Being kidnapped was probably the most cliché thing to happen. Being kidnapped while sleeping is just so predictable. But it happened, and I will forever feel the shame of it.

“Come in here, you rat faced psycho! I think we need to have a little chat.” Nothing, no response, whatsoever. Sighing, I slid down the concrete wall.

When I had woken up, I couldn’t get a visual of the room at all. Not even a little spark of power would come. So I had to explore everything by hand, finding out that I was in a box-like concrete room with no windows. I had felt ridges that indicated a steel door but found no door knob. I also couldn’t tell if there was a light on, and it didn’t really matter anyway. However, there was the mattress that I was currently lying on, and that was about it. Nothing else occupied the room except for me and my humiliation of being taken.

Don’t forget we’re still in heat also.

I groaned and thumped my head against the wall. “Don’t remind me. I really don’t want to think about being burned from the inside at the moment,” I replied out loud.

It’s going to happen whether we want it to or not.

“I know, I know. But it’s like pushing junk under the bed and then forgetting it’s there until something starts stinking and then you actually have to deal with it.”

So in other words, you’re going to push it under the bed until it starts burning.

“Bingo! It’s no use worrying about it now if it’s not bothering anyone.”

I heard her laugh. Whatever you say.

“Besides, we have another problem that we need to be worrying about. For example, our crazy captor.”

Her sigh resonated through my head. There’s nothing we can do without our powers.

“You make it sound like we can’t fight without them. We’ve trained how to fight for years for when the time like this came.”

You’re right. I’m sorry.

“No need to apologize. It does seem kind of bleak.” I chuckled to myself. “But don’t worry. We have enough skill to kick some butt.” This is how it went for hours, or maybe it was minutes. My sense of time was just horrible. Rei and I chatted about everything and nothing, trying to keep our minds off what we really wanted to think about. I was lying flat on my back, staring up at the ceiling or the blackness that was supposed to be the ceiling, anyway.

“I’m so bored.” I huffed.

Then maybe you shouldn’t be kidnapped.

“It’s not like I was asking to be! Going into heat sucks out a lot of strength, and you know that. It’s only natural that I take a little nap.” I heard her scoff.

You were out like a light.

“Fine,” I mumbled. “I was tired and not even the sound of the world ending would have woken me up.”

Yeah, I could tell. I was the one trying to fight them off.

“Okay, yeah, I’m lame.” I sighed and shut my eyes, not like it made any difference. I made my mind absolutely blank when I felt the invasive tendrils poke into my mind.

“What are you hiding, darling?” A man’s voice broke the emptiness of my thoughts.

“Nothing that concerns you. That’s for sure,” I replied coolly.

His chuckle sent chills through me.

“You seem to have grown beautifully, physically, and emotionally. The way you keep up that icy persona to protect what you’re really thinking is just delightful, dear.”

“You seem to still be a creepy, psychopathic werewolf who needs to find a new hobby, preferably one that involves jumping off of a cliff.”

His laughter boomed around me, this one in reality and in my mind. I stayed still as I heard the sound of a door creaking open.

“My, your beauty strikes me every time darling.”

“I’m glad I’m blind so I don’t have to witness the horrors of your face,” I replied dully.

His chuckle was my answer.

“Let’s not be so hostile. I mean, it’s been so long since we’ve been in each other’s arms.”

I stood up without warning. “If you dare touch me, I’ll rip your limbs off and feed them to the dogs.” I snarled and backed away from him. Whatever he had surrounded the room depleted everything in me. I only caught a spark of what would be his aura.

“Now, I don’t think you’re in the position to speak like that to me.” I didn’t see it coming at all as I was gripped by the throat and slammed into the wall. The force cracked the wall, the sound a loud cracking noise.

I didn’t bother to fight back. Why would I do that if it only gave him pleasure?

“Oh my, you’ve gotten quite rebellious since I’ve last seen you. Why’s that?” he said the last part almost to himself.

“Oh, I don’t know. Wait! Maybe it’s because I was away from you. It worked miracles, really.”

The punch hit me from nowhere, and I knew that I was slightly screwed.

—You think?

—While I’m getting my butt whooped, try to see if you can come up with a plan, yeah?”

Just as I had said this to her, I pulled back my head and head-butted him hard. He groaned as his grip loosened, and I took this chance. Slipping out of his grasp, I crouched and kicked his feet from underneath him. I was already at the door before he even hit the ground. Turns out, I remembered it didn’t have a doorknob and being blind, I couldn’t see if there would be anything else that would make the door open from the inside.

“Great, my first obstacle is a door with no doorknob. Why does life suck sometimes?” I kicked it angrily before turning back to face the biggest douche on the planet.

“Well, that was a surprise.” He chuckled to himself, and he must have stood up because I heard the sound of him brushing off his clothes. “You’ve gotten quite strong. But like every wild beast, I will tame you.”

I couldn’t help but scoff. “What is with you and every other male that wants to tame me? Goddess, I don’t want to be tame. I want to be me, and not you nor any other man will change that. I will only be tamed by the one that is mine and no one else. So I would just pack your bags and get out of line.”

He was silent for a long moment, doing what, I have no idea.

“You actually think you have a mate? Where did you get such a ridiculous thought?”

“Well, it’s certainly not you, Leon.”

I was taken by surprise by his snarl and hardly noticed that I was shoved against the wall again.

“You are mine. I raised you to be this way. Therefore, you have an obligation to me.”

“Obligation? Making me into a murdering machine and torturing me into submission is not only enough, but now, I have an obligation to you?” I hadn’t felt such rage in years. Only the man that held me captive could make me this angry.

I reached up and gripped his wrist tightly that was pinning me to the wall. I squeezed it so hard I felt the bones pop beneath my fingers.

“You have no freaking right to say that. I spent years living in hell because of you and not even the pope, president, and the Goddess could make me have any feeling towards you other than hate. So take that bit of info and shove it up your psycho ass.” I tossed his arm away from me while pushing his body with my other elbow. I felt him stumble away while saying nothing. I stood there glaring in his general direction, but he could have moved somewhere else in the room, and I wouldn’t have noticed.

When I sniffed the air a couple of times, however, I could tell that he was only a few feet away from me. I stood tense, waiting for him to lash out like he used to do, but he never did. He obviously expected me to feel this way as he chuckled.

“You’re not the only one to change, love.” I was relieved to hear his footsteps retreat back to the direction of the door. “However, don’t expect your King to come rescue you. He can’t find what he’s looking for if it doesn’t exist.” With those words, he left with the slamming of the door. I hardly heard it, though, as his words echoed through my mind. His message rang loud and clear. If Ryker can’t feel our connection, he’s going to think that I’m dead.

Can I start being pessimistic now? I leaned against the wall and slid down to the floor, the feeling of the familiar despair come back to me.

You can be more negative than an old man.
