, but be careful,” Kat said as she made it to the door. She opened the door and got out. The door separating Johanna from Amanda flung wide open, but it was Brandon that came through. She rushed over to hug him, “Thank God you came,” she said. “I’m sorry for all this,” Brandon said as he separated from her and turned her around, trying to check if she was hurt. She had bruises all over her back and bled from the side of her head. “I will be fine,” she said. “Where are the kids?” she continued. “They are with Dominic outside, and the paramedics are giving Nicola emergency treatment before she and other injured persons are transported to the hospital.” She stepped forward to kiss him. She then looked towards the door, “And where is Amanda?” she asked. “She is dead,” he said. She looked sad thinking of how Sophia had lost her daughter twice. Brandon carried Johanna and walked back out through the basement door.

Emergency treatment was provided to Nicola and she was put in the ambulance. Dominic wanted to go with her, but Kat said she would go instead.

“I have to be with her. You are injured too,” he said, not bulging.

“Okay,” Kat said and they both entered into the back of the ambulance.

Teeba drove back to the house after she had gone to take care of some personal issues with her family. Brandon brought Johanna outside and saw that the ambulance had sped off.

Dominic looked up from where he was looking at Nicola to Kat and asked, “What happened to Amanda?”

“Brandon killed her, but she is not the only threat here,” said Kat.

Dominic looked at her surprised, “What are you talking about?” he asked her. She, within the twinkle of an eye, rose up and broke his neck in one attempt. She laid him down on the chair he was sitting on, took out a bandage and treated her leg; removing the cloth Johanna had used to tie it. She knocked on the front end of the ambulance, and the paramedic in the passenger’s side looked back and asked, “Where to ma’am?” and Kat breathed a sigh of relief, as it was her workers that drove the ambulance. She thought for a few seconds and then spoke. “Take me to the laboratory. My daughter needs to be treated.”
