“I’m fine, really,” Mia said, laughing at Rhett’s doting attention. He was dabbing at her wounds carefully, his brow furrowed with concern. “Just tell me what all that was about. I knew something strange was going on. What is it? Why is all of this happening?”

“It is a rather long story, but I suppose if you truly are my fated mate, you will be able to understand. You are part of a sacred bloodline, and I am a Dragon shifter. You have blood in your veins that comes from my planet. You are special, and so too will are child be special.”

“I had a feeling…” Mia said, trailing off as she thought about how it had felt when their child was conceived. “So, all of this is really happening, huh?”

Rhett nodded. “It is really happening. And you are really mine.”

Mia gazed up at him, her new understanding of the situation dawning upon her. So, her great-great-grandmother hadn’t been crazy after all. All of this was true. And here was the proof. Her mother was going to have a field day with this.

“Okay, that’s enough. I want to get out of this bathroom now.” Mia laughed and stood, taking Brett's hand and tugging him away from the medicine cabinet. When they were standing in front of each other, a handsome smile creased his face, and Mia’s heart began to pound heavily in her chest. “You know, you are really good-looking.”

“So I’ve heard,” he said, his smile deepening. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

“I’m fine,” Mia said, looking down, her face flushed. In truth, the whole interaction was terrifying, but seeing Brett in his true form, coming in to protect her, had awakened something else within her. Something primitive and raw. She wanted Rhett. She wanted him to be hers for the rest of their lives. She wanted him to claim her forever.

“I love you,” Rhett said, his eyes focused and sincere. “I will always protect you.”

Mia opened and closed her mouth, unable to articulate words to reply. Rhett held her close and kissed her deeply, lifting her carefully and carrying her to the bedroom. He laid her down on the bed tenderly, climbing on top of her and showering gentle kisses all over her face and neck. “No harm will fall upon you as long as I’m around. You and your children will be safe. Our children.”

“You would even take care of Jewel?”

Mia hadn’t considered this yet, but she found herself pleased by the possibility that Brett would be willing to step in and raise her daughter. She hadn’t known what to expect from this man, but he was quickly proving that he was much better than she had ever imagined.

“I will love her like my own and protect her as fiercely as I protect you, and our child as well.”

He continued pressing light, sensual kisses against her skin, and her eyes fluttered closed as she allowed herself to release all worries and tensions under his doting care.

Her body was trembling by the time he lifted his head and fixed an intense stare upon her. How could she ever have doubted this man? She had always, on some level, wanted him. And now he was hers.

She closed her eyes, allowing herself to open up to him fully. He seemed to sense her willingness and let out an appreciative moan, his body suddenly virile and alert.

She sensed the change in him immediately and caught his smoldering gaze. Her heart hammered hard in her chest as she prepared herself to accept his love fully.

A deep heat emanated from her core as Rhett’s lips caressed her skin, and he slowly, gently, stripped her, his movements tender and full of love and concern. He cherished her body, treating her as if she were a delicate, priceless artifact. The way he touched her both warmed her heart and stoked the fire within her loins until it was smoldering.

“I want you,” Rhett said, his eyes intent upon her as he finally finished removing her clothing. “Is that okay for our child?”

“It’s okay,” Mia said softly.

Rhett grinned, and Mia allowed herself to scan his beautiful, chiseled body. They didn’t make men this good-looking on Earth. Why hadn’t she suspected him of being an alien shapeshifter sooner?

He climbed over her, the muscles in his abdomen rippling as he carefully pressed the urgency of his member against her. She accepted him readily, her body aching to feel him again. She had never had a better lover, and she trembled, anticipation causing her to draw shuddering breaths.

Rhett tightened his grip around her and she closed her eyes, swallowing hard as desire consumed her. “And I love you,” Rhett said, closing his eyes. “We will conquer the world together, you know.”

Mia nodded sleepily, her eyes fluttering closed. She was suddenly exhausted. “Mm.”

She fell asleep like this, holding the man she loved close, comforted by the knowledge that all this time she had been right all along. Everything happened for a reason, and now, she had finally found hers.
