His Forbidden Mate (Deliverance Pack Book 1) by Matilda Janes (5)

Chapter Five

Hannah burrowed deeper under the covers, exhaustion and contentment washing over her before her eyes flashed open. It was unnaturally quiet, and she became acutely aware she was alone in the room. She flopped over on to her back, and she sighed.

Maybe he’s in the bathroom. When it became obvious he wasn’t, she got up and searched for a note, all the while hoping Adam was going to walk through the door at any moment. Maybe he’s gone to get us breakfast, but she doubted it as it neared an hour and still no sign of him.

Hannah swallowed hard and blinked back tears. Oh my God, I’m such an idiot! Her gut churned as memories assailed her. She’d been played. They hadn’t had sex, but apparently, he’d gotten what he wanted and left. A huge weight sank in her chest as shame and embarrassment flooded her, which just made her angry. She was pretty sure she was out of a job, and how in the hell was she going to get home? She wasn’t even sure where she was, and she didn’t have her wallet, which meant even if she called, her mom couldn’t help her for at least a day because she was vacationing. Hannah was screwed.

She jumped out of bed, her heart racing as she searched for her clothes. She needed to get out of here. She couldn’t bear to be in this room another minute. Dressing quickly, she told herself she deserved this for being so stupid in the first place. She angrily stomped towards the door and whipped it open only to come face to face with Adam.

“What’s wrong? What happened?” Adam dropped the bags he carried and pulled her into his side. He scanned the room before he searched her face.

She blinked up at him, unsure what to think. “I—” She swallowed. “I thought you left.”

Realization dawned, and his face fell. “Jesus, Hannah. You thought I fucking left you here?” Then his blue eyes became angry before they shifted yellow. “You were just going to leave by yourself? Hannah, what were you thinking? Where were you going to go?” His voice was layered with his wolf.

“I don’t know? I didn’t know what I was doing? I thought you left,” she finished quietly and sniffled, now even more embarrassed.

His expression softened, and his eyes flashed back to blue. “I’m sorry, Hannah. This is my fault. I should have left you a note. I didn’t think you’d think I’d leave you, but that’s my fault. I’ll earn your trust. But the thought of you out there alone scared the crap out of me, Hannah. Please don’t just take off. Anyone could grab you.”

“Like you?”

“Yeah, like me, except I don’t want to hurt you. Come on, let me show you what I bought and then we’ll get on the road, okay?” His smile was sad, and Hannah was afraid she’d disappointed him, but she couldn’t help it. He was right—she didn’t trust him yet.

He opened the bag for the twenty-four-hour pharmacy and pulled out a three pack of panties. “I had to guess your size, sorry. Girl sizes make no sense.” He shook his head and cleared his throat before he pulled out two wads of cloth, which she happily discovered were t-shirt dresses. “Sorry, there wasn’t much to choose from. They didn’t have jeans or anything like that. It was either these or these little strappy things I didn’t think you’d like. I got you a t-shirt to sleep in, and this travel bag has a toothbrush and comb.”

Hannah nodded and hugged her clothes and travel bag. “Thank you! These are perfect,” she told him sincerely. She was happy to be out of her uniform and brush her teeth.

He smiled widely, and his face lit up. “And … breakfast is served.” He opened the next bag with a flourish.

He handed her a bottle of orange juice and her favorite package of donuts. She stared down at the little five pack, unsure how to get off of this emotional rollercoaster. It was such a small thing really, him remembering her favorite donuts, but he’d remembered.

Hannah stared out the window and watched the outside world pass by as she played with the hem of her skirt. She was thankful to be out of her work clothes, but she shifted, uncomfortable in her seat. They’d been driving for hours, and she was getting tired of sitting.

Adam reached over and threaded his fingers through hers. “Everything’s going to be okay.”

“Will it?” She didn’t want to doubt him, but he was driving her halfway across the country.

His jaw tensed before he glanced at her. “I don’t know what’s going to happen. But I’m going to do everything in my power to keep you safe. I’m sorry for even putting you in this fucked up situation. I’m sorry this is happening.”

His words hit her like a slap in the face and she tried to pull her hand away, but he wouldn’t let her go.

“What’s wrong?”

“Are you sorry your wolf—” She swallowed. It had never occurred to her that this was against Adam’s will. “Are you sorry that he chose me?”

“Gods no! Hannah, I’ve missed you so much it hurt. When I walked in that diner and realized you were mine, I've never been so happy or so scared in my entire life. I'm only sorry that I've put you in my father’s crosshairs. You’re the best thing that has ever fucking happened to me.” He turned his attention back to the road, his expression defeated.I just don't want you to hate me more than you already do.”

“I don't hate you Adam. I've never hated you, but I think it will take some time for that old hurt to go away.”

Adam nodded. “I hope you’ll give me a chance to prove myself worthy.” He lifted her hand to his lips. Hannah smiled when he kissed her but covered her mouth with her other hand when she couldn’t contain her yawn.

“How much farther?” She was tired, and her rear was growing numb.

“We’ll stop at the next motel and then be in Deliverance territory by tomorrow afternoon.”

The motel was almost identical to the last and the bed was nothing special, but Hannah didn’t care. After two days in the car Hannah was thankful to be horizontal. She threw herself down on the bed and stretched and twisted, and the room filled with her back cracking. She flipped on her other side and twisted with the same results.

“Did you hear that?” Hannah exclaimed happily.

Adam snorted and grinned before he flopped down on his back beside her. “I think the guests next door heard you. Jesus, Hannah. I can’t believe you still crack like that.”

Hannah giggled and breathed deep before letting out a contented sigh. She reached out to touch his arm, and her breath caught in her throat when Adam reared up and over her.

“My Hannah.” He growled and leaned down. He closed his eyes and breathed her in before he meshed his lips against hers. Hannah opened for him, meeting his thrusts with her own. Desperate for more, Hannah grabbed at his arms and pulled Adam so his weight was on top of her. When he opened his eyes, yellow stared back at her.

“I’m nervous.”

“I am, too, but … my wolf’s not. He’s—he’s very eager.”

Hannah liked that Adam was nervous, though it unnerved her that he spoke of his wolf wanting her. He helped her sit up and pull her dress over her head. Even though he’d already seen her naked, she was still shy when he reached around and unhooked her bra. Her breasts were bared to him, and his eyes dilated as his yellow gaze lowered.

His growl turned suspiciously purr like. “You’re so beautiful.” Adam reached out and gently cupped her breasts. His thumbs circled her already pebbled nipples, and waves of pleasure flowed through her. She loved to watch him touch her. His tan skin was such a dark contrast to hers. He lowered his head and laved her nipple before gently closing his teeth around it, sending bursts of pleasure through her.

“So are you,” she gasped out.

He released her nipple and lifted his head, kissing her long and hard. Without breaking his kiss, he maneuvered above her until she lay back against the pillow, and she could feel how big and hard he was against her. She loved how he could be so big and strong and so gentle at the same time.

“Are you sure about this, Hannah? I want you to be sure.” He pushed up from her.

It was true that a dingy motel room wasn’t how she imagined her first time, but it didn’t matter if it was with him. “I’m sure, Adam. I’m taking your virginity, too,” she reminded him.

“Yes, you are.” He grinned, flexing his hips he pressed and rubbed his hard cock against her panty covered pussy, right where she ached.

Hannah gasped, her insides quivering as pure lust pulsed through her. She lifted her hips and arched, needing more contact, more pressure, more him.
