Epilogue
Luke
Two years later
It’s been two years since we said “I do”, and it’s been the happiest of my life. I did end up resigning from the police force, and it was the best decision I have ever made. Our baby boy was born in August the next year. The labor and delivery were rough on both of them, but they both came out on the other side healthy. Zane Michael Davis was three weeks early and tiny, weighing in at five pounds even. Whisper is such an amazing mother, just as I knew she would be.
I’m sitting in the rocking chair in Zane’s room when I hear the front door open. I smile to myself as my wife comes walking in the door.
“Well hey, babe, how was work,” I ask her as she comes into our son’s room.
“Ugh long. I had to fire another waitress for stealing tips off the other waitress’ tables. What is wrong with people these days,” she asks as she leans down to give me a kiss, then to kiss our son’s head.
I am doing what I said I would do. Even though neither of us has to work, Whisper decided she wanted to work for a while, so I let her. I stay home with Zane while she goes to work every day.
“You should put him down for his nap, I have some exciting news to share with you,” she says with a wink as I get up to put our son in his bed. I walk quietly out of the room and crack the door in case he wakes up.
I come into the living room and sit down next to my wife. Even after two years, I never tire of calling her my wife.
“What’s up baby girl,” I ask her.
“Well, you know how we have decided we wanted to try for another baby,” she says with a smile.
Nodding, “yes…” I trail off, wondering where she is going with this.
“Well, I haven’t been feeling well so I went to my OB,” she starts.
“Okay, and what did she say,” I ask getting antsy.
“Well, we are definitely having another baby,” she says.
She barely gets the words out before I’m pulling her into my arms and kissing her roughly. I can’t believe I get to be a dad again. I’ve always wanted more kids, but even if we only ever had Zane, I would’ve been happy.
Giggling she keeps going, “well there’s a bit more I need to tell you,” she says.
I sit back down and pull her onto my lap. “Is everything okay with you and the baby,” I ask.
“Babies,” she says looking at me with happiness in her eyes.
“What do you mean babies,” I ask confused.
“Luke, we are having twins,” she says on a giggle.
I can feel the blood drain from my face. “Twins,” I mumble. I sit there for a few more moments and once I fully process I look at her. “Well, I guess I got you good didn’t I,” I wink at her.
She giggles more. “Yeah, I guess you did,” she laughs.
“You know what they say about twins right,” I ask. She shakes her head so I continue. “Double trouble,” I chuckle.
“Yes, but also remember, where there’s double the trouble, there’s also double the fun. Or a guess triple the fun since we have Zane too,” she giggles.
Five years later
Luke
It’s hard to believe it’s been six years since I met and married the love of my life. Within the last five years, we’ve had four more children on top of the one we already had. Now, we have Zane who is five almost six, Delilah and Delia who are almost three, and the newest set of twins, Xavier and Xander who are getting ready to turn one.
My life is so full and at thirty-eight, I can’t imagine my life any other way. Whisper is now twenty-four and thriving as the manager of her friend Lilly's restaurant. Who knew that when they met at the ball six years ago that she would end up becoming lifelong friends and co-workers. Whisper loves what she does and she’s so good at it. The employees love her and are all a part of our family.
Who knew that a modern-day matchmaking service could really find you everything you could ever want in life?
