Perfectly Wrapped (A Steele Christmas Novella Book 2) by C.M. Steele (6)

Chapter 7

Rob

My alarm goes off, making me dart up, nearly rolling Rebecca onto the floor. Shit. She doesn’t wake up. Instead, she just moans and rolls onto her stomach. I hurry up and get dressed. As soon as I’m ready, I wake up Rebecca. “Babe, sorry, but I’ve got to take my parents to the airport. I’ll be back in a few hours. Rest. When I come back, I’m going to worship you all over again after I bring you some food.” I kiss her lips, and she moans, smiling up at me.

I drive to my parents’ house, and they are there with their bags packed. “You are smiling, Robert,” my mother accuses before hugging me tightly.

“Sorry, I didn’t know it’s a crime.” I can’t stop myself from wearing a super cheesy motherfucking grin on my face. Not only did I get laid for the first time, but I met the mother of my children, and I filled her with my seed while stealing her virginity.

My dad claps my back in a half hug, and he scoffs, “Ha, boy. You know damn well you don’t smile. Have you finally met someone?”

“I have,” I admit proudly.

“Are we going to meet him or her soon?” I flinch back for a second when my mom drops that little tidbit.

“Him? You think I’m gay?” I never thought I gave off that impression. Many times, I would mention meeting the right girl.

“Well, we didn’t know. You never brought anyone over ever. So we figured well, maybe you were afraid.” I suppose that’s possible for a lot of other people, but that’s not me. I love sweet little pussy. More importantly, only Rebecca’s sweet little pussy.

“No, I wasn’t afraid. I’ll bring her around the second you get back. By then I may have a ring on her finger.” Their eyes widen, and the mouths fall open. “I’m just saying. I just know she’s the one.”

“Well what do you have there?” my father asks, pointing to the box under my arm.

“It’s mom’s present,” I say. I gave my dad his a few days ago. It was a new engine for the 1946 Buick he’s rebuilding. He can’t wait until the weather improves to install it. Right now, it’s stored in one of James’s storage buildings.

“Ooh, ooh, give me.” She holds the present while my dad goes around checking all the electricity. “I feel like this is too pretty to open.”

“Thanks.”

“You wrapped this!” she exclaims, examining the package then looking at me in amazement.

I laughed hard at that one, but then I answered with all seriousness, “Goodness, no, but your future daughter did.”

“Ooh, I can’t wait to meet her,” she squeals, hugging the gift.

“Sweetheart, can we open that now before we get in the car? We’re going to be late.”

“Sure. Sorry.” She pulls the ribbon off carefully, trying to gingerly open the wrappings without ruining it. I laugh, but I can’t wait to tell Rebecca about it. When she lifts open the box, she sees the matching blue hat, gloves, and scarf. “I love these. You picked my favorite color. Did she help you pick these, too?”

“No, I thought they were very Parisian and would look great while you traveled.”

“They are perfect.” She puts them on, and we lock up, leaving the box with the wrappings on the table. The drive to the airport is all about my girl. I don’t have enough details to tell them, but I’m pleased that they aren’t trying to dissuade me from her. I guess they’re counting their blessings that I found someone.

We hug like crazy, and they promise to call when they can. I laugh because all I need to know is that they are safe and having a great time. All I can think about is getting to the condo and crawling back into bed with my woman and claiming her all over again.

On my way back, I stop at Einstein’s and pick up some bagels and coffee. I smile as I enter the building and stroll to the elevators.

“Sir,” Jeff, the front desk manager calls me, running from around his desk.

I mentally roll my eyes at him. I don’t want to be bothered because I have to go see my girl, but he looks insistent. “What’s wrong, Jeff?”

“Um, I needed to inform you that the young lady that was here left this morning,” he stammers out, feeling my tension radiate off me.

“What?!” I bark out. Almost fucking losing it. I take a breath and try to act like a civilized human. Once I’m calm enough, I ask, “Did she say anything?”

“Nothing except that she had to go home and left you a note.”

“Thanks,” I muttered, going to the elevator sullen. My joy has been ripped from my soul. Damn, it’s not about missing out on getting her under me. It’s so much more. I feel like she kicked me in the balls by cutting out.

Once I’m upstairs, I set down the breakfast on the entrance table and go into the house on the hunt for the note. I’m hoping she left her number. “There’s a good reason for her to leave, and it’s not permanent,” I chant, but something in me doesn’t believe the lie I’m telling myself.

On the nightstand is a small piece of paper. Sorry, Rob. Last night was out of character and one of the most amazing nights ever, but nothing that good can be real. It was just lust. Goodbye, Rebecca.

I think I fucking died inside. Sitting on the bed, I take deep breaths, but that only lets me take in her scent that seems to have engulfed the room. I drop my body sideways onto the mattress, my face hitting her pillow. I take in every drop of her smell until I pass out.

I wake up, feeling empty inside. I look around and see that the sun’s already setting. I can’t will myself to even get up, so I kick off my shoes and check my phone for any emails from her. Nothing. More work to do, but nothing from Rebecca. My only reason to be awake, so I fight to fall back asleep. It doesn’t come, but an idea does hit me. “I could go to her job,” I shout, sitting upright in bed.

Yes, that’s what I’m going to do. I get my ass up and go to the store. Jerkwad isn’t in there, but I look around to see if Rebecca is anywhere in sight. The woman that let me out yesterday came up to me. “Hello, sir, can I help you?”

“I’m looking for Rebecca.”

“Oh, I’m sorry, but she quit this morning. Something about moving back home.” I release a loud sigh, then walk out. What the fuck am I going to do? I need to find her. I get that she’s scared. Fuck, it’s scary to me, and I’m sure of what I want. Damn, I pushed her too fast. We just met, and I claimed her virginity in a matter of seconds after I got her inside my condo.
