Visionary Investigator (Paranormal INC Book 1) by Yumoyori Wilson (20)

Chapter Nineteen

AGENT CHRISTIAN ROSS:

I relaxed on the sofa; the world spun in the darkness.

"You shouldn't have downed that bottle of 65% alcohol."

My demon wasn't helping me. Nope, just acting like Captain Obvious as usual.

If Michelangelo had a drop of that cherry tasting goodness we'd all be doomed.

"Hmph. You’re the one who's dealing with consequences and his name is Michael, not Michelangelo."

I huffed. Same shit.

I heard the door open; the click of heels hit the wood floor, making me aware of someone entering the living room of Scar's apartment.

Thanks to Cece's magic, she was knocked out before she could continue to ravish me. I totally wished Lizard breath stayed in his fucking sewer, so I could have enjoyed Scar's hot body pressed against me as she bit at my neck.

Drunk Scar would have been fun for all of us. I don't know how we all got into this, but I was loving every bit of it and enjoying the new addition to the team, for many reasons.

"Christian. Drink this."

I opened my eyes; the world still spun. It took a few attempts before I was able to lift my head to see a wobbly image of Cece.

"Chescatini. I don't need your concoction of drugs. I'm on cloud ninety-nine." I slurred; my head dropped back onto the couch.

"Drunk you are more dangerous than Michael. At least he can function to an extent." She mumbled. I chuckled.

"Admit it. I have swag. I'm just gonna chill here."

Cece sighed.

"Cyrus."

My demon spirit nudged me aside in my mind, taking control of my body. I could still see what was going on, but I didn't care. I felt like a rebel – loving the satisfaction of not follow orders and simply enjoying the weird sensation of spinning. Who knew spinning could be relaxing?

"He can't handle alcohol. Sorry, Queen." Cyrus apologized.

"I don't blame him. He's easier to deal with than Michael getting drunk. I don't need a four-person orgy happening. You know his gift of manipulating feelings can be a blessing in the bedroom. Just not in public." Cece commented as Cyrus reached out for the drink that rested on the table.

"True. Anyways, Scarlet, Michael and Jaxson are in her room. Junho’s knocked out in the other room. Ethan went back to the office to do some more searching." Cyrus reported, drinking the concoction Cece made. The bitter taste was enough to snap me out of my stupor.

Cyrus retreated, giving me control again. It took me a moment to gather my bearings, feeling a little disorientated from the exchange. I forgot how tiring it was to switch with your spirit.

"Sorry about that." I apologize; my mind felt clearer. Whatever was in that drink could cure a hangover in seconds.

"No worries." Cece winked, making her way to sit on the two-seater on my left. I sat in the same spot Scar sat before our night time adventures.

I decided to get straight to business. Now that the alcohol was out of my system, I needed to make sure the plan was clear.

"Are you sure Lizard breath is gonna lead us to Xerxes?" I questioned, eyeing Cece who had her legs crossed as she relaxed.

"Ninety-five percent sure. He's looking for the stone Saikikku spoke of in Scar's vision. Xerxes wants it for power or whatever it can do. Ethan’s researching about the stone’s origin and if it's connected to Realm Three...which I think it is, but I’d rather have the facts to show Kendrick and the higher-ups. If that stone gets into Xerxes' hands, we're gonna be in trouble. They're already freaking out now that Naomi’s body was discovered."

I frowned, feeling sorry for the female shifter. She was a tiger shifter – a car crashed into a light pole and fell on top of her. No shifter could heal from being squished. I just prayed to the gods her death was quick and not lingering. The police investigated the cause of the crash, but we all knew Xerxes was behind it once again – no evidence pointing to him. I wish one of his lackeys would slip up. We were just hoping Lizard breath would be the first.

"Who remains on the list?" I questioned.

"Scarlet, Amelia Ray and Rebecca." Cece replied. I groaned.

"Rebecca? How the fuck did she get on that list? Did she bribe the higher-ups to make her as special as being an Elemental potential?"

I hated that woman with passion. She'd been a pain in the ass for us when she dated Jaxson. I'd never seen him so distraught in all my years of knowing him.

I couldn't understand how Scar's ex fell head over heels with her when she was fucking four other guys behind his back. I guess he'll never know.

"Have no idea. That hoe is merely a nuisance and will be a distraction anyways. I'm only concerned with Scarlet right now. I've contacted agents associated with both of them. They'll be doubling their security team and having a watchful eye twenty-four seven. Vinzent will be helping us with watching Scarlet." Cece explained.

"Shit, Vinzent’s getting involved."

Vinzent was one of the strongest shifters at PINC, outranking myself, Junho and Jaxson. He wasn't required to participate in cases unless whatever was brewing involved the other realms.

"Didn't Junho say Marcus is going to pass by soon?"

"Yup. He should be here sometime next week. Maybe we’ll be done solving this case." Cece replied.

"I hope so. Are you sure Scarlet and the others are going to be okay to go out tomorrow? They're gonna be hungover with all the alcohol they consumed." It was never a good idea to go in the field with a hangover, especially Michael. He'd be a pain in the ass.

"Oh, don't worry. The spell I cast on them will clear up their heads. They'll feel rejuvenated when they wake up. I even made sure they remember everything that happened last night."

"You didn't. Everything?"

"Everything. Ethan showed me the picture of Michael and Jaxson kissing while Scarlet watched."

"They kissed!" I knew Michael and Jaxson didn't care about gender, but their spirits are like cats and dogs. They hated each other with a passion.

"Yup. I got a copy of the evidence, just in case Michael or I need to blackmail." She winked.

"You're diabolical." I whispered under my breath.

"I know. Nothing new." She shrugged, inspecting her nails.

"And why does Michael get dibs for blackmail?"

"Because I owe his angel for doing something for me. At least with this picture he can just harass Jaxson's demon all he wants."

"You know, you're the reason they fight."

"Hmph. They've hated each other since y'all met. I just added more gasoline."

"You shouldn't be proud of that."

"Well, it's not in my demon nature to be kind all the time you know. You need some mischief to balance things out." She smiled wickedly at me.

"Remind me not to piss you off." I mumbled, shaking my head.

She rose to her feet.

"Anyways, rest up. I'm gonna go comfort Vinnie. He doesn't get enough me time, and he's upset which is a pain in the ass for me."

I smiled. As much as she complained she was head over heels with the six-foot, seven-inch beast.

"Have fun."

"Oh, I will. Be careful and call me if you need anything or if Scar passes out again."

"Got it." I nodded, watching her walk into a portal – disappearing out of sight.

I sighed, feeling exhausted. I laid down on the three-seat sofa, stretching my legs out as I relaxed.

"Meow."

I opened my eye to see the cat on the table staring at me.

"You know, you should tell her sooner or later. It would kind of help her ease into our world if she is the Elemental."

"Meow Meow." He jumped off the table, jumping onto my sofa, playfully hitting my legs.

"Fine, fine. Don't inform Scar of your familiar secret, until you feel like sharing." I mumbled.

"You should watch your tone."

I rolled my eyes and closed them. I felt Moonlight walk onto my stomach, deciding to sleep on me. Great.

"Payback for your disrespect."

I ignored him; my conscious faded as I relaxed. I had to admit, the cat's low purrs were soothing.

The wheels are beginning to turn. Only a matter of time.
